  1. Re:The four options... on Governing the Internet Report Released · · Score: 1

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the UN today is the excact same type of government that the USA's first government was based on, the Artical's of Confederation (and perpetual Union) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Articles_of_Confedera tion .

To give an idea to those non-Americans out there how that government worked out, well every state we had made their own form of currency, set up their own taxes, and no one donated any military to the national government, keeping their state military's for themselves except very small forces sent. Sound familiar? It should, thats excactly where the UN is today, small peacekeeping forces, but nearly no power, a non-global economy (thus the UN cannot directly impact the global economy or regulate it as easily), and each country certainly has different tariffs.

If the UN is going to last, they'll need to set up a system that is APPROVED by the world where they are given the power to govern us all, with far more power than they already have. The irony of this, is that they have no way to take that power since each country has to decide to give it to them.

There's a reason the Articles of Confederation only lasted a few years before America's founding fathers decided to change things up, and thats because we never would have lasted.

I fail to see what spam has anything to do with Iraq and Kyoto. I mean I understand Iraq and Kyoto, but those are things related to our government, while spam is something done by sleezy money-making entrepreuers, and heavily effects everyone in the USA and worldwide. It's not just something that's "annoying" it's also a major problem economically. Think what it costs in time to actually send all those spam emails, lost time in productivity when people just delete spam, it really adds up. I'm sorry but I don't undersand the relationship at all.

There's two different types of republicans. There are the big corporate buffoons, like the ones in the White House, then there are the more independant ones. Don't confuse or label Bush as a representative for the whole party.

Another unknown story in American history is when we invaded Canada up by the Maine border (I think it was) at the end of the Revolutionary war. We (I'm American) actually got beaten back pretty badly, it was just some stupid land grab by a foolish leader as I remember, but thats certainly not taught in American schools :P

Its pretty terrifying, and I often wonder if there weren't any massacre's that happened here in the USA or done by the USA that arn't written in our textbooks so therefore no one knows really much about them (as I'm sure there are).

I agree with your statement about guns not making a city secure, but your rational is wrong. I lived in the UK for a couple years, and I sure as hell didn't feel comfortable walking around by myself past 9 or 10 at night because 'townies' would come and kick my ass, mug me, and knife me if I didn't concent to a mugging.

It completely depends on what sorta town your live in and the sort of people that are there. Here in a small college town, and nearby in the city of Spokane (middle/big city) I feel pretty damn safe walking around at midnight, but only in certain parts of town.
