I thought the same way until I looked at the Android scene. For some devices, upgrading to the latest OS is just not possible even though the device is less than 1 year old.
Any chance that they will fix the Emperor's "slugs"? I find that to be the most irritating thing in the movies and really hurt the enjoyment. I can even stand Greedo and Jar Jar.
'The "Emperor's slugs," also called the "Emperor's black spot," refers to a solid black area on the edge of Emperor Palpatine's hood in Return of the Jedi. The dark spot is actually a bit of hand-drawn animation. Although no definitive answer exists, Pablo Hidalgo learned from someone at LFL that the spot was likely added because the "particular low angle revealed a rather strange fold in the Emperor's temple that drew attention away from his eyes."[98]' http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Palpatine
But I believe most people shouldn't need to write raw HTML. Things like blog and CMS are are invented for the masses who don't want to invest the time needed to do HTML properly.
With the growth in popularity of things "Web 2.0" things like YouTube, flickr, wiki, blogs etc, I don't think people really need to write raw HTML to share their content anymore. I think those who still write raw HTML (i.e. those who do it professionally) have no excuse not to do it properly. It's not that hard after all.
Contactless smart cards (called Octopus, which is actually Sony FeliCa) are widely used in Hong Kong for at least five years. It's still not cracked yet. I wonder where all this security concerns come from? Am I missing something?
Trademarking a common word is not a problem. It protects a name in a namespace. e.g. No one else can use the name Apple to sell computers and operating systems.
Like everyone else, I switched to Google when it was clearly the best search engine. But Yahoo! is showing promising improvements these days that I switched back a while ago.
I have always used Safari's tab to open the Google results in new tabs then view them one by one. However since recent versions of Safari, opening Google links in new tab no longer work! This is a show-stopper for me.
Then I tried Yahoo!. Not surprisingly I can open the results in new tabs again. Also Yahoo!'s results are now actually better than Google's most of the time.
All these plus the new, cleaner Yahoo! Search web site and Yahoo! services integration, I switched back to Yahoo! and http://search.yahoo.com/ is now my home page.

"MS tells BetaNews it is only evaluating the move while also acknowledging WinFS is still years off."
Isn't Longhorn (with WinFS) supposed to ship next year or so? With WinFS still years off, does it means that Longhorn (and WinFS) is still in vaporware status?
From TFA: "Terra Soft has created a hybrid Yellow Dog Linux v4.0.1 #1 Install CD that incorporates the changes required to install to an iPod or FireWire drive from the graphical installer. This hybrid is immediately available through YDL.net Enhanced accounts at www.ydl.net."
Now I can play around with Linux on PPC without touching my current setup! Great!
Now the problem becomes: how long before the new ISOs become available to the public?
My library has around 1500 songs. I used to play them all shuffled. After some time I find I listen to some songs more often, especially on the iPod. Possibly bad random algorithm, possibly bad human brain. Now I'm using a bunch of smart playlists to some what workaround this problem.
1. Create smart playlists of "100 most played songs", "100 least played songs", "100 least recently played songs", and "songs added in the last 3 months".
2. Create another smart playlist that includes all songs from the above playlists (union the above lists). Let's name this "Special".
3. Create a smart playlist that is "100 most recently played songs".
4. Create a smart playlist that are songs in "Special" but not in the "100 most recently played songs" ("Special" minus "100 most recent").
Now use Party Shuffle or your iPod to play the playlist created in step 4 and enjoy. They are either new songs, your favorites, or long lost gems. Plus they are not played in the last few hours.
Make sure you check "Live Update". Change the conditions to suit your needs.
This this mean we're going to see Palm-compatible Linux-based PDA? Are we going to see the combination of the Palm software library and the power of Linux?

Agreed. Please mod grand-parent up. ;-)

If they enlarge the S, I, N, E, P keys maybe I'll get half less spam.
However, everyone knows 1280x768 on 10.6" is uncomfortable. Current OS'es are just not designed to be used in such a high pixel density.
While high-res displays are great, I think the OS should be updated first.

Right. Podcasts were synced to my 3G and a Podcast playlist was automatically added. The podcasts from iTMS also correctly have a genre of "Podcast".
I say this two years old baby is still supported well.
Patent is patent, trademark is trademark.

Don't worry, that's just because Longhorn will be released as "Windows XP Service Pack 3".

Just tried the script. It's almost like the real thing, but for some reason the movie is smaller than playing full screen with QuickTime Pro.
I'd suggest using any free third party QuickTIme substitute which supports full screen playing instead.
Take a look at http://www.versiontracker.com/
It doesn't look like walking, more like "skating".
Pay a little attention to the video and you'd see that it never lifted its legs.
It looks cool, but I think it's just a fancy wheeled vehicle.

I was think about backing away form /. ...
So they are ditching the name "Navigator" too?
All successful Apple products must be first bashed by Slashdotters, right? :)

You think brushed metal is bad and inconsistent? Take a look at our new random UI widget overlords.
Just tried a few Chinese characters but there's no suggestions given. Looks like Chinese is not supported. (Or at least here with Safari)

Should be very attractive if done nicely.
Sorry, didn't RTFA.
The answer is in the article. RTFA if you what to know it.
Are you sure about this? Can anyone confirm or deny?
If what you said is true, what is that "B5 size" that I have been hearing for a long time?
