And then Apple would have to cut jobs, they'd start losing money as 99% of PC manufacturers bundle MS Windows with their machines (cause it's cheaper), then Apple would close and we'd all have no support for our iPods anymore. Then all the 3rd party companies making hardware and software for iPods/Apples would also have to move on and possible most of them couldn't survive either.
So hacking OSX and "freeing" it, is stupid as it would negativly impact a lot of people and companies.
Long and short of it is that piracy is a sucky thing.
Thats a good question.. maybe if you get an answer you could also ask why we can't get an graphics card for the IEC bus on my Commodore 64 as well ?
No seriously I'd like to know why we can't just stick graphics cards on every bus type out there, I'm sure I heard something about bus speeds, latency and stupidity course but hey maybe there is a good reason ?;-)
Just what I want, some 14 year old nerd turning the world into grey goo because he was playing with open source nanotechnology and thought he could make a great PacMan clone...
Just because you've bought your shiny new iPod doesn't mean you are going to buy more music.. most people will want to transfer their existing CD's onto it first and listen to them, then when a new CD comes out they might go and buy it.

You might need to find a widget that's useful to you is all.. I use the word clocks all the time just because my family is scattered about the globe (got 6 in a row at the press of F12)and I need to know when is good/bad time to call them. Also find the flight tracker useful (cause I travel), and the calcutor (cause my math sucks:-)
It's exactly whats going to happen, the marketing guys will look through the faces and choose someone aesthetically pleasing... your average nerd is usually not such a person (myself excluded of course:-)
Go have a chat with your local EMC, HDS, HP or IBM rep.. this is bread and butter stuff for them and they'll give you heaps of whitepapers.
Personally I think you'd be insane to put it all in as one volume and then sharing it to multiple computers... but I'm sure you've a valid reason for doing it.. right ?
Software you might want to look at :
Transoft FibreNet (gobbled up by HP, may still exist as one of their products) Tivoli SANergy (not bad actually)
ummm... while I applaud the ingenuity in getting this to work, I feel they've missed the point by, oh, about 2 miles!
The whole thing about the PSP is that it's portable.. you know you can leave you house with it, play games and watch movies on the train that sort of thing. I know that's what I do with mine... or is it me thats weird ?!?!?!
It's more about the fact that people know it's done in clay (or whatever they are made of), people know it's taken a huge amount of effort, they know a huge amount of skill is required, and they'll go see it mainly to see what the mad buggers have spent a chunk of their lives on.
These days the allure of CGI has worn thin mainly because your average home PC can crank results very similar, sometimes a CGI film will be released straight to DVD without ever making it to the big screen, it's just become to "normal". Yes you could do your own stop-motion film but it's going to take you a long time, and 99.99% of people would give up after an afternoon.
Hmm... so how is what HBO are doing any different from say you preventing a burgular from nicking yout television ?
HBO are basically going "Hey! People are stealing our stuff!", and then setting about making sure that what they steal becomes as junky as possible. They could of course just send the lawyers and/or police around...
If you are suggesting that the Swedish have automatic right to view any program in the world free of charge then you are a moronic twat!
If the show has been broadcast in Sweden then yes, they might very well be legally entitled to distribute and download it within Sweden (depends on their law, whether that is moral is a different question), but to say that a show that was aired on cable in the US aimed at the US market (ie. the cable company has paid HBO the money so that they can in turn show it to their subscribers) can then be freely downloaded by a Swede is stupid... even American law would be able to grasp that.
Now we're going to have all sorts of new weirdos landing in New Zealand, the LoTR bunch are strange enough, but now we're going to have fat nerdy game players coming here as well ?!?!
You might need to ask the distributors to split their ISO images up into 16k chunks to make things a bit easier for you mind, then it would just be the simple task of concatenating them all together at the end;-)
What do you mean sat on the wayside ? It's been out and about for donkeys years, I've been involved in storage for 9 years and it pre-dates me by a LOOOONG time.
What's the distinction between what he is talking about and something like VMWARE ESX ?

So you've been outlived ? Doesn't that mean you're a corpse ? And if you're posting on slashdot then you must be a ZOMBIE!! That damn comet dust!!!!
So have any of the people who come into contact with the "space dust" started getting an appetite for brains ?
Only if you get it in sidewise .. and have the FM transmitter working as well

Would you be the slaughterhouse working brave enough to step into the enclosure of a supercow ? ;-)
Why yes I have .. hundreds of times ... how many times have you not ?
Well it might work, but if you are and a space craft with a hole in it would you be prepared to wait 30 years fot the lichen to grow over the gap ? :-)

Wow! Someone woke up bed tempered this morning!
Yes the guys advise might be a little suspect, but was there any reason to dig his eyes out with a spoon ?
There is all this media hype about the "Deadly Bird Flu!", how many people have actually died of it ?
.. (please correct me here my math REALLY sucks ) ..
60!!!
Out of a world population of 6.4 billion!
Thats,ooh let me see now
0.0000000009375% of the worlds population.
And that's classed as an epidemic ?!?
ummm ... while I applaud the ingenuity in getting this to work, I feel they've missed the point by, oh, about 2 miles!

Not to be picky or anything, but thats an ethernet adapter not an TCP/IP adapter ... TCP and IP being protocols and not physical things :-)
Hmmm ... NOPE!
ATA is good for 2nd teir storage but I wouldn't dare put anything "enterprise level" on it, just far to slow at the moment.
