On non-HD, I found that Sat has a better picture, and for the full package, costs less.
Are the differences you note limited to HD channels?
The on-demand feature is certainly a plus.
Is persistantly glowing toilet water, so when that Charles Cella goes in and drops that big brick (that he's so full of) and water splashes his undercarriage, he can walk around with a glowing backside!
This will end up like the US coverting to the metric system. It's clearly the most logical thing to do. There will always be people or groups who resist the change...and as long as they have power to sway the vote, they will!
Forcing the change will cause the price of the set-top coverter boxes to go down.
Methinks SuSE recently became SUSE...but it's only a matter of time before it becomes Novell...and then nothing...at which point the Germans will take it back and it will become....
Midichlorians. Okay, maybe some more, while I'm at it: Jar-Jar; Ewoks (and their damned singing); the no-pre-emptive strike, self-defense Solo.
Never underestimate how willing the public is to eat up this crap...in fact, I once heard that if George Lucas were to take a big dump, fans would line up in droves to buy a little piece of it.
Star Wars and Empire were watchable. THX1138 was interesting. Everything else has been drivel.
Now excuse me while I go watch Howard the Duck.
From what I've seen, I like OS X. However, when you want to run OS X, you also need to have Apple hardware, which is about 50% more than comparable PC hardware (I'm not talking about the $400 Dell -- I'm talking about a custom built machine using good parts).
Whereas with Linux and BSD, a variety of hardware platforms are supported.
1. Surreptitiously replace Her Majesty with an open-source look-alike assassin;
2. Greet kneeling Gates with a smile
3. Lop off his head with Excalibur
You should watch ST:TNG episode 32 (Rightful Heir), where Worf goes to pray to receive a vision from Kahless and instead finds him returned from Sto Vo Kor. I won't spoil the episode, but Worf ends up finding out what is really important...
I know it's a little nerdy, but sometimes Star Trek just gets it right...
The only sports that will ever be popular in the US are those that have frequent breaks in play, during which commercial advertisements are shown.
Football is a 90 minute game (four 15-min qtrs, one 15-min halftime, plus 15-min of misc bullshit) interlaced with 90 minutes of ads. Basketball and baseball are no better. Hockey has less interruptions. Soccer (football to the rest of the world) has almost none. In fact, I've seen some pretty neat methods for displaying ads around the pitch while the game is in process (a much more passive way to get the ad in there). But this is why hockey and soccer will never be more popular in the US.
The only redeeming feature of the stupor bowl is the ads.
Are you kidding?
Canada had the opportunity to get the best of three countries...the technology of the US, the culture of the British, and the cuisine of the French.
Instead, they ended up with the culture of the US, the cuisine of the British, and the technology of the French!
I don't know why you'd post your rebuttal as AC. I assume the information contained in your link is accurate, and it's not surprising. However, I must point out that people living below the poverty line within the US are still far better off than impoverished citizens of third-world countries. Additionally, people are willing to risk life and limb just to get into the US to live and work illegally, even if it means living below the poverty line. Why? Because the US still offers one thing that you won't get in most other countries (including INDIA) -- opportunity to rise above your current status -- above the poverty line.
It is this that makes the US great. Unfortunately, a lot of our own citizens and even members of the Congress have forgotten this fact.
The thing is, it only takes one "bad apple" to spoil the whole barrel....
For instance, with dvd player, it was APEX who sold a player that didn't have macromedia, and would play discs of varying formats. It sold like hotcakes, which I believe forced other manufacturer to follow suit (i.e. respond to the market). Likewise, with music, I don't give a crap what I-Tunes or Rhapsody, or Wal-Mart is selling in the way of DRM'd tunes...as mp3search.ru is there on the scene, legally, I might add, selling non-DRM'd music. Finally, I'm getting to the age where if it ever gets to a point where there truly is no choice, then I'll do without. I control my little corner of the market, and I have a say where my money goes.

we'll see a rise in "Men at Work" downloads now...

It's like the Seinfeld band-aid analogy.

I'm just looking for a webserver that can withstand 50 minutes of Slashdotting!
SuSE!
You'll find that to be the case with most CS depts. You'll need to study law if you want to screw people.
As soon as I finish my boiled eggs, cabbage and beer, I'll send some ultrasonic signals their way...complete with Sensurround(TM) technology.
Where there are lawyers involved, there will cash payments.
It's the nature of the beast.

That's just negligence, plain and simple.
I'm tired of all the blame being put on the black hats, who are simply exploiting the stupidity of the masses. End the end, neither problem is solved.
But I'm sure you'll get over it quickly...after all, this is Slashdot.
Sounds like a troll to me...Okay, I'll bite...

Why would I want to make that kind of switch?
Microsoft engineers watched Spielberg's AI at least once.
It did, in fact, already happen. It was called the Boston Tea Party.
We now (yanks) are facing the same situation, where a greater percentage of wealth is gobbled up by the machine.
I wonder what the new country will be called?

Bill is dead. Long live Bill!
No, they are not evil.
Actually, they indicate that you're getting enough fiber in your diet!
My own stool, sir, are perfect. They are gigantic, and have no more odour than a hot biscuit" Dr John Kellogg (Anthony Hopkins)
My thoughts exactly.....with the GPL, I never have to worry about this sort of thing.
The young man is clearly in the "wrong" here. Chalk it up to the foolishness of youth.
Well, I got the reaction I was expecting! Thanks for the laugh!
