I haven't even seen all three movies, only the first, and I was extremely impressed. No, I take that back; I was astounded. It made me think, and reinforced that thinking, since the Matrix final films were released: if the type of level of effects were possible in TT & ROTK, why was Matrix so, and everything else, so bad? In my opinion, it makes the Matrix a pop music phenomenon, and ROTK a classical masterpiece. At any rate, we'll certainly see how much Hollywood politics weighs in once the Oscar decision is announced.

I honestly have never been able to understand why someone would choose a career they have no great intrest in simply because they could make fairly good money.

There were a high number of people I schooled with that were in computer science because they "wanted to learn about computers". These students were from the population who continue to believe that computer programming is glorified data entry. It dang sure ain't.

Lets get one thing straight: open source is not perfect, and Microsoft is not the only company to write proprietary software; they just happen to be the most successful one. But everyone, from open source advocates to Larry Ellison, knocks MS just because it's the trendy thing to do. But in my experience, based on 10+ years as a both a developer and user of *nix & Windows, Microsoft makes a better product, and it's much closer to perfect than open source will ever be.

I read the article about her site, the death threats, etc., and regarding the closing of the site I simply ask (rhetorically) "Who Cares?"

I remember the pre-GUI days, cassette tapes, BASIC, and 2600 baud modems, and online bulletin boards, and punch cards, and walking across campus to the computing center to wait in line for 3 hours to run payroll and hoping to god it ran correctly because I dropped the goddamn cards on the way there.
