It is products like these that are important to the Open Source community.

    How, exactly?

    Really, I'm being serious.

    • Does KISS donate any revenues or profits received to any OSS projects?
    • Does KISS publicly acknowledge and recognize the hard work from all the MPlayer developers?
      • After all, their product wouldn't be what it is today without the hard work of others.
    • Does KISS offer to host a mirror of the MPlayer code & binaries to help show their support?
    • Does KISS contribute back their code changes to the MPlayer project so the entire project benefits? (changes do not have to be accepted, however.)

Again, I ask, with all honesty, just how do products like these benefit the OS community; because frankly the way I see it, what's happening here is nothing more than greedy sons-of-bitches who are exploiting the hard works of others.

Maybe it was 6.2, I can't remember now (as I only use my laptop for work) but in any event - if you can find the first version of QuickTime that supports AAC/Audio then you'll have no problems.

On the Mac, you probably won't even need to rename the files since the Mac doesn't associate a file with it's extension (natively).

Because most people mistakenly believe the DRM is actually in the FILE, when in fact QuickTime, and the subsequent QuickTime/AAC component in the iPods is the piece that's controlling the DRM.

There is absolutely no DRM whatsoever within the iTMS downloaded file.

There IS, however, your iTMS UserID & name embedded in the files.

    My proof is this -

I took an iTMS purchased track and was able to play it on my Windows laptop LAST MONTH by doing the following:

    1. Rename the file to .mp4
    2. Use QuickTime 6.1 for Windows. This version of QuickTime had no DRM support in it, and supported AAC audio.

China is an emerging market in the global economy. Should China continue to use Microsoft's Products, they perpetuate the illegal Monopoly has in this World.

Same goes for using Intel microprocessors for their PCs.

By creating their own versions of CPUs and Software, they are helping the World's economy, and hurting the Microsoft regime.

I agree with everything you've said, but by open and published standards, I'm referring to XML document formats, SVG graphic formats, and the like.

Of course though, if China's Office Suite cares to interoperate in a Microsoft world (which it is one today) then they'll have to introduce some symmetric filters to facilitate import and export of their documents, which also means there will be more eyes looking at the closed Microsoft formats.

Now, nothing is indicated that China will release any of their efforts open-source, but if there's enough interest they just might.

As I said in my original post, "Any competition to Microsoft Office is Good," and I still stand by that.
