From wikipedia, "While customer reaction to the EV1 was positive, GM viewed the program as evidence that electric cars occupied an unprofitable niche of the automobile market, evidenced by their ability to lease only 800 units in face of production costs of US$1 billion over four years." Granted they tried to lease and not sell, but only 800 units leased over four years is small no matter how you cut it. And with only a 55-75 mile range, they only appeal to some urban and suburban dwellers.

The best part about the GPL is that it allows code to be modified and run anywhere, closed platform, obscure platform, new platform, etc. As long as code is properly released, they can sell it without moral implications. If you do not like it, repackage it yourself, eat the costs and make the game better or worse as you see fit. These men did spend time on developing it for a new platform and should be able to be paid for their efforts, assuming the market wants their product.

Get your masters in this economy from a public university (great value). You can never take away an education and its benefits are endless if you apply them properly. Think about going part time and getting work experience. If you have a higher education and experience only your attitude and quality of work will set you back. I did the MBA route without much work experience, I just plowed through. Without a good amount of experience, I am looked at in different ways. Some think its good, others bad. I honestly think think you should go to school full time the first year and then work and go part time. You will have experience and credibility when you graduate.

Hopefully, in the future this will not be a problem. I do not think externalities are the same as what I was referring to though. Also, it seems to me that socialism hiding the true costs is an inherent part of the system, unlike capitalism where it has simply been the status quo.
