not broken - shut down. They were sued and are now history. It was in an earlier articel about the MPAA crackdown (or maybe that was on Evilavatar) - at the very bottom of the article they listed which sites had been shut down - and btefnet was one of them.
I loved LOTR, but the Silmarillion put me to sleep. Yes, huge landscape, huge time, epic history and complex language structure - but it was all presented in a dry form. The first bits were great, the last section was interesting, but a vast majority of the middle was dry beyond imagining. (for me)
true, the trilogy of "science fiction" novel he wrote should really be referred to as fantasy - probably something like "theological fantasy" at that. Just because it involves other planets, does not mean it has to be called SciFi - but people do that anyways.
how is it immoral? Are you equating "file sharing without the consent of the copyright holder" with theft?
If that is the argument (not that I am likely to get a response from the original AC), then I would like to ask who is being robbed? If the person downloading the material would never have purchased it, then no one is being deprived of revenue.
why do people post these sorts of responses anonymously? Are they really THAT worried about someone being unhappy with them? Lots of environmnetalists post things on Slashdot without worries - so are you just trolling?
You're right - people in california are a little bit weird in the head about water. Currently I am living in Utah, but lived in california from 1987-1999 and got to see some of the drought. Many californians now understand water shortages and whatnot - but part of the confusion is that the farmers that owned the water rights sell those rights to the cities. Another part of the problem is that, at least in my little valley (Santa Clarita - 30 miles north of LA and just north of the San Fernando Valley) the natural aquifer has been sucked dry. There's still water there every year, but it isn't nearly enough for the more than 200,000 people that now live in the area. Much of southern california's water comes from northern california via a pipeline constructed in the 1930s and 1940s - in many places it really is "magical." It just appears.
The real problem is that people try to create cities in deserts, and grow crops where no crops should grow.
so what exactly happens once someone pisses themselves in a movie? I used to work in a theater and we were definitely not equipped to handle that sort of problem.
I think, at least in the US, that most people were introduced to the book first. I have read the books over and over again, but never listened to the radio series. I watched the BBC miniseries and thought it was awful (although that was a few years ago - perhaps if I revisited it I would like it more.)
Most americans barely know the radio series existed - but they've at least heard of the book. While americans should not rule the world, if you ask a bunch of americans (who know something about the Guide) about the Hitchhiker's Guide, this is the response you will get.
The point of the parent was that the farmers were using the water for crops that no one wanted - "making a living" isn't a good enough reason to waste a scare commodity. Why not just pay the farmers to "soil bank" instead, and use the water where it's needed?
Actually, there is some audio hardware that also uses RJ-11 jacks for power. They come with warning labeles on the connectors and everything. I still don't understand why they would do that. Perhaps they believe it is a cheap and easy way to transfer DC power (cheaply availabel connectors and such). either way, it always seemed like a REALLY bad idea to me - imagine if the power supply got plugged into your phone line - It might not damage the telco equipment, but it would could do some damage to all the phones in your house/office.
WoW! We can't sell you DSL until you've lived there a year? WHat the hell are they thinking? I wouldn't sit there and patiently wait for a year, then say "yippee! Now I can order DSL!" By the time that year was up they wouldn't have me as a customer ever again.
idiots
Well, I do get all those calls for free - and I am locked into the contract until July of 2006. If I could get everyone else I know away from verizon as well - I would love to go to T-Mobile. I am not sure what kind of reception they have out here, but the sidekicks always appealed to me.
I did notice it very strongly about 10 years ago right when I got a new pair of glasses - but my eyes adapted fairly quickly. The effect seems to have lasted over several pairs of glasses since then though - now I have to look at the light source to see the color edges - it's very pronounced on sodium vapor and fluorescent devices.
I have similar problems with verizon. Usually I have to make several attempts at a call before I get it to go through - and I am on top of one the biggest f-ing hills in Utah County (provo, ut). Sometimes I am in the tallest building, fairly close to the outside! I also get a lot of dropped calls - my favorite is still when I make a call, the phone starts counting seconds, but I can't hear a thing. The other person on the other end can hear me just fine, but I can't hear a thing. It really pisses me off - but the joke is on them. Every single person I call has a verizon phone. If I call someone at their home it's usually after 9pm. I use over 2000 minutes a month (my fiancee lives in another state) - and maybe 200 of those minutes are billable. I have the 400 minute a month plan. Suckers!
Of course, at any time they could cancel their special billing for verizon phone to verizon phone service - then I would be screwed.
Somethign else to consider with the stand alone dvd players is that in the last year or two the pre-recorded media has changed sufficiently that some first generation DVD players have difficulties recognizing the newer dvds. My friend has an older sony dvd player - it still plays his old discs fine but plays less than 1 in 3 new discs.

An excellent book with some interesting political commentary - while the movie sucked royally.
ah yes, but does your staff have a knob on the end? If it doesn't, you must be a wizard!
where are you based? are you looking for more "miners?" I do have some experience with audio and video hardware.
hopefully you won't be inside that molten heap.
403 FORBIDDEN! Did you post that link just to tease everyone? or are they blocking access already because of the Slashdotters?

I'm not sure how much of the new character was DA's idea, but it has been reported that h did create the character and put it in the movie.

ahhhh, monty python. That's an awesome little parody.

last season's finale was great - we all travelled in time so that now no one had to do anything.
Druids? druids? These aren't the druids you're looking for....

I wish I had mod points right now. Great stuff!
