Well, I'd rather mess with my body as little as possible when it comes to stuff like this. Vaccines aren't always a sure fire bet, and something like AIDS warrants extra circumspection. I'll wait for version 1.5 or 2.0, or 3.0, thanks. It's easier and safer abstaining to avoid the issue. This also mitigates the risk of unwanted kids as well as the unjust pressure feminist law has foisted on society in the context of relationships.
as opposed to 4 years of not having to deal with barack obama? This is not a troll. There is little difference between the two from a western european or eastern perspective. I suppose it's possible that romney has a bigger pair, and many countries just don't like the US very much and are happy to see it led by cowards. Of course, this is a measure of degree because being members of their respective parties makes them cowards who will never bring about significant change, at least imo.
most of the world is saddled with left wing passive aggressive pantywaisted pussified cultures. Obama is closer to this than romney, so it makes sense why they'd prefer him. western europeans, for example, have a rather simplistic view of america in the same way they're right that americans have a simplistic view of european politics. They just don't want to admit it. The eastern world, in contrast, is ruled by autocratic dicators, communists, national socialists, and theocracies..all prefer growing the state, which, again, is closer to obama's stated and acted-on position than romney's. From my personal perspective though, there isn't much difference bewteen the candidates. Both are big statists.
The most reliable and robust communication systems are often the simplest.. In disaster zones, n-way radio is often the most reliable electronic communications. perhaps cellphones should have a p2p mode that kicks in when it can't get on the cellnet..
idiots like you cheer for welding shut the hood and adding all this computerized bling.... until your car craps out. then when you're over a barrel because the vendors' new artificial scarcity kicked in thanks to that lockout, you run to your closest friend/shade tree mechanic only to have him tell you 'sorry can't help. I told you not to buy that car in the first place.'
There's something to be said for interfaces that 'just work.' The explorer shell is one of the few things windows 95 got right. I wish they had kept it post windows xp. The zombie it's become in windows vista/7 is horrendous. There's also something to be said for advanced interfaces, even if most users won't use them. They enable those that will inevitably have to help these types.
If you're on one 24/7 dealing with obtuse interfaces is time consuming and frustrating. Changing a few settings here and there helps a lot, whether it's faster mouse movement, smaller icons, or different fonts. It's the difference between feeling like you're the only limiter on efficiency and having to struggle with a computer designed for someone who watches soaps.
gui 'experts' are the ones giving us stuff like gnome3, unity and windows 8. are you suuure you want to listen to them over someone getting things done with computers long before most of the 8+ digit users here knew how to get online?
what the hell? why would you trust this 'porter industries'? How about just keeping control over your property and demanding that government leave you alone?
enough taxes.. it's obvious that governments don't have the discipline to use other peoples' money efficiently or to use their taxing powers non punitively. Governments and corporations have plenty. it's time for them to quit giving each other hand jobs and start fixing the stuff they claim they can fix instead of hoarding power and resources for the elite.
because western europe has a culture rife with insecurity and individual powerlessness. This breeds passive aggressive behavior such as this. Unfortunately this crap is breeding here in america too.
except that osx really isn't unix at all.. just like android really isn't unix either.. they both use a unix like kernel, but that's where the similarity ends. The meat and potatoes of osx application design and user interface is decidedly ununix.
If your willful attempt to ignore someone who is telling you something important that affects you, and you choose to ignore it, that's your business. However, when your ignorance affects him negatively, your behavior does become his concern. Grabbing your phone in the MIDDLE of such a conversation is bullshit. You deserve to have it crammed down your throat or up your ass..or at the very least have it smashed on the ground, should the situation be dire enough.. You can't walk around through life (or drive!) with your head down looking at the cellphone while expecting everyone else to get out of your way.
because its not really prejudice at all when there's some truth in the 'prejudicial' statement. It's just that the term is misused by people as a passive aggressive label to deflate legitimacy of truth they don't like. A lot of kids today ARE androgynistic and flighty. They have no spine and no balls. They don't stand up for themselves because their parents and society have taught them that the opposite is what's acceptable. Not hurting feelings is more important than understanding/acting on the truth of a matter. Neurotically tracking group consensus (with a cellphone or anything else really) so that one can be sure he is in compliance is not a good example of a trait that will help survival of this society in the coming decades..
You bet it will be a problem when interests not aligned with them impact their 'entertainment' in some way.. of course by then america will be no different than somalia.. Seriously, this 'need' to be 'connected' is just a massive case of insecurity brought on by a society that increasingly does not tolerate individual empowerment and achievement.

there comes a point when your ideology conflicts with what you need to get done. When that happens, is it better to just dump the machine entirely and not do whatever it is you need to do?...or, suck it up and deal with some insecurity?
well then it's time for the people in charge of this, who were probably the lawyer/prep/ivy league have-it-alls in highschool, to get over their cliquish demands for irrelevant shit like dresscode conformity, good looks, superficial pop culture interests, and top tier athleticism if they want the very best technologists. Of course, if these assholes had learned anything since high school, they'd realize calling anything 'cyber' or 'virtual' scares away the people they're trying to bring in before they even start.
1. they're all locked down in some way compared with the existing x86 desktop. 2. they're simplified to the point of uselessness for anyone who knows what they're doing (the vendors' competition). 3. the result of 1 and 2 is that they're consumer-hostile devices disguised as 'convenience' network-dependent platforms rather than empowering tools one can own and retain control over (ie trust). I see little of interest here for the same reasons I don't care about my cable box.
So far I've seen little innovation other than rehashes/dumbed down versions of existing software, just with ads or with 'subscription' hooks and simplified interfaces. The closest thing we have to open is android and even that's riddled with binary only drivers and userland. bleh..
oh and spare me the 'all users want is convenience so you should just learn to deal with it' posts.. just don't bother. I've heard it all before. There's no reason why they can't have their convenience along with the power to tinker if they choose to. It's just too bad that today's users don't understand that gaining advantage with powerful tools requires a learning curve. It's also too bad that I along with tomorrow's crop of 8 to 14yos won't have the opportunity to really learn to command tomorrow's computer technology without a licensed sandbox.
It might be, but that doesn't mean we should change the constitution so that those morons stay ignorant and silent. I suggest that you look hard at your own country. I"m sure you'll find the same problems there. The problem is that your pride probably prevents you from seeing it objectively. I outgrew my pride long ago, if I had it at all. Have you done the same?
See, this is why they're doing phase I trials on people who are already infected with HIV. You know, like it says in the summary?
yeah like you read the article.. welcome to slashdot.
What the fuck are you talking about, and what the fuck does it have to do with the article? You know what? Never mind, I don't want to know.
obviously, I'm not the only one suffering from lack of reading comprehension skills tonight.

hey buddy, without servers, your little tablet toys will show you just how useless and dependent they are.
wha? just rightclick the clock, properties, and set it how you want.

Maybe you haven't.. It's entirely possible, actually. This trend started with your/our generation.
