  1. Automate with free software on It's 2006 and Backups For Home User Still Tricky? · · Score: 1

Like others have already said, backing up to optical media is a pain.. Like seriously 4 gig discs? Ugh.. Painful.

Buy a 320gig HD (about $120cdn), pop it into an external enclosure (or not), and use something like: SyncExp (http://syncexp.com/). Pick your host and mirror drives, run it as often as you want manually or setup some automated crons. And yes, it's for windows.

Otherwise go nuts and setup a slave linux box with a redundant RAID5 array and setup cron jobs there to backup all your critical data every 5 minutes if you wish.

  2. IE Hacks on Update on Standards and CSS in IE7 · · Score: 1

I'm really curious as to how they are going to handle the * html hack that is current with IE6...

If they have fixed the aforementioned bugs (from the IE7 Blog) will we still be able to target IE6 and whatnot the same way? Wonder wonder wonder..

I can see shit + fan if the same * html hack works in IE7, or if there isn't a way to target it specifically.. But who knows, it's gonna be a gong show regardless.

    Yay for IE!

The brutal part about IE being part of the OS is that people seem to be retarded about opening/closing their web browser.

I've heard that Moz loads too slow all the time... Waaaaa.. It's not as fast as IE.

Why don't people just realize that once you open your web browser you should just leave it open?! Why are you even on your computer? :P

Anyways.. back to my point. People will keep using IE simply because it's there, and the convience of being one of the fastest loading applications in Windows (oh wait.. I forgot about Calc.exe).

Oh.. And most people can't wrap their heads around tabbed browsing (or see the point of it). But tell them it blocks popups then they get excited.

Back when I lived somewhere were I couldn't get DSL I had to use these bastards. Funny thing was when I signed up it was for "Unlimited Internet" and all their advertisting was supporting this, no clause, nothing.

They disconnected my service for a week after saying they warned me. I had to physically go downtown to their building and raise some hell. Needless to say they switched it back on. Also our household usage was something like 10gigs/mth and they said that was 100's times more than ANYONE else (*cough* bullshit *cough*).

Since being back on DSL I've had ZERO problems. Granted the service support on Telus is brrrrrrutal, but when it works it works good. :D
