Zoo Tycoon - The same game where you can release the lions to slaughter your guests? Yes, very non-violent.

  2. Re:Did anyone suggest: on L.A. County Bans Use Of "Master/Slave" Term · · Score: 1

Oh yes, because then every four years, we could possibly have a new ban and have to change it to Democrat/Republican.

In other news: Bush's shoe size is now the official length of the foot. Democrats plan on changing the length to Dean's foot size if he comes to power.

Of course they have a right to bundle what they want with their software. Thats really a non-issue. What is the issue is that Microsoft wires these things into their OS so there is no way to uninstall.

  4. I can't believe no one has mentioned... on What MUDs Do You Play? · · Score: 1

Dragonrealms! The name sounds campy but it is the best thought out MUD I have ever played. You used to be able to play for free through AOL, but now its about 9.95 a month. Skill based experience system. 8 guilds with two more in the making with one set to be released once DR2(major systems upgrade) comes out.

It isn't for people who like to PK all the time, although PKing is allowed if it is concented by all parties and/or RPed out. Roleplaying is encouraged by role playing awards which increase your rate of learning ALL skills for at least an hour.

Staff is on duty in game 24/7. Performance is good and the system is rock solid. Major updates to all parts of the game twice a year with minor updates all throughout the year. Events, quests, you name it.

Generally you can expect to see 800-1000 people playing at one time so you always have opportunities for roleplay. Check it out at http://www.dragonrealms.net.

So what you're saying is that the machines allow anyone to broadcast themselves into the Matrix whenever they want? I doubt it. I see a bit of hacking going on there.

No, we just don't want to get fucked over by copy-protection that steps all over our fair use rights. I've already decided to buy the game, and I would have made the same decision even if there wern't any 'extras' for having a real CD key.

  14. Re:Easy Fix.... on Next-Gen Pop-up Ads · · Score: 2, Insightful

Maybe you don't understand. We shouldn't HAVE to be forced to install a pop-up blocker just to enjoy browsing the web. On that same logic thread, all ISPs deserve the bandwidth loss for massive ammounts of spam unless they install mail filtering software... which takes up CPU cycles anyways.

  15. DSL or cable choice? on AT&T/Comcast Consider Aussie-Style Bandwidth Caps · · Score: 1

ATTBI/Comcast is my local cable provider while Ameritech owns the phone lines in the area. If I wanted to get rid of cable and move on to DSL I'd have to go to one of Ameritech's "partners" or Ameritech itself. Not surprisingly their partner's offer the exact same service for the exact same price as Ameritech. Earthlink and other providers which have better DSL service for better price are not allowed to use Ameritech's lines.

It looks to me that my choice is metered cable or Monopolistic DSL at half the speed for 1.5 times the price. I think I'm going back to 56K. :(
