  1. The platform wars are over on Will the Wii Work? · · Score: 1

Why are people still under the impression that buying one console forbids you from buying any others? That stops being true once you get out of high school and get a real job.

  2. Physical is dead on Analog Revival Means Vinyl Will Outlive CD · · Score: 1

    3. You needn't tweak, optimize, or otherwise fiddle with a console game to make it look good. How many games have I had to overly tweak or specialize....maybe two. The settings allow more PCs to play games, and it doesn't take rocket science to figure out. Most games implement the Bad, Better, Best system of setting for the real dim witted ones. And as for the articles, you get what is advertised with a console game, this is not true. I simply point to the PS2 debacle. You know, when they were not clear pre-launch about shots being in-game.

You kind of defeated your own argument there- PC games go the extra mile to make sure that more PCs can run the game by reducing quality, but on a console 100% of the machines run the game at maximum quality at all times. And that's not even getting into the tweaking necessary to get around problems with your setup.

And if you're going to complain about bullshit screenshots, talk to owners of not-cutting-edge video cards who are never going to get the graphics quality used to promote PC games either.

  9. Re:Yawwwnnn. on Blu-ray vs. HD DVD Round Two · · Score: 1

I bet in less than a year's time, there is going to be some new HDTV surround sound requirement that will force everyone to replace their current dolby digital sound / speakers in order to truely enjoy hdtv sound.

We're almost there. There was recently an update to the HDMI spec (1.3) that may break compatibility with older HDMI devices.

I also have a question... this thing about 32bit vista not being able to produce true HD resolution with movies.... is that some kind of joke?

Vista on 32-bit will not require the use of signed device drivers; on 64-bit it will. Microsoft decided, with prodding from the MPAA, naturally, to disallow true HD resolutions when there is a chance that the data will pass through unsigned code on the way from the drive to the monitor. So no, it's not a joke, but it has nothing to do with how powerful the computer is.

There's also a big reason to use iTunes for TV that doesn't apply to either music or movies: Get it the day after it airs, not a few months later on DVD or at some indeterminate time when the network decides to rerun it.
