Obviously we won't know until the sales start coming in. One thing I think will help them is they will get impulse buys. Someone looks at the virtual console catalog and sees this game they loved but forgot about. Now if they saw it at the store it may not be worth the effort of buying a console or finding it and hooking it up just for that game. I know I'd rather not bring out my dusty NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, etc when I could have one machine do it all. That's why I pretty much use an emulator when I want to play an old game.
A few things Nintendo could do to make the games more interesting would be allowing multiplayer over the Internet, free games from time to time when you buy certain Wii titles, allow the older games to be downloaded to the DS for portable play, making a monthly subscription fee to play any virtual console game (I heard a rumor about this), and possibly add content to them. I'll be interested in seeing their tactics.
I've talked to many non-nerds that don't read slashdot that were excited about the ability to play the old NES/SNES games as well. I'm not saying it will be for everyone, but I think it will do very well for Nintendo. I think it's much more short-sighted to say that no one will give a shit about it. Nintendo has proven there is a desire for the old games by releasing them on the GBA and getting good sales with higher prices than I would pay for them. Besides, most of us slashdotters could just download the ROMs and emulators and play free at this very moment. Even so, most were enthusiastic about the virtual console. It's a hell of a lot smarter than the UMD movies that Sony came up with IMHO.
Nobody gives a shit whether you can play the original "Legend of Zelda" on a 2006 gaming console.
Did you read all the positive posts about this? I think a lot of people give a shit and are excited over a console that can play new and retro games, I know I am. I didn't think people were going to be too thrilled about the prices, but it seems to me that people are eating it up already. I was hoping for $1.50 to $2.50 for some of the older classics, but I think this is going to be highly successful for Nintendo.
It is nice that they use a different user agent for website statistics. Makes it easier not to count them as a visitor, find out what pages on your site they've been indexing, etc.
It could end up that they sell a lot of consoles. Who wants to bet that the PS3 runs into shortages like the 360 did? The Wii might not have that problem considering the hardware isn't as "state of the art". I think Nintendo is going to kick some butt this time.
I think the game was great. The main thing I was disappointed with was that it seemed way easier than most of the previous mario games. I beat the end boss on the first try, and nearly every boss the whole game. I remember the feeling of achievement beating mario 3 and it just wasn't there with this game. It was still fun and I'll continue hunting for the secrets. I can't wait for Super Paper Mario on the Gamecube. It's about time we see a 2D Mario on the main consoles again. I wish more game companys would realize there is still a market for fun 2D games. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was one of the best games ever in my opinion. More please!
Why would you need a powerglove when you could just hold a remote in each hand a procede to punch as if you were wearing gloves anyway? I guess for obscene gestures to your opponent it would rule though!
I'm excited that it's a lot of fun too. Wouldn't it make more sense to be ExciteBike though? At least on a bike you can lean to try to straighten the bike out, but in a truck? It would seem cooler with a bike too because while you were on the ground you could use the controller to easily lean, pop wheelies, etc. making corners and obstacles more interesting perhaps.
I know someone who put adsense on their site and then clicked hundreds of ads to "Find competing websites" so they could block them. They were terminated, but they pleaded their case and swore they wouldn't do it again. After about a month Google let them back in. I was surprised.
Sure, I've downloaded shows when I couldn't wait for them to come out on DVD, but then when they do come out I always buy them. I like to have the cases, bonus material, etc. The RIAA/music studios pissed me off with the copy protection crap, so I don't buy music cds at all. The MPAA/movie studios are getting close to pissing me off too. I don't like putting in a DVD I just bought and then have to watch a damn video telling me not to steal it. People downloading it off the Internet aren't going to see their message, only the paying folks. Do they think they make people feel guilty enough to stop pirating? Doubtful. I know several friends that own over 100 DVDs. I also know three that own over 1000, including myself. I don't personally know anyone that only pirates movies and doesn't buy them, although that is just in my little world.
I also don't go to theaters anymore because I don't like the crouds, expensive food/drinks, and it's just not as convienent as watching it at home. Of course, I also have a projector and nice speakers/receiver so why bother.
If it's anything like the "re-imagining" of this show, count me out. No idea why so many people fall for this show. The new BG is below par in just about every aspect of production....
I'm running an ATI 9800 Radeon Pro (latest drivers) and the game runs just fine at 1024x768 with draw distance high. The game auto detected and set me at 640x480, but I see no problem at 1024x768 (haven't even tried higher.) You didn't say what your CPU was, but mine is a P4 3Ghz and I have 1 Gig RAM. The game is just awesome. I'm glad they kept the load times to a minimum on the PC version.
I stopped drinking caffiene December of 2004 as my new years resolution. I then gave up all soda around a month later. I was heavily addicted to caffiene. Every time I tried to quit I would get really sick. I drank tons of water to help keep myself away from the soda and this time I barely even got a headache. I've lost about 30 pounds in 2005 when I was gaining weight in 2004. I don't excercise at all and sit in front of a computer all day (which I really should change.)
I was really looking forward to that game too. They could make a real fun game out of Stargate and this one was looking good from the previews. Hopefully someone will scoop them up and finish the project.
We had bad luck with a Windows NT server hosting about 50 websites and running MySQL databases. It was slower than pulling out of Iraq! Man that Pentium 150 processor was smokin!
Ok, bad example. Haven't tried it since, lol. (Hey, it ran ok on a simular linux server!)
I want a high-res, high-polygon, and much longer/harder Katamari Damacy for the PS3 or the Revolution. Launch would be good. I breezed through the other games, but still played them for months because of their fun factor. It's the only game I'm looking forward to on the PSP, which is sad.
The main hero resembles Goku from DragonBall Z for sure. Some of the other characters you will find in the game also resemble DBZ. The part that made me LMAO was when I "Psyched" the Goku-like hero up in battle. If you psych him up 4 times he looks like he turns into a Super Saiyan! I still laugh every time I do it. Not that the resemblance to DBZ is bad, the artwork in this game is awesome. Plus the game is long and enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone who likes RPGs.
Know how much a DS or PSP costs? I'm sure McDonalds can't afford to give away a $200 gaget with the purchase of a $3 meal.
Perhaps not, but couldn't they offer a free download to your DS with a happy meal? Seems like it would go well with the free wireless DS access I hear they are doing at many McDonalds already.
I have not bought a single music cd since they started puting copy protection on them. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I don't pirate my music, but I imagine some people who want to be able to play their music on their computer find it easier to pirate then to bypass the copy protection. I don't mind copy protection per say, but when it limits what you can do with your media, or spys on your every move, it pisses me off. I buy tons of DVDs and video games, but the music industry isn't going to get a dime out of me through cd sales.

I hear version 2.0 of this hybrid motorcycle will scrap beans and use a mix of Diet Coke and Mentos. 0 to 100 in 1 second!
I'm just surprised there isn't a microphone in their controller since they seem big on that lately.

and personaly that is what matters.. because after the first 4 beers well... you really can't tell the diffrence between consoles
;)
Can't much tell the difference between friend and enemys either!
Warning: This link contains pictures of women is circumstances that slashdot users may not be used to seeing

Damn, that was so funny. Makes you wonder if he did it on purpose! LMAO!

You reach a certain point when killing a slime isn't worth any valuable xp, yet every couple of steps another battle.
You do know you get items and spells that will keep these low level creatures from attacking your party, right?

I agree season 4 was the best. Season 1 was difficult for me to get through and it slowly got better from there.
