Besides that, scanners are usually cheaper than digital cameras anyway and can do much more than 300 DPI if you need it for another task. The scanner gets the lighting even and doesn't have to be focused. Maybe the reasoning is that it's faster to take a picture than to scan a document.
I was distinctly unimpressed by the E3 video of Metroid, it looked boring, it looked like Halo.
I could never get into Halo myself. I did play it with a friend after he kept telling me how good it was. It seemed generic and boring to me, just like any other FPS. But I loved Metroid Prime, it's more about exploration and puzzles, but still of course a shooter. Honestly, the video from E3 wasn't very impressive at all if you ask me. If you get a wii I would recommend picking up the first Metroid Prime (I've seen it for less than $7) or rent one of them. Of course, it just might not be your cup of tea, but if you look at reviews it got great scores, one of the highest rated for the gamecube. It's probably one of my all-time favorite games, and I'm not much into FPS games.
No, I haven't imported any DVDs or players. At one time I thought about importing anime, but now tons of anime are being sold here. Besides, it's always easier to download some fan subs then to bother importing all that stuff. How many people use bit torrent (etc) instead of importing? I bet the figure is huge. I know many people who have downloaded anime, but none who have actually imported any DVDs. Now video games are a different story. The average person can't just download a current generation console game and play it, unless they find a way to mod their console. I think the average person also has no idea the great games they are missing that are never released on their shore.
Honestly, I have too big of a selection right here in my country that I don't need to look elsewhere for entertainment. I don't have enough time to watch and play all that I already own.
I think pretty much every consumer knows to only buy region free DVD players.
No way. Most people don't even know or care about regional encoding. If consumers only bought region free DVD players then all of them would be region free. I buy a DVD player for picture quality, not lack of region encoding.
Would you buy a region locked DVD player? Would you even be able to find a shop that sells them?
Yes and Yes. Most of the DVD players sold in stores ARE region encoded.
quote from timefordvd.com - "There are some multi-region DVD players (those that can play more than one DVD region codes) and even region-free DVD players (those that can play DVDs with any region code). Many of these multi-region and region-free DVD players are altered as after-market models by third-party vendors. Chances are during the alteration process, these third-party vendors have voided the manufacturer warrantee."
Quote from Wikipedia - "Some countries' laws consider regional lockout to constitute unfair restraint of trade; all DVD players sold in those countries must be region free." Maybe you're from one of those countries?
I wouldn't mind if it came with a second controller, but I'd rather have the choice to buy it instead of paying more for the console itself. Maybe because I'm more excited for Metroid and Zelda than the party games, which will be fun too. Some of the wii sports titles may only need 1 wiimote, like bowling or golfing where you take turns anyway. I doubt MS will have to drop their price for a while since the consoles are very different. For many people they will probably compliment each other. Now, the PS3 on the other hand may have to drop their price to compete with MS or Nintendo. We'll see, it's definitely interesting to see how all of these events turn out.
How is the controller situation any different from any of the other next gen consoles? How about a $400 Xbox 360 with one controller, or a $600 PS3 with one controller. The Xbox 360 controllers are $50 a piece for wireless and you don't get two with the console either. It makes sense that the wiimote would cost a little more with the motion sensing, speaker, etc. I don't think the $10 difference is really worth bitching over. At least Nintendo sells it in two pieces so you could spread the cost out if you wanted. It would be nice if they had an ethernet port, but I already have a wireless network in my home so it's not too big a deal here. If Opera isn't free then don't buy it, I probably won't. I hear there is still a chance it will be free, which would seem smarter to me. They could still have the browser start at some portal page and make money off the users. As for tax, you'd have that with any console, it's not Nintendo failing you there (I thankfully live in a state with no sales tax.) It's not like you are required to buy all of those things on launch day (besides taxes) and at least the system comes with a game in case you can't afford another one right away.
Nah, I think Duke Nukem Forever is being redone for HOLODECKS now. I know I'm looking forward to the 24th century release. Runs into the strip club "Who Wants Some?!"
I have to wonder if the price is really going to be $250 in North America. I read that the $212.50 price for Japan INCLUDES tax. I'm still hoping for the lower price point we've heard rumors of. I'll be buying one either way, I just want Nintendo to kick butt this time around!
Man, I remember Shadow of the Beast for the Amiga. Hats off to anyone who beat that game without cheating. The graphics and music would keep me coming back for more even though I didn't last long. And Ghosts & Gobblins was a really tough game too. There were many, many older games that were very difficult. It seems like most games are easier now-a-days compared to back then. I think many game developers actually try to make the games easy enough that more people can enjoy it. How many older games even had in-game tutorials?
Heck, they could even surf child porn sites from your machine and use your credit card and identity to purchase access to such sites. Who is to say that the hacker isn't the pedophile?
I hadn't heard anything about Metroid Prime 3 slipping from the launch lineup. It was confirmed as one a few weeks ago I thought. I did some searching and found a rumor about it slipping in a forum, but nothing concrete. Anyone know more?
The orginal transformers is kind of hard to find now unfortunately. I believe the studio that brought it out (Rhino) no longer has the rights to it. But I'm sure you could find copies on ebay or maybe somewhere local that hasn't sold all their copies/has used ones.
I think they did a movie because the DVDs sold so well, not because of petitions really. I support the shows I like by buying them on DVD, I think that speaks much louder than any petition.
The one thing I don't understand is why Sony couldn't leave rumble functionality in the controller and perhaps only disable it for games that use the motion sensing. Perhaps they have another reason (Patent licensing fees?) It's not like every game used it as it was.
I loved the original System Shock, so I was excited to buy the sequel. It took months for System Shock 2 to show up in my local retail stores after it was released. Then when it did show up, it was priced at $9.99. I was thinking to myself, "Wow, it's this cheap already? Did the game suck that bad?" I went ahead and bought it anyway and ended up loving the game. I would have gladly payed $50 for it, but it was never available for some reason. I have to wonder if it wasn't marketed very well.
Will DEVHOOK let you play games you purchased without upgrading your firmware, or is there any program that will? I'm at 1.5 still and would rather not upgrade to play the last game I purchased.
I bought the LE1600 slate tablet PC from motioncomputing.com. It's just awesome. Light, powerful, bright, great viewing angles, and good battery life. I like their convertible keyboard too, you just snap it on when/if you want to make it more like a laptop. The price is spendy, but it's quality worksmanship. If you're interested, here's a few reviews: review1review2 (w/video)

I had the same problem, but found that if I say bluuue instead of blue it understands it just fine.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If done well it could be cool.
My personal favorite would be Thundercats. It'll never happen, but I can dream.

I loved Dungeon Keeper. I always cursed EA for buying up good franchises and then never using them. Especially the ones from Origin and Bullfrog.

Oh, BTW, you missed seeing Halley's commet in your lifetime a few years ago.
Halley's comet last appeared in the inner Solar System in 1986, and will next appear in the summer of 2061.
Surely some of us will live that long.
Sweet! Thanks for the info
Maybe I'm missing something, but why the hell are you asking us?
Maybe he expects us to take them down via the slashdot effect.
HADOUKEN!
Bless you!
My mom, who used to live in Maine, still calls them cahs after moving to the west coast over 30 years ago!
