    newer than...say...gentoo unstable?

are you insane? gentoo devs put new software into portage before they are released!
Do note, this was meant mostly as a joke... if portage devs put a package in before it was released... indeed it would break portage. I was merely arguing that Debian does not nearly have the most recent package repository(sp?) compared to gentoo. Look at any other meta-distribution and you see quicker updated packages.

I am not a gentoo zealot, but I am a gentoo user. You can use... whatever the hell you want. I acctually think Debian kicks ass

Why on EARTH would the KDE project want to lose it's most recognized form of branding? Because a few "smart" people get offended by it's "K" repetition?

Let's say I was a garden gnome and was offended by the use GNOME's name?

Should GNOME have to change their name? Hell no

Should I be forced to use GNOME? Again...Hell No

As to the plug on the usability and intuitiveness of windows 2000, I take that as an attack against the KDE project, not as praise.

Does that mean you should take back what you said because I am offended?

    Hell No

It's one's own choice to find an innocent naming scheme offensive. And I respect that choice -- Just as much as I should hope you'd respect the Naming Choice of KDE Software developers. //standsolid//

And what is this "ancient X Server" you speak of? My XFree86 X11 implementation is still be actively developed, and there are several other implementations arising from those unhappy with it's state.
GNU/Linux does not DEPEND on it at all. Unlike YOUR Operating system of choice, I could work 100% independent of my GUI, and still be just as productive. Not only that, but as I mentioned earlier, There are people unhappy with it's state and building a new system. Let's say I don't like how Windows' GUI system works. I really want a network transparent GUI. Great! I'll replace This grpahical subsystem with an X11 implementation.... oh that's right. I FUCKING CAN'T!
