ONE PIECE AT A TIME

Well, I left Kentucky back in '49
An' went to Detroit workin' on a 'sembly line
The first year they had me puttin' wheels on cadillacs
Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black.
One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired
I'd have me a car worth at least a hundred grand.
CHORUS
I'd get it one piece at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when I come through your town
I'm gonna ride around in style
I'm gonna drive everybody wild
'Cause I'll have the only one there is a round.
So the very next day when I punched in
With my big lunchbox and with help from my friends
I left that day with a lunch box full of gears
Now, I never considered myself a thief
GM wouldn't miss just one little piece
Especially if I strung it out over several years.
The first day I got me a fuel pump
And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk
Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome
The little things I could get in my big lunchbox
Like nuts, an' bolts, and all four shocks
But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home.
Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til we tried to put it all together one night
And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The transmission was a '53
And the motor turned out to be a '73
And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone.
So we drilled it out so that it would fit
And with a little bit of help with an A-daptor kit
We had that engine runnin' just like a song
Now the headlight' was another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on.
The back end looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got thru
Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin
About that time my wife walked out
And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts
But she opened the door and said "Honey, take me for a spin."
So we drove up town just to get the tags
And I headed her right on down main drag
I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around
But up there at the court house they didn't laugh
'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff
And when they got through the title weighed sixty pounds.
CHORUS
I got it one piece at a time
And it didn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when I come through your town
I'm gonna ride around in style
I'm gonna drive everybody wild
'Cause I'll have the only one there is around.
(Spoken) Ugh! Yow, RED RYDER
This is the COTTON MOUTH
In the PSYCHO-BILLY CADILLAC Come on
Huh, This is the COTTON MOUTH
And negatory on the cost of this mow-chine there RED RYDER
You might say I went right up to the factory
And picked it up, it's cheaper that way
Ugh!, what model is it?
These companies tend to patent anything that will give them a competitive edge in the marketplace. "Stealing an idea" would probably get them into some legal hot water, just like stealing a TV, or your car.
I bought one from that guy. It works pretty well, and for a good price. Then I found that the receiver was compatible with my existing universal remote, so I didn't have to use the (decent) supplied remote.
If you're interested in controlling Winamp for free, you should investigate Girder at http://www.girder.nl . It is a hugely configurable infrared controller platform with plugins to do tons of things.
Using this hardware, I have built a MP3 player that is controlled by my universal remote. It works great!
If you're going for better sound, you can also check out the LP3. It's at http://www.lp3music.com . For $100 US, you get a thing that hangs off a parallel port and converts an MP3 stream into a very high fidelity output. No more shopping for super expensive sound cards! Also allows wimpy computers to play MP3s because it has its own onboard processor. Highly recommended!
"Using 4-bits of each sample sounds like a lot. I would imagine that even untrained ears could discern the quality difference between a stegged file and an original."
The original poster stated:
"yes, the file's lower four bits will be statistically at random, but this is true of anything but a pure CD rip anyhow - sound cards just can't sample accurately enough to get a clean lower four bits"
If people will accept the lower fidelity rips from a sound card (which they do), randomizing the least-significant four bits won't make a big difference.
We had bad luck with Appro servers in the past (non-Beowulf, though). They specified high-end processor cards and shipped very low-end cards. The Appro chassis became something of a joke around our office.
About a week or two ago, there was a TV news item in Canada about an investigator locating a man who was wanted for hijacking a flight from Canada to Cuba in 1970 or 1971. The investigator was going through cold case files, and put the name of the wanted man into Google. He got a hit, and found a quote by a man with the same name, living in the Northeastern US. The investigator checked into this person, and it was the man they were looking for.
The last major terrorist attack in America was carried out by Americans. The people responsible for this attack could very well be your neighbours. Still interested in using that nuke?
You wouldn't have to scan very far back through old articles to find the original posting of this bit of news. Actually, you'd have to go back one article.
Please make that much of an effort next time.
Matrox is Catching Up In The Driver Idiocy Wars

I agree with your ATI driver problems. That's why I ditched my TV Wonder and went to a Matrox TV Tuner with on-board hardware MJPEG compression. Unfortunately, a week later, Matrox announced that they couldn't figure out how to write a driver for it under Win2k, and that they were abandoning driver development for it under all platforms.
This was after months of promising that bug fixes would be addressed in the new version. The bug fix that I needed was for the tuner to bring in any channel other than Channel 6.
Needless to say, there is a strongly miffed group of Matrox owners who shelled out 2 or 3 hundred bucks for a sophisticated video capture and compression card, and ended up (due to driver hell) with a TV tuner card equivalent to one that sells for about $30.
You might want to try AVI_IO. It's a capture utility that greatly exceeds the functionality of that bundled with most capture cards. It is rock solid for maintaining Video/Audio sync and it will seamlessly generate multiple files if the capture segment you're dealing with exceeds the limitations of your OS's file system. More info about it can be found at their site
Matrox has hung a (previously very loyal) segment of their market out to dry by promising, then not releasing functional drivers for their MJPEG video-capture cards. When the date of the driver release arrived, they announced that they were dropping support for the MJPEG recording features of the cards, essentially turning a $200-$300 compressed-stream capture card into the equivalent of a $29 TV tuner.
The Matrox Droid does mention that "It is usually better to release less updates that are robust with a lot of bug fixes than a lot of frequent updates that resolve less issues and have not been QA'd extensively". In my experience, Matrox has trumpeted features of their cards, and operating systems that they will (eventually) run under, but then has given up because it would be too difficult to make the drivers work correctly.
I would highly recommend that anyone who might be considering buying a Matrox product steer clear of them.
Americans let's remember this when it's time to vote again in a few years.
Elections can be fixed. Like the last one.
What you need is to get some folks on the Supreme Court. Apparently they choose the presidents these days...

Tell me it was a Christmas present, or something...
The old saw involves who you know, not who you remain in constant communication with, through a wiretappable link.
There's a huge difference between the pool of tappable people and the pool of (7 degrees of separation-) known people.

It won't be much help to itself if it's buggy and limited.
