a more accurate analogy might not involve locks at all. you opened the door for them, and invited them (for a small fee) to try to 'steal' as much stuff as they could from within your 'secured area'. when your secured area is not as secure as you thought, your guest is now a criminal.

  14. Re:I don't get it on The State of Automated Commercial Skipping · · Score: 1

i dont know for sure either. but, based upon my 2 years of observation of a replay 4000 unit, it appears that commercial advance has an algorithm that evaluates the 'fade to blacks' between scenes.

given that a commercial break is usually a series of quick '30-second scenes' that go dark between, it seems to 'know' that a block of these can be classified as a commercial break.

there are several shows that seem to be able to trip up its scheme: law and order and '24' both seem to come back from commercial breaks to 1 or 2 'quick-cut' scenes. this will cause commercial advance to jump a couple of scenes into the program content. i usually just try to remember to turn off commercial advance when watching these programs--i've gotten pretty adept at tapping the default 'skip ahead' button (~30 seconds) a couple of times along with the 'jump back' (~7 seconds) button to get thru the commercial blocks of these programs.

The percentage of Safari Users that would use autocomplete is low at best ... it seems that the only people that are wanting this feature which causes interface clutter (eventhough minimal, it is is evasive) are the only ones posting, maybe several thousand. It also bloats code. Other than a few bugs, in my opinion, the only thing Safari needs is tabs. Everyone that I do business with uses tabs. Personally, I list on eBay; for this, tabs is great when listing or when paying for something online. I deal with 100's of customers a month and not one has wondered why Safari doesn't have autocomplete. ALL, miss tabs - some want password/keychain interaction.

  19. then change the focus of the arcade on Xbox Coming to Arcades · · Score: 1

yeah arcades are dead. back in the early 80s as a pre-teen i made a concerted effort to save my quarters and get mom or someone else to take us to the mall to play games. why, 'cause we didnt have 'em at home. i still like gaming as a 30something. graduated thru NES, SNES, N64, PS1 and play PS2 and XBOX now. do i go to the arcades anymore? hell no. all my quarters go into the titles i can play at home. but, there is another factor in the equation since i plunked in quarter after quarter. namely, the LAN party. i never had those when i was a kid. but, today that's all i hear about. and, rather than having to lug around your 'box' and coordinate an empty house, dorm floor, enough TVs, and powerstrips why not have them pre-setup in arcades. i realize this may be a bit OT, as MS is reportedly talking about making real arcade boxes that play xbox titles....not just putting in a bunch of xboxes. but, the hardware already supports the concept. just implement it. its hard these days to look back through the eyes of a 12 year old. but, seems to me plunkin down a fin for 1/2 hour session (same as 1/2 hour of pool) of arcade LAN party would be schweet.
