Well while I am happy to see a Vaccine being announced... However I am hoping that one will be developed for my parrots. I love my birdies, and do not wish for them to get the bird flu.
I have always been a fan of the Dragonlance books. For a year or so I even sat on the Whitestone council who does the new 3rd Edition D&D books for Dragonlance. Went to GenCon met Margaret and Tracy got recognized at the Dragonlance Author Reception etc... was great. Now I am slightly... well I don't like the idea of an animated Dragonlance film. Its something that can do JUST as well at the box office as LOTR did... and I just have a feeling that this MIGHT just MIGHT destroy it for me. I want to see a live action version of the movie.
Also what happened to Aron Eisenberg playing Tasslehoff? He volunteered to play it years ago and hes being pushed off? WTF? (BTW Aron is Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine for those of you who don't know.)
I am going to take this with a gain of salt for now I suppose. It has potential... but I don't like the idea of animated movies from a book. I didn't even like the animated version of LOTR. Can't connect with it as much. Ah well.
While I knew about this last week (whats with the lag on stories guys?!) I think that this design concept is something that should definately help the private space industry. I have been keeping up with the new private space companies through space.com and other outlets of information over the last year or so and I love this stuff. Not only is this design concept something new and innovative, but it is also paving the way for private stations to be built in space for less than say... the ISS is costing. I am a fan of the ISS as well, don't get me wrong, but this new technology has the potential to making stations much much larger than the ISS and allow for more dare I say it... spacious interiors for research and living quarters... since if you need more space you just launch another module that inflates itself and attach it. Don;t have to wait 2 years for this huge bulky thing to be built and put onto a shuttle to launch it either. Now all they have to do is figure out a way to do this on the moon. It'll be more difficult, as we all know, because of the fact that regolith on the moon is more abrasive... I wonder how this module would do in such conditions... anyone know?
I know that the Oxygen generators on board the ISS are able to support life for 5 people right now IIRC... If Discovery is damaged during liftoff tomorrow, and the crew has to take refuge aboard the ISS, how long would it take NASA to get Atlantis or Endeavor up to save them? While I have every confidence in NASA, I am just wondering if any of you know how long the C02 scrubbers and O2 generators can hold out with 9 people on board?
I don't think you're trolling and I agree. 3rd Edition is perfect rules for Video Games. I always liked the 2nd Edition rules with THAC0 and such. Hopefully they WILL put 1st and 2nd edition into PDFs. I would definately buy them.
I love this idea. While I like having my nice tidy bookshelves full of books, being able to have my laptop right there with a PDF to search for Rules or concepts would make people who are rule whores like me be able to find the specifics quickly without spending 20 minutes looking. I would like to see the PDFs discounted though, that would be a kicker to have to pay full price for the PDFs again just to have them on my laptop and not have to have 09571340987 books to look through. It would also be nice to see the Fantasy World books put out by Wizards to be in PDF too. Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, etc.
Usually, the way I keep up is well... checking slashdot, but not only that I also check out new and upcoming releases of programming books on Amazon.com. For instance I did not really look into AJAX until I started seeing a lot of information out there about it, such as books (WROX has a really good one cannot think of the title though). But usually I do not learn a new fad/trend until I see people actually using it in the work environment or seeing it being talked about a lot by my fellow developers. I see no reason to waste my time on something if its not going to stick around.
I have been in the same boat you are. As a web developer I have approched small businesses in the area and started a name for myself making them their websites such as the Local bird store (I love my parrots, I have 4) and my brother's company (booksacrossamerica.com - small plug hehe) and a car audio place... Just as an on the side type of jobs... they know I will not update their sites during normal business hours and I make like $500 a site here and there and it keeps me motivated to learn new things and look outward for new things to do while not at work.
wear and tear should not occur in the not so distant future after purchase. I have had an HP laptop for 2 years and have no discoloration on any of the plastic pieces, because the color goes all the way through the plastic, making wear and tear not so relavant on it. But if I just purchased a laptop a few months prior, damn straight I would Complaint about it.
From my experience with the Ibooks and Powerbooks, they all seem to have discoloration issues usually a few months after purchase. Personally this would annoy me to no end. I would bring it back and demand a new plastic piece be installed on the computer. I love apple, but it seems their plastic parts are kinda cheesey. But I would do this with anything that I buy, even as an above commentator mentioned, if this happened on a car, it would still get me from point to to point B, but I would be seriously disturbed. Apple should fix it for free in my opinion.
Why does it seem Microsoft is running out of good ideas? Pay as you go computing? How long would it be before you actually pay the amount that a new PC/Windows would cost for this? Is Microsoft going to be the next Rent-a-Center, where you pay $5000 for a PC that costs $500? Or pay $1000 for windows when it is in reality $200? heh, bad idea I say.
While I know this project has been in the works for awhile, I am wondering, though, if it will actually do any good at the box office. I would go see it, because I would personally expect it to be good, but the world of warcraft is huge, there is so much of it I would want to see, and characters from the game I would want to see acted out that I do not think they would be able to appeal to all gamers who enjoy the world. But that is just me. I would be happy with anything I suppose.
I like the idea of being able to download DVDs legally from the studios directly. However, I would NEVER pay the same price as the normal DVD and only be able to play the movie on one machine. If I could burn it to DVD, and be able to enjoy it on my big screen LCD TV, this would be a service I would use as opposed to going to say Bestbuy or Walmart to purchase the DVD. I always thought that the Internet was supposed to supply convinence, not another thing that will cause me to NOT want to use the service because the movie could only be played on my computer. What is with that? I think the movies should be about $10 and be able to be burned once to a DVD Disc so that people can enjoy them elsewhere and not on a PC. Just my thoughts.
Even *I* as a republican cannot stand this guy. WTF is wrong with him, was he dropped on his head too many times as a baby or something? Or was he denied a magical sword in some MMORPG?
I am very happy to see Intel stepping it up in the Processor market again. Hopefully it will provide a nice environment for more competition between AMD and Intel again so another leap forward can be made in the computing world. Also, I hope they come up with a new jingle for this processor... I hate hte Pentium one. Hehe. Evil inside.
Personally, I think this probe that landed on Titan is one of the most interesting as far as Media content goes so far. I love these animals of the Radar working as the probe lands on the surface... very, very interesting. I am just hoping that the new Pulto Probe has some awesome media content once it gets there, and even the new MRO orbiting Mars. I love space... And Nasa has surprised me time and again with what they can do, especially with the rovers that have been running for 2 years on Mars. Amazing.
The only thing I wish the Titan probe returned more of was pictures of the decent and more areas on the moon as it landed.
While I am all for the spread of citywide wireless networking, I would also like to point out there are are still many places here in the U.S. that cannot even get Broadband in any way, shape, or form. I grew up in such an area near Cooperstown, NY. I am glad to see such civic projects brought to you by Google, but I would hope that someday they might reach out to the rural people as they have only dialup. It would also be nice to see this plan implemented elsewhere as well, like Albany, NY...Boston, NYC and the like. Ah well.
I am very happy to see that I will soon be able to move my character from realm to realm and be able to play with my friends so that I am not just running around hack / slashing to pass time for people to come around. Yayness.
Ajax is kinda cool but..

While I tend to agree that you need to keep your skillset up, as not to appear at the bottom of the development ladder, I must say from what we have used of AJAX here at work, it is something that I would have to recommend to any developer out there that works with web applications. However, jumping on the bandwagon and learning AJAX just because its the newest and greatest thing does seem rather stupid. Keep your skill setup by Learning to learn new and exciting things while incorporating it into work. Why learn something on your own time when it can make you more productive at work, while learning it on the job?
When I was a tech at Bestbuy 2001-2004 We were encouraged by managers to pirate software and even install it on customer computers. About time someone sued them over it. Personally I never did this, as a student of programming, how could I steal someone else's work?
While I hope I am not the only one to hope this, but I do hope that this new probe might shed some light on the possibility of life in the upper atmosphere of Venus. I seem tor ecall a few space.com astrobiology articles on how the upper astmosphere without its crushing presures and temperatures might be a cradle for micro-life. I know that Venus is not the only body in the solar system that might hold life, I guess Lo and Europa and Titan also hold the possibility with their large amounts if water, but I do hope they can spark more interest in looking into the solar system and beyond.

No I didn't know that, but thanks for the info! I will download it at home after work tonight.

Another kick to Micro$oft's M$N search... I checked out the default search engines you can use with Flock and theres no M$N. I like that.

Eh its no big deal to me. It allows me to see who else is out there, and RP more which is a good thing
