  1. Shift to Intel processors on MacWorld Keynote Announces x86 iMac & Laptop · · Score: 1

The most important bit of the keynote came near the end: "In 2006 ALL of the Apple products will move to Intel processors." So that means that even the PowerMac G5, the so called "Pro" machines, are moving to Intel processors?

Over here there is a Congressional Statement of what Carnivor "officialy" does, or is "allowed" to do. One paragraph of this statement:

Carnivore is a very effective and discriminating special purpose electronic surveillance system. Carnivore is a filtering tool which the FBI has developed to carefully, precisely, and lawfully conduct electronic surveillance of electronic communications occurring over computer networks. In particular, it enables the FBI, in compliance with the Constitution and the Federal electronic surveillance laws, to properly conduct both full communications' content interceptions and pen register and trap and trace investigations to acquire addressing information.

gives us the gist of it. So yes this very well be Carnivore in action.

I would recomend this line of backpacks by Samsonite.
It has an extra compartment for a MP3 player (with an extra gate for headphones), cell phone pocket on one of the shoulderstraps, separate compartment for notes and stuff. The laptop compartment is very well padded. The whole bag is excelently balanced, so it doesn't keep hitting your legs when you carry it around by it's handle. Really excellent.

  7. Question: how big is this problem on Mac? on Which Adware and Spyware are the Most Insidious? · · Score: 1

Is anyone aware of the extent of this problem on the Mac platform? I know that with marketshare of the Mac platform & all, the Mac isn't as interesting as the PC platform, but I can't believe that there is NO Mac ad- or spyware out there.

I've already done a few searches on the subject but can't seem to find anything. Is the problem non-existant or is nobody aware of the problem? Is this a case of safety through obscurity?

What are your experiences & opinions?

A similar article here. Bottomline, after reading the 2 articles: Adobe is very sensitive about direct competition from Apple. Adobe also fears that Apple might one day start giving away Pro applications for free, which is not entirely impossible because Apple is still mainly a hardware manufacturer. What, about 75% revenue from hardware sales?

Another reason stated in the article on Digital Video Editing is:

"But Premiere Pro is a new application in the sense that it has been completely reengineered, so the jump from Premiere 6.5 to Premiere Pro would have been far more of an investment ..."

This announcement seems to follow a consistent trend at Adobe: none of the applications in the digital video editing segment get an OS X version Encore DVD, Audition, now Premiere gets the axe, when will After Effects get the boot?

Privateer is also one of my favourites. Here was a game which let you do somthing else than just butcher your opponent. You could actually build a career in this game as a trader (well you still had to kill of the occasional pirate, but hey, I sure didn't mind). This game made me realise that not all games were about butchering off opponents. Along with:SimCity Series (anyone?). Man, hours, days, weeks, were wasted playing this game... I mean, I actually cared for my Sims... This is still one of my all time favourites: build, plan & construct in stead of kill, maim & destroy.

Pressure sensitive tablets provide more possibilities, although they are still quite simple. Then thers' the line of 3D gloves etc. which are only just emerging technologies.

Fact is that these are all devices one has to learn to work with. Only when the tools of creation become invisible, true creativity can emerge.
