Sure, a lot of people don't like Microsoft, but that's no reason to make it worse for the millions of people who are forced to use Microsoft products, especially for security holes which have yet to be exploited.
I can understand complaining about being forced to use Windows. However, no one is "forced" to use Internet Explorer, even on Windows---Mozilla is a better alternative in Windows.
Most of my family and co-workers use Mozilla, and they haven't looked back.
I'd ask if you'd found the right sort of isolated wasteland for your citadel of dread yet, but that would be a silly question; you're in Utah, after all.
Ouch!
Although this sort of ranting is useful for getting frustration off ESR's chest, it doesn't further the cause any more than DoSing the SCO site does. Reasoned, well-thought-out responses will have a lot better effect than giving Darl more ammunition for his own tirades. I think the open-source community in general has been doing a good job of keeping its responses level-headed, and we need to keep fighting the good fight.
Somehow the PhD program elevates the undergrad program?
The article's "UI" is a little confusing. It appears the first list ranks only those universities whose programs stop at the master's level. The second list ranks only those universities whose programs stop at the doctorate level.
Otherwise, it would be useless to have the two lists, because they'd probably be identical and dominated by the universities with doctorate programs.
Apple's iTunes Music Store doesn't (to my knowledge) support Canada yet, so I can't yet take advantage of it.
According to Globe and Mail, Canadian users will indeed get iTunes Music Store soon. By mid- to late-September, the CRIA will have completed negotiations to set up a framework for paying music publishers and composers whose music is downloaded on pay-for-play systems. After this, Apple can support iTMS there.
(Granted, this only tells you when Apple can start iTunes, but still, it holds promise...)
If I had 2 grand to drop on it I would buy one tomorrow. If you're at all interested in GPS units for cars you can check it out at Hertz for a few more dollars a day.
I was surfing around MacRumors and ThinkSecret today, and I hit the ThinkSecret article. The article didn't come up, and I thought ThinkSecret was down.
One big hurdle you'd have to jump through first is the "take micropayments."
From a merchant perspective, micropayments SUCKS ASS because the cost of processing such a payment is more expensive than the amount being paid. You end up with the same problem you describe, except now you are forking all the dough to the payment companies.
This is a good point. In fact, Rivest (of RSA fame) and Silvio Micali have already solved this problem. The original paper can be found here. Rivest and Micali have already started a company off of this idea.
We slashdot each other's sites!

The "PowerBooks are coming next Tuesday" rumors were more frequent on rumor sites than SCO stories on Slashdot.

...now there's a database that's going straight to Ashcroft...
I believe that would be "D!".

it's monolithic.
Ba-dum *bum*
Once it's posted to /., the dupes will ensure it never goes away!
I think NASA should instead be looking at new designs that don't contain potentially fatal flaws. 8-)
Or, you could drop $750 instead of 2 grand for the Garmin StreetPilot III...
This is an excellent point. Is there an email address to which we should send our thanks?
On top of the laptop or on the bottom?
Now I know the real reason...
Those people buy Macs.
Is this a technical term?
Yeah, I'd do the same thing if I were forced to send my engineers to visit Redmond...

Clearly, they're running their web server from the copier, too. Paper jam!
Does that mean the iLoo has gone down the toilet?
...Apple to go bankrupt this year, and FreeBSD to die.
Did anyone else read this subject and think it was a spam?
In fact, it's already been suggested: Most People Agree: Phallus is a Really Bad Name for a Browser 8-)
Dude! The first copy of Windows I'd pay money for...
