    I have two perspectives to this. One as a First Responder who managed paramedics for 13 years and one as a Machinist. First, get it cut off. When it is done any jeweler will be glad to repair it for you. Second, yes your finger will look like the others in a few months, maybe a year. You should always be able to remove your jewelry - always. God forbid that you should have to have an MRI and they cut it off then. Think of it this way: I would gladly lose a finger if it meant my grandmother would live another year, but I am the one that gets to make that decision, not her or anyone else.

    Just this last week I had an 18 yr old guy bring his brand new (less than two weeks) laptop to me. "It doesn't work" he said. "What doesn't work?" I asked "The whole thing. I called Dell they told me to put in the restore disks. It still doesn't work" "But what doesn't work?" "Nothing works, its slow, crashes and it sucks." You want *Valid* reasons? Here is one, 18year old males think Vista sucks compared to WinXP. That is valid.

    I Talked to HP support on Saturday and was told that if I wiped a Vista machine and put XP on it that I would void the warranty. What crap. They back peddled a bit when I pressed them on it and when back to "We just couldn't help you if you had a problem". Yeah, because they cant support XP anymore I guess (insert eye roll here)

    Given your UID I will believe you. Having said that though, in your current job will you let young bucks fuck with your product because they 'just know'?

    Yep it does go to extremes sometimes, but at the same time I have had Jr Know-It-All damn near crash all of my machines for dumb stuff like 'This error says reboot' - AAH!. And for the record: Yes, I would have required him or any other Jr have me or a Senior Administrator push a button on a keyboard and made him wait all day till we were there to to do it.. And for that matter put a disk into a machine FFS!! And yes, you can be on my lawn. And yes I have worked industrial too - Jr's are really that dumb and the rules need to cover *everything* for ^their^ benefit, not ours.

    The reason that Engineer walked that box with you was because some idiot of a Manager once upon a time thought he could tell a boy to toss a 2 HP motor on his back and make him hike up stairs and down stairs and over hill and dale. On a regular basis. Yeah, shocker hiking a 2 HP moter over Hill and Dale will ruin you. So they Unionized so the guy could get a cart. Guess what - he was still there as an old man, walking you and that box. Was he worth his wage when you two had a walk? Nope. (And I, a Union person just typed that) Was he worth 10x what he was paid back in the day? Yup - and now the company can pay him back, it is long past time. You got the easy end because they worked for you.

    You are soooo correct. I mean the second you Unionize you decide to do crap work. Why just **TODAY** I talked to one of our newest employees who is getting shit from his private sector friend as to why he is working so hard. He asked me about it. I said - hey, have pride in your work, even more so if you work your ass off then you get to spit in peoples eyes when they bitch about the Unions.

    Toyota is smart, because keeping unions out also increases their ability to ensure quality exists.

    except of course they do have unionized plants, that are as efficient.

    Compare GM cars with Toyota, and the results should be obvious.

    Let us instead compare Union Toyota shops and Non-Union Toyota shops -wha? HUH! No difference??? execpt for one tiny difference. The Non-Union shops get the pay they do because of the Union shops.

    ...or more realistically it ends up like the tens of thousands of cases where it was so uninteresting watching a cop just do their job that no one cared to even bother to put it on the internet. Can you even imagine the millions of hours of tape from cop dash cams that are out there that don't have a beating on them? Let alone all the wanna bes that stand and record a cop on their phone to try for internet glory and never get there.

    At what point were we writing English? I thought we were writing logic. In any event there is a form to dissect English sentences into there proper forms. It looks nothing like English either. Your all on a line code is horrible to debug because only you know where to find the breaks. The equivalent in English is dropping all of the spaces, indents and CRLF.

    He did say a name - he just didn't capitalize it. Had he meant anyone who won the election he would have said "the next president". If I ask you who the president is you do not reply with the name of the president of the Sears Corporation. This is especially true when speaking of voting and electoral votes. Now I don't necessarily think it damns the guy. He was bragging about his product to like minded people. There was a nuke missile silo that someone had written on "World-wide delivery in 30 minutes or less, or your next one is free", which is bragging and bravado - which is what I think this statement was. The part about a CEO patching machines by hand though, that gives me pause.

    I would love to use this at work but I can't trust that our users wont forget their passwords. To be able to set a second password to decrypt the content would be very nice. I know that some of the commercial products out there do just this, so I know it is possible. How they do it is a mystery, but they do.

    And yet - there is no proof of the Big Bang. Even now there are postulates for Multiple Big Bangs and even Time before the Big Bang. The Steady State Folk are getting another look these days. You honestly think that sub second physics at the Big Bang according to our current understanding explain things? Egads you are the inverse of an ID'er.

    Ages ago I was in a Unreal Tournament clan - think UT99. One of our clan elders who was an incredible ass kicker was hanging out in IRC on day. The discussion turned to where everyone lived and it came out that he lived out in the country in the very southwestern part of Virginia. Uh? we said - How did you get DSL all the way out there? I don't he said, dial up all the way. Yeah, he was an insane fragging machine on dial up. We were - are - the DAMIT clan. We ran the top end Assault server for years, and this guy was one of our best and none of us were bad.

    And in specific cases is much more expensive. Read up on renting phones in the bell days and when it finally stopped. Also read up on Microsofts Assurance program and how many companies got screwed by it.

    Yeah, all the rent-a-center places tell you that as well. Can't afford a couch? Rent it! You are right, there are two guys in queens that will be able to use this to their advantage. They, and I will laugh at the thousands that get sucked in for multiple years. Office didn't get cheaper - it still sells for the same price. What happened here is that you can now rent it for a year for only half the price of buying it.

    In all the times that I have tried it I have never seen the performance increase. Never. Multiple systems multiple networks. It was so unimpressive that I actually hadn't even thought about it until this thread. I suppose I should try it again ... but I am not going to hold m breath. Yeah, It left me that flat.

    Mod you stupid. The Bible makes no such claims. It was the work of a few guys in the 18th century that tried to add it all up = Blame men, the book makes no such claims. ID is dumb, but arguing it on their grounds only makes you as dumb as they are.
