    Gamecube may be dying over here in the west

    but nintendo have japan securely under here control and that is why they make a huge profit with gamecube while microsoft make a 33% loss on xbox

    America has a strong software business yes

    but thas because software patents benefit large corporations

    what they damage is the actual quality of software

    If we have software patents thrown out here in europe then we should start to enjoy a higher quality of software

    because software sold in europe wont have to abide by software patents so developers can use all the software methods they know of to make the best possible software without any worry of being sued or anything

    while in american you will still have software restricted because companies have to abide by patents in the design of it

    Im not a business man so im not sure if european software companies will make more money than american ones

    but on the consumer end it will be alot better in europe because out software will be free of patent restrictions

    While you have a good point

    at this point copying windows is a good idea

    simply because linux companies are trying to convert people sitting in offices behind desks

    all these people care about when converting to somthing is not needing to learn anything new otherwise they will complain about the switch

    Once linux has successfully got a decent foothold in the desktop market is when inovation will be the primary goal

    I think one of the main driving forces of the game will be finding out exactly what the hell is going on

    from sounds of it when you are droped into the game its all going to be very vague other than the fact people want to kill you

    ill want to play through the game just to find out who the director is and such

    You realise that what your saying would bankrupt all MMORPG companies

    If you know even the slightest thing about programming you will know that it is imposible to rid a program of bugs and even getting close to bug free software takes alot of time and money which is why only places like hospitals use that kind of software

    so they cannot stop things like this

    and they cannot give the items back because if they do so then they will get thousands of people yelling "i lost my uber sword of killing give me a new one" and they will be forced to do so because they gave the other guy his stuff back

    the best example of why its in place is the Netscape vs IE affair

    IE beat netscape for one reason and one reason only - it was packaged with windows

    that is using a monopoly to dominate a market
    because most people will use what comes with there computer rather than the better product

    yep

    thats how the law works

    there quite free to compete in other markets the way everyone else does by selling it in shops or putting it up for download. They could even ship WMP with a linux distribution if they really wanted to

    they just cant bundle it with there monopoly products - windows and office

    because that is using there monopoly to enter another market which is illegal

    they cant do anything about that

    its not illegal for MS to have there office monopoly

    its illegal for them to leverage that monopoly to try and gain a monopoly in media players

    thats why they take action against the media player and not office

    however GTA does not have the same sort of competition halo is facing

    there are very few games that are at all like GTA and none that really follow the same exact theme

    however Halo is facing up against HL2 Doom3 Tron 2.0 DeusEx 2 and more
    being 2 years old i think it will probably get vastly outclassed and depend upon its reputation from the Xbox for sales

    ill probably buy it but i think i will be waiting for its price to go down a bit before i do so
