    I agree with the not trusting Microsoft issue. Microsofts biggest security problem is all the illegal Windows installations in private home. I hear a lot of people saying that they don't use automatic updates in Windows because they are afraid that Microsoft will find them.

    It wasn't a bird of fire, it was a bird who burned (Not that this makes it any better) and rose from the ashes.

    That may not be such a bad name, ESA previous worked on a shuttle called Hermes, which where cancelled many years ago. Maybe they used parts of the Hermes design for Phoenix?

    I just recall hearing something about Mad Hatter being killed of and Red Hat becoming Suns Linux supplier. Must have hear wrong.

    It is not nice, but you got a point. Some of us have ideas of how to make money of Open Source, but we're telling people.

    I'll give you a hint, Open Source is customer power. We need to learn our customers that they should never buy software they don't have the source code for. If you have the code your in control. I think that is what Open Source is all about and once people learn that we win.

    I don't try to avoid it. I try to avoid BIND and its zone files, but not DNS configuration. I got my first DNS setup right the first time... but my testing of it was wrong, so I didn't notice. If you can tolerate Bernstein djbdns make DNS setup very easy. BIND is just stupid. Don't get me wrong, BIND works, I just think it makes things look more complicated than they really are.

    I would say easy to setup, insecure and fun. (Note that things doesn't have to be insecure to be fun)

    I would hate not having my CPR number (Danish Social Security Number). It make identification so much easier, I only wish I could use it for more things.

    I never hear of anyone having their CPR number misused. Try to remember that it's just a easier way of identification and NOT a tracking device inserted up your ass. Your more like to be tracked when you use your VISA card than by having a SSN. I'm sure Wal-Mart knows more about most Americans than the US government does.

    Why are Americans so much more paranoid than other people? Have your government really screwed over that many times? If you can't trust your government you have a problem. Please do something about it.

    About the whole spam think. Why is it that people won't look to Denmark. We have the solution. Spam in any form is banned and have been for many years. You are not allowed to call people, knock on their door, sending mail and sms, with the purpose of selling them something. This is all covered by one law, originally made to stop door to door sallsmen.

    People have already been find for email spam and a trial on sms spam is in progress.

    PDF i actually pretty much just as open as postscript is. Postscript is owned by Adobe as well. If you want to use pdf in your applications Adobe allows you to use a lot of their pantents for free. You can download complete specifications for the pdf format for Adobes website. Thats why you see pdf readers and writers available on pretty much any platform. The least Microsoft could do is publish the specifications for the Word filformat, giving us a chance to open .doc files.

    I think I would prefer if they hosted the content them self. I wouldn't be to happy about paying to download stuff from a network where I can't be sure to get the whole file. I don't think p2p i to great for distributing stuff that people have to pay for.

    I'm not sure that online banks will use it. My bank published their goal for their only banking two years ago. First target was Mac users. The year after they specificly tried to target Linux / Unix users. I case your wondering, yes I love my bank. Their solution is almost 100% platform independent. If it has ssl and Java they support it. I don't think there is a chance of them going for a Windows only solution anytime soon.

    Not all banks suck :-)

    This works great, I do volunteer system administration and we use something similar. However what ever runs the NAT'ing (most likely your firewall) most be able to handle the traffic. Also if the NAT box crashe you lose everything at once.

    I wonder how many of the people who downloaded Kazaa a using it for legal purposes. Peer 2 Peer is a great idea, to bad so many misuse it.

    I think the number of Kazaa download just tells us that there are more criminals than we think.

    Why is that every has to be integrated into phones? I don't like phone, I don't like talking to people on the phone. If people want to talk to me they can write me an email and arrange a meeting.

    My friends have learn (most of them anyway) that I answer emails faster than phone calls. Phones a so intrusive. Emails let me answer people when I have the time. When people call you they almost always seem to think that you have the time to talk to them. SMS is okay, except that phonepads wheren't really designed to write messages on. I would prefer a PDA with internet connection.

    Why should you install Windows and install all kinds of Unix stuff on top of it? Migth as well install Linux / BSD / etc if you're not planning on using Windows for anything else than a platform to install Unix tools on.

    Belive it or not, some of us actually feel that Windows is slowing us down in our work. I don't hate Windows, I just hate using it.

    How is that different from Open Source software ? With a bit of luck you might make a few buck of your software, but most likely not. If your really good Redhat (or others) will make money of your software?

    Why should programmers be the only people in the world who wants to give stuff away? If I like a project I might donate money, hardware or my own skills. If I like a musician I might go to a concert or actually buy a CD. I don't see the difference between software and music. Well except even Microsoft isn't as evil as the record industry. I mean these people makes Stalin look like a nice guy. I have a huge respect for good musicians and belive at they deserve to get paid, but not as long as they work with the big rcord companies. I think most people makes illegal copies of music because the like the artist but hates their record company. Open Source music could be a way around the record companies. I doubt that any of the major artist will join though.

    Stop buying music and stop making illegal copies of music, that will show the record industry that they need to make some changes.

    Could someone please tell me what Americans are so afraid of? Why do you put up with the government invading your privacy? The US have gone to war to liberate other nations from government which have done similar thing (Not on the same level of cause and with less advanced tecnologies). Why are you letting them do this to you?

    I don't get it, the US is suppose to be the land of the free, isn't it ?

    Ah yes, a wonderful window manager. Stil has a few bug and the development seems to have stop. Once you get use to EvilWM you hardly ever uses the mouse, just like it should be.

    Personally I never liked the desktop environments. Gnome and KDE are big and slow, at least on my old laptop. They also use a lot of screen space on eye candy. However most people will never feel at home in WMs like EvilWM or RatPoisen. They where never meant to be the thing that would attract the avarage computer user. Would your mom use KDE or EvilWM ? Let us remember next time some moron suggest making a standard interface for Linux (*nix) that most of us love it because we can choose the environment that aid us best in our work.

    KDE and Gnome are great because they make it easier for me to move my users from Windows to Linux, which is easier to administrate. And I win again :-)

    They are made for Phoenix, but very well suited for Firebird as well. Looks like a bird on fire.

    This should be standard in Firebird

    Image resizing is amazingly annoying, especially when using low-res monitors

    You should call the police. Tells the boss that you're going to call the police, don't let him (or her) talk you out of it. In the long run you might lose your job, but you'll know that you did the right thing. You very easily end up thinking about whether or not you did the right thing or knowing that the person who commited the crime didn't get the appropriate punishment.

    A clean conscience is more important than the best paying job in the world.

    No where does it say that a "real" i686 must have cmov, the compiler should check for cmov before using it. I wasn't talking about removing cmov completly, simply have the option of exclude the use of it when I compile things my self.

    Naturally it should affect other i686 users, that would be dumb.

    I think IBM is collection patents SCO violate. IBM has tons of patents They could most likely claim that every computer company in the world is violating at least one of their patents. These are the people who made Sun pay 20 millions for violating patents without actually showing them the patents. This was on Slashdot a few months ago.

    Personally it believe that when IBMs reaction finally comes, SCO is going to be a very dead company and IBM can go in a pick up the pieces they want. This was a very stupid move for SCO. I don't know if it's fair or not, but you don't mess with IBM.
