If you were a parent I'm sure you will feel safer if your children had a GB instead of a PS of XBox just because are "safe for him"... You don't wan't your 5 year just playing 3d shooters. of playing boley ball with mostly naked girls.
The inovative point about Metroid Prime is that they succesfully translated a 2D game in to the 3d world mantaining it's roots!
Most games fail at this, it's very difficult to transform 2D platformes in to the 3d world. I for once DON'T like 3d Games. I stay playing my SNES (Super Metroid), Saturn (Radian Silver Gun, Megaman, Dracula X, Metal Slug, Stree fighters, etc.) and DreamCast (Bangai-o, ikaruga, mars matrix).
There are a feew 3D games that I do like like Metroid Prime and Wolfestein Enem. Territory on the PC
You are forgeting about the rest of the wold. I for one have seen in Mexico How 95% of more of the games sold in retail are CDR. They are mass produced and each PSX game is sold for about $2 usd.
Nintendo knowing about piracy problems decided against using standard media because of logical piracy problems. If you search for N64 games in Mexico again you will find that most of them are original! some of them been cheap jap imports. But is just not as easy or cheap to duplicate they games.
My two cents...
DVD Players are now so sheap... you can buy one for about $39 at walmart.
And I don't think it's a good idea to put a DVD player in your childrens room (they will watch "Toy Stoy every day up until 4am in the morning
Using TV as a way of controling your children is not a good idea and you should not use it as your nany. Get a real one.

The thendency now is to develop everything with a WEB front end but why???
I'm fairly sure you don't need your accounting program with web interface and don't forget that inventory program developed with ASP ??

Some interfaces are just ackward if they are implemented as web applications.
Please STOP trying to write everysingle thing for the web. Only a small percentage of applications benefit from it.
Even for applications where you realy need to show web result to your clients... they can be just "REPORTING and CONSULTING" addons to your application not the hole fundation of it!
First of all any decent troyan will change it's metadata in the SQL system so It shows as an old file in your system.
Second the only part where I can se any point on having SQL as backend for a filesystem is for global searches over the hole system (ej. locate me all.mp3)
But then again if you are smart enouch you can put all your files in an order..

I don't think the solution is to replace the filesystem but to write BETTER networking code.
As a matter of fact I think adding an extra layer to the filesystem only means more overhead, performance and CPU cicles lost!
The only that you need is a good and fast btree system in your partition table.
I think the problem with NT is not realy it's ability locate sertain data but they way it transfers to the requesting client.

Now I'm finding out that I realy don't like the new games. I like side scrollers ans 2d shooters. And a lot of people think like me. Just go to ebay and try to get "Radiant Silver Gun" is runing now for about 200usd a copy. This is a "Sega Saturn Game".

/etc.init.d/smb status
/etc.init.d/network restart
in scripts:
if X'/etc/init.d/httpd status' -eq X"DOWN" then /etc/init.d/httpd restart
fi
and so fort. Of course you can allways go and use ps + grep + kill + (depending daemon, program pars, etc) to do this tasks but is so much clean to use Sys V scripts. And standard in all scripts.
Add now that you don't have to know exactly how to exit cleanly an application you know that/etc/init.d/ stop will do fine. This is the case of database servers.
I'm not saying that BSD init (Slackware) is bad is just more primitive and less "clean".
Back in '93 or '95 I just to use Slackware for every thing but then I realized how difficult is to realy UPGRADE a Slackware system (I think grat advances have been made in this respect with new aditions to the pkg system). And they I fell in love with sys V init scripts. That now I don't seem to like anything with out it.

Debian and RedHat are very good for production servers and is fairly easy to uptade them and keep them current.

One of the things that makes cagers more dangerous are they cell phones. I seriously hope they become illegal in the hayway.
