I'm interested to see how their standards of quality hold out. Certainly, Blizzard and Blizzard North are two seperate entities, but I wonder if any titles currently under development with Blizzard North get transferred to Blizzard?
Looking at the process monitor, I see a tag for "%Nice". It is at zero. I have 2 questions...
1) Where is the %Evil tag?
2) Is it properly registering 100?
...which it couldn't, IMHO, due to the... tenacity...of the spam community, I still think people would take issues with the proposed "1 hour delay". There are plenty of times when a company will send you an e-mail while you're on the phone with them (for example, RMA requests for damaged equipment), or perhaps you've forgotten the password to a particular news site and need to have it sent to you. Having to wait an hour for something that used to be near instantaneous is a less than ideal solution. My vote's for an overhaul of STMP. We'll be better off in the long run.
All cynical comments about big corporations aside, it actually makes sense...basically, (from what I gathered) the UK government's proposed regulation would require that any software developed for the government be released under the GPL. This would mean that if a company wanted that big government contract, they would have to release, for free, software they could sell repeatedly otherwise. Essentially, it'd be a one time sale.

I'm not trying to be a troll; this is a legitimate question...why is this a big deal? I've been able to use Gaim or Trillian for a long time now to do the same thing. Is it because the owner of the two protocols are finally making them compatible without any outside "trickery"?
First, let me just say that I am fully against SCO and their claims that Linux ripped off their code. I think its far more likely that the opposite is true.
However, on the off chance that it is true, there's nothing that specifically says that it's merely 80 lines of code...that's simply all SCO, in their infinite wisdom, has deigned to give our lowly linux developers. (whatever)
Why should I pay an extra $4.25 plus shipping for something that should have been included in the design? There was no reason it should have been taken out in the first place. (Don't give me the "There was no room for it" quote, I read the article.)
Thats ridiculous. You increase the cabinet size to give people something that is regularly used. The only reason I haven't bought one is because of that. Now I have to wait for the next version (SP2, I think), and I wonder how many people who bought the SP are also going to fork over more cash just for that specific feature?
Yes, the SP finally gives us what people have wanted since the original Game Boy- a backlit screen. So Why, oh WHY did they leave out the HEADPHONE JACK this time? Leave it to Nintendo to take a potentially perfect system and give it a near fatal flaw.:-P
Why is being scared a negative effect? When you go out to see a scary movie, aren't you expecting or hoping for the film to get your heart pounding? When you read a ghost story, aren't you shooting for a little unease? Why should games be any different? Walking down a dark corridor, turning a corner and running smack into a demon/nazi/whatever, if it's done properly in game, can certainly shock the hell out of you. Then the after effect of the adrenaline rush after you kill the baddie is almost a "high". I think being scared by a game is a good thing.
I played this adventure game for the first time on an old Cyrix box I had (before I knew the evil that is Cyrix) called "Phantasmagoria". It was and incredibally creepy ghost story all the way through, very suspensful with a haunting soundtrack, and got really gory in the last chapter. I remember playing late at night (of course), and not wanting to stop, more out of fear of going to bed than anything else.
Isn't this the same state that has the Orwellian policy of requiring ISPs to block access to certain websites, yet won't release that list to the public?
Some world leader.
...that's great, but that's not what the article was talking about. It was referring to a chemical that told the plant to prepare for lots of sunlight, not that it had been alive for too long and should shrivel up and die.
Gentoo is a little complex to set up, but they have EXCELLENT step by step user guides for getting everything on your system working...audio, 3d acceleration, USB, everything. The people on the support forums are superb, and I have never seen a more helpful bunch.
Gentoo is what I learned on. When you're done setting up a gentoo system, you know exactly what you have on your system and WHY it's there.
"...no signs of a direct threat."
Yeah, nothing at all. Well, except for it's repeated refusal to now comply with UN weapons resolutions it agreed to years ago...apparently only to buy time for themselves once they saw there was no way to win the Gulf War.
Yeah, there's no threat from Iraq. Well, no threat to the US, but maybe just a bit of a threat to Iraq's neighbor, Iran, who has been poison gassed repeatedly using chemical weapons banned by the above mentioned weapons treaties. Indeed, Saddam has gassed his own people with nerve toxins.
Sure, Iraq may not be a direct MILITARY threat to us...we proved that back during Desert Storm. But he is certainly a direct threat to our way of life, one way being that he more or less controls the flow of a great deal of oil out of the arab states. (please leave out comments about our way of life being one of conquest and other nonsense.) And even if we didn't need his oil, the disgusting crimes against humanity that he is perpetrating cannot be allowed to continue. So why is it that the French were so glad to recieve our aid when THEY needed it, but now are so unwilling to help us aid another country that needs our help?

Except I don't have access to the mail server to set that limit. This is supposed to be implemented at the ISP level, from what I understand.

What if it was your e-mail that was a false-positive?
SMTP. That's what I get for not previewing.
durn lack of "edit" function

Haven't you heard that song by loverboy?
"Doot-n Doot-n Pig and Elephant DNAAAA....just wooon't spliiice!!!"

Replying to own post, I know....here's the link for those who weren't reading /. yesterday:

That may be, but I think it's more a matter of convenience for them. They don't want to get involved so they cite a difference of opinion.
