From what I understand, the communication with nerves not only have to be bi-directional but also we arn't sure what other signals are sent (chemical, etc). We can detect the messages to muscles as those are VERY simple and only require small electrical detectors. Decoding a straight nerve seems still seems beyond our reach.
Mind you, this is much better than before. Previous robotic arms are built this same way, but it takes months and months of training to use your chest muscles to move your arm. Now it looks like you don't need that much therapy since they rout your arm nerves to your chest.
PS - I am no expert, I just looked into it a bit ago when I met someone with a claw hand.
Sounds like a great reason to locate a data center in Texas.
I know your making a joke, but truth to that. Any data center I see downtown Dallas usually always has an armed guard. There are quite a few places that not only are hard to find, but have MANY man traps. Hell, the one I know that only has one warm body at night carry's a damn gun with him. AND HE IS THE ENGINEER ON SITE.
I know I sound like some NRA nut, but I look at the amount of violence in Dallas vs Chicago, it doesn't seem like the gun laws work. Then again, violent crime in Dallas is going up:P
All they do is make Halo and even then we wait a YEAR for the PC release.
There is no excuse for that other than to squeaze as much as they can in the 360 market. I just wonder if they will be given the same freedom as an "independent"
PCI-X? REALLY? That guy is holding up as a PCIe x1, thats easy 500MB a second. Why the hell go to PCI-X when you can go to just 4x and get 2x the speed of a PCI-X 133mhz.
Hell, do you even SEE servers with PCI-X slots? I know Dell doesn't sell them new unless the customer asks for it. Even then its using a converter chip from PCIe to PCI-X.
But to be honest, I really don't see anyone using this thing on a database. The useal answers are read/writes, price and size. What people don't know is that many storage systems are self monitoring beasts. How good, for the enterprise, is this software going to be? Will it use a kernel driver? Does it offer a bios emulation mode to even see it under dos? I am all for database performance, but I don't see it any better than a RamSan. Heh, I just noticed they offer an all flash product. Funny that.
Not fond of the The Planet myself. I know people who work there and been there a few times. Its kind of a dumping ground of IT workers who just got their cirts and leave in 6 months. (Heard of a 50% turn over rate at one time for techs) Though I do hear their service is reliable.
Same reason I always get the "phone company" DSL. I never trusted the resalers of internet when it was prevelenet.
My biggest problem is the draconian copy protection though. First it downloads and updates SecureRom. Then it Authenticates with an internet server. So this means you can't even PLAY the damn thing without internet access. Then I heard a roomer that you could only register the software twice, THEN have to call this number to get a new key.
Sadly, I agree with these draconian systems. So far the game hasn't been cracked (or atleast a crack posted on the torrent sites) in the all important week of release. Lets face it, this is a single player game and it would suffer the same fate as Dreamfall (lackluster sales; rampent piracy) when it was released.
If you go into the bar where the 1959 party was being held and listen to the voice recording by the big "1959" neon thing, listen to what the people are chanting in the background. Then look at your radio.
Saw that one when working. Gezz, you could see those Acetylene canisters fly. People stopped, ran from their cars just amazing. All started with a faulting line filling the smaller tanks too.
When I saw the new DS Pokimon game out, I thought it was crap. Its not like they even bother to inovate. I thought it would tank hard. br.
I guess it is true, if you live and work with the 8-14 year old demographic, it never gets old:P
The fact of the matter is they need some GOOD exclusive to bring this system from near death. Sure its a Blue-Ray movie player, cheaper than normal players even, but its supposed to be a game system first. As it stands now, most games I want to play have cross platform with the 360 or the PC, so why bother with the PS3 in the US?
Jack goes on to remind readers there are 15 PS3 games coming from internal studios by the end of the year and over 100 total (including third=party).
...and how many of them are cross platform? Meh. PS3 is doing well in other countries only because Microsoft never localizes well.
Agreed. Whats the freaking point? The article is a fluff piece as it doesn't even describe what, if any, the problems they had to overcome. I rather have it explain WHY the hotel customer network was safer than there internal network than just it be said:P
After reading the article, its more about a "wall of tech support" than the screen problem.
"I'm so tired of dealing with Apple at this point," writes one anonymous poster, "that I don't have the energy or time to continue even though they've done everything they possibly could."
I mean, what else CAN you do when even support tells you to "take the refund":P
Linus says "You know what, GPL3 is where I like it, so 2.8 is going to be it"
Heck, what about GNU? Can't have linux without GCC or the lib. Unless Novel wants to fully fork their distro, they don't have much of a choice. Someone is going to use GPL3.
As you can see in the section I highlighted, the minute someone turns in a voucher after GPLv3 is in effect, Microsoft will be granting a patent license to everyone, not just Novell's paying customers: "the patent license you grant is automatically extended to all recipients of the covered work and works based on it". Voila. I hope your PHB understands this.
Will anyone enter into such a deal with Microsoft now? Doesn't this explain why Microsoft suddenly began talking publicly about patents and wanting folks to hurry up and enter into patent peace agreements fast? Will anyone buy SUSE for a patent peace, if they know the patent peace is shortly to be available to the world and his penguin? Novell, by the lack of retroactivity, gets to stay in business. But it loses its "we are the only ones that are not threatened by Microsoft's patents" standing. It can still differentiate itself in the market in other ways, the interoperability angle, which is fine.
But..why? Just to stir up FUD and to have it all unravil? Hell, is GPL3 in its "Final" final draft? What was the point of microsoft spending all this money to Novell? Or was it the other way around. Arg. Even I am confused now.
I think the lawmaker who thought this up just didn't know how these things worked. Hell, look at this nugget.
According to audio recordings of legislative proceedings, not a single legislator openly questioned the legitimacy, constitutionality or cost of the innocuous-sounding bill, despite written warnings from legislative analysts that it faced a "high probability" of being overturned in court.
From TFA. They didn't even include the financial estmates on how much the lawsuits would cost:P Its not even just THIS pile of joy. Look at the other "trademark" bill. Why the hell would a company want to pay $250 to trademark itself in Utah for just the internet? Why the hell trademark your stuff in just Utah when the FEDERAL copyright office gives you the same rights? I don't remember where, but didn't the supreme court affirm trademarks work on the internet? Does Utah think they have a "Utah Internet"?
I always thought Utah was a bit religious, but freaking naive?
Wireless phones are set up that when you call 911, the tower knows what 911 local provider to use.
There isn't an easy "automatic" way to do that in VOIP, but 911 is just a forwarding number anyway. Why you just give them (At&t) your home address, they find the proper police dispatcher number for your area and just link it to your account? Is it THAT hard?
I don't care either way. I used to use VOIP, but then I found I juse my cell phone more anyway.
Sure, then they start using "points" to win "prizes"
Look at the money in Dave and Busters. They have some high end prizes there just for tickets. Sure they have no "cash" value, but I can see some people in counter strike getting enough points to buy that iPod or TV.
Hell, in a way, there is more money in doing that. You buy points and never give them cash back:P Like those damn gift cards.

Not sure about thermite though. It was the first thing I thought of too, but lets say your on a raised floor, or you don't want to cause a fire:P
Seriously, like some kind of bullet that shoots the hard drive (Maybe 22round, aimed toward the ground) and can be activated at a press of a button?

"Vote once, count many!"
I did a call over at the old SBC building in Fort Worth. You should see their back up batterys.
They are just big vats of acid in thick glass jars with electrodes. All sorts of acid warrning sticks around the building too.
Dallas explosion injures 3, snarls traffic
(Sorry about the link, Dallas News is just WAY to heavy in adds)
Saw that one when working. Gezz, you could see those Acetylene canisters fly. People stopped, ran from their cars just amazing. All started with a faulting line filling the smaller tanks too.
Better yet, I wonder if it works with PornTube.com?
When I saw the new DS Pokimon game out, I thought it was crap. Its not like they even bother to inovate. I thought it would tank hard.

Marriott a sponsor of Slashdot?
I mean, what else CAN you do when even support tells you to "take the refund":P
So...they going to sue Paramount because its not "moving pictures" but 24 still images a second?
Why aren't they going after LCD manufactures?
Meh. I got to start using Plain text and preview more often.
