Sadly, I think its likely a big chain bought it and will only advertise for them. Be nice if there was something to keep track of all the local places.
That was a STEAL. Just think of the marketing budget of any of the standard delivery places (Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, etc). This is not even a blip on that radar.
I just hope it was a pizza place. God help us all if it was a porn company.
That makes sense. I mean all you have to do is go to Fry's and you find 10 different manufactures producing the same kind of reader for the same price. I always wondered how they even make margins.
If they are all using the same design with a different plastic box, it makes sense. Still, I would think somone is getting paid for the IP and/or patent for the multi USB adapter. At least in the states.
God don't get me started on that. When I worked for Stream support on a Dell "first time responders" contract, the Dell person DRILLED into us that they are never going to make a sub $1000 computer because they are focused on "quality"
I bought it hook line and sinker. I mean, this was back in 98. We got free OEM copies of Windows 98, Dell stock kept going up and up, why not believe them:P
Guy made Tetris and no money of of it because of a government run monopoly at the time. I mean hell, he properly views FOSS as the same thing. You create something, give it away and you starve in an ally behind a crack house. In his case, a Yugo:P
I tend to think the idea of FOSS is more of a generation gap than anything.
I am kind of interested to see what Microsoft will do if they do buy them out. All the 'technology' that Yahoo has is on close to 20,000+ servers, most of witch running copy's of RedHat and FreeBSD. Are going to change ALL the systems to a copy of 2008 or look like an idiot that their OS can't keep up?
Really reminds me of when 3dfx, flush with cash, bought out STB. Having no experience in the OEM market, then losing all its STB oem clients and running both company's to the ground with reorganizations. We can only hope:P
I hate it when people tell me this. They have dropped WAY to much effort into the whole 6950 and SC1435 lines. Hell, the new 2970's are out if not already.
My personal opinion is that they still need to be fleshed out though. I am not sure why, but all the AMD systems we have only accept DDR2 unbuffered as well has having issues with very large amounts of ram ( More than 64gigs). I will admit however, they use ALLOT less power and much quieter.
I took ONE summer job as a kid at an IT shop and all they had me do is repair printers, pull dot matrix print heads to be refurbished, and make sure fixers work. I didn't know squat (I seriously think they were trying to fire me), but I learned how much I hated repairing printers.
Now EVEY job I mention this little bit of fact, the first thing they have me do is printer calls. Of course, I MUST mention my previous experience as it usually gets my foot in the door.
To be honest, I doubt its the gasoline prices. Allot of arcades over in Japan are usually within walking distance of schools and residental areas. They are just freakishly expensive.
The thing takes 500 Yen. Thats a little more than $4.50 a GAME. Oh and you can't just play it once, you have to play it multipal times to raise your skill so you can get better mechs. Sure it was networked and you could play with other people in pods, but games like this make the PS3 look like a worthy investment.
If they made the games cheaper, I think arcades can last longer there. But I doubt it as most of these "pod" like machines are pricey as it is.

Ordered mine last November and still haven't got it. Getting worried too as the email they sent said it be in before the 15th of this month and the website doesn't seem to do anything when I put my confirm number in....
I want to play with the damn thing:P Maybe I will look into getting a a Zipit 2z. I have the first generation and the second one looks very nice.
Reminds me when a friend of mine got on Everquest when it first started. Back then, the only real thing of substance you could make was banded mail. This was only a few months in the game, but him and all the others who focused on this market "managed it"
That is it only took close to 5 gold of materials to make it, but they made SURE it would sell for more than 20+ gold. He made several charaters and learned the best methods of bumping up your skill to 200 to make the stuff.
It started crashing down after a month or two when more people got high enough to make the armor. Since there wasn't anything higher than banded and technicaly anyone could get the skill there was no way to keep the monopoly. Just wasn't fun anymore so he stopped playing.
Some times I think the "bind to pickup" needs to be removed. I understand why it was introduced, but ask somone farming an instance for an epic to see how "fun" it really is.
Maybe because of the fact that some drives use both 5v and 12v. Or that the 3.3v (does any drive use that yet?) was needed
To be honest, I don't even see if its possible for internal drives 3.5. Most of those drives use upwards of an amp off the 12v, and pushing 12watts down a little sata cable sounds like it would cause interference. Heck, it also means we have to add yet another 12v rail to the motherboard to support the power. It would be nice, however, for it on the eSATA connector. But thats the only time I would say it would be that useful.
Sorry if my spelling is off, but I am typing this from my phone.
When I was working for a used computer resaler, I created a program that would read the Texas license strip. They wanted a quicker way to record license information when they did trade-ins.
Anyway, I don'T know if its standard, but you need a three stripe card reader. One swipe gives you a formated view of everything printed on the license. A two stripe will wrk but you don't get the zip code and, if I remember correctly, weight height and eye color.
Thing was buggy as hell and all it could do is print on a dot maxtrix the triplicate form they needed.
It did, believe it or not, but it required the NetBIOS stack. Maybe my memory was bulury, but I seem to remember it having problems when you installed the TCIP pack from Microsoft.
I wonder if you can even call it a network game on a non-routeable protocol.
Currently, LTO4 supports 1.6TB/800GB. The plain drives go for close to 5k and the media runs at about 80-90 bucks a pop. I figure it will cost about that initially and need a high end SAS or Fiber connection. Did I mention that an LTO4 can write at close to 100-150MB/s (not counting compression). Fastest a DVD can write at is about 20-30MB/s. Thats one LOONG backup.
Hell, look on eBay for a PV132T with an LTO2. You can get that library for under $1,500 and it holds close to 4.8TB uncompressed. Even if you want the warranty for it, its still going to be cheaper than when this thing comes out. Did i mention the media is only 10 cents a gig?
Look at the games or the mega release just this year. All the innovation, the spectacular graphics. The new ideas in gameplay (Portal, Timeshift, etc). What the hell can Duke Nuke offer? Serious Sam has the crappy "Kill everything that moves" so what space will Duke Nuke offer with a one dimensional character and "wacky" characters?
Hell, even when Doom 3 came out, it had the novity factor of being to powerful for the systems of the day. What will Duke bring to the table?
God I am sorry. He was an idiot in that case. Sigh. I used to think it was just the computer techs that have this kind of inconsistency with repairs. Discovered recently its the same with auto mechanics. Knowing that, it does make me wonder if its ever posable to have good consistent service:P
I hate to say it, Unisys contractors are basically "Hands of Dell" Your supposed to immediately call Dell and have them walk you though what your supposed to do. The problem I have seen, is that most of the guys we have just do what they are told. If they are told that a KVM module in a 1655MC is hot-swappable then it gets swapped. If ANOTHER day they are told it isn't, its not swapped and tells the customer they have to turn off the blade chassis to swap it.
Its kind of sad. I just got into the habit of replacing all parts on the off chance there is a short then diagnosing before I call Dell. If there is "data" involved I DON'T call dell unless there is a 90% chance of loss of data. (Say what you will about the PERC4 and 5, your data is not lost unless you do something stupid like click the "initialize" option or force online within the operating system) Its not that Dell doesn't care, its just there is a 1/3 chance I will get an inexperienced tech.
To be honest, I really have no problem with the hardware aspect of the equipment. But its making me think of what HP support (and pay) is like:P
I work on their servers, they all run either FreeBSD or RedHat. (FYI those were the only choices as of a year ago in PXE reimage boots) Its not like they have many robust other hosting choices
Its good that they are support Apache, but really, they should of just did a joint statment with Goggle when they signed on. Sounds to much like a one-up manship.
That would be great!
Sadly, I think its likely a big chain bought it and will only advertise for them. Be nice if there was something to keep track of all the local places.

http://www.phantom.net/
GOD they still exist. But their SSL cert is expired as of last August. So now, they are a keyboard company?
Marketing department? God I know. That site is horrible.
A better review is here
It looks like they are caring about the hacker community. Whats cool about it is not only does it support Wifi but SMS messaging.

So practicing law turns out to be lots of making sure stupid people don't sue you.
You should put that as part of your sig. Would explain your disclaimer:)

I remember how Fry's discounted the dang thing to 14.98. The Fools.
Nah not just porn
Second Life AND porn:)
