Consider that for one thing, this will almost definitely be a dual mode cell phone, capable of switching quickly between Cellular Mode and Optical Mode.
Additionally, the DoD has more experience then just about anyone in the world with getting long range optical systems to work correctly, can you say, Laser Guided Bomb? I knew you could.
For a group dedicated to the chronicalling the advancement of technology, there are sure a lot of disbelievers gathered here.
What a bunch of BS...and I'm not talking college degrees here. They are just trying to offer-up some positive spin on this whole episode to make it look like they aren't going the way of WorldCom.
Live your dreams!!

This is the start of it. Years have gone by while we worked our way to this point. Some visionaries have pointed that this is our future in film, book and popular media.
The foundation of that future is now being created though. Not by the government, doctors, priests or the military, but rather in the homes, offices and studios of today's premier geeks.
Programmers with the skill to creature an enduring world and the backing to bring that world to life are the creators of societies newest niche.
You may not think that mmorpg's and other online enduring games will be that big. But just wait until generations grow up with them instead of being introduced to them.
Will it be a good change? A bad change? Time will tell, but if you are going to be realistic, you have to know that this will create change.
You can choose to not believe me if you wish, but that means in 30 years, I get to say, "I told you so."
What are the chances I'll ever step foot in a Radio Shack? They could start giving me their home address and phone number, but unless she's cute, I'm still not shopping at Radio Shack.
There are a lot of reasons why Dell is the best company to go through for Laptops:
Unbeatable warranty and service, up to 5 years next business day on-site with complete care accident coverage. If you don't warranty your mobile computer thoroughly, you're not being realistic.
Unbeatable parts, ATI Radeon 9000, up to 1gb ram, mobile pIV 2.2gz, and most importantly of all, the 15.0" UXGA Ultra Sharp (meaning it uses ASV technology for unsurpassed clarity and field of view).
Competitive prices...especially when you start adding in the warranty and service. If you don't think your portable computer will break, you've obviously not worked on portable computers much.
You can spout whatever you want about IBM, Alienware, Sony...you name it. For a total package and in the case of portable performance, you can't beat Dell's. Especially when it comes time for service.
If I lost my home network in a fire, the data is the last thing I'd worry about losing. But assuming I still have a house and a network to use my data with...I would just skip backups and go with full reinstall/recreate, more fun that way.
Al Gore! After all, he invented the internet, right?
And God said (insert congressional notes here), and then there was bandwidth!
In regards to the games references...

When will people realize that as a society and a species, we are driven by our need to entertain ourselves?
News, TV, Movies, Sports, Games...most all consumer products in some way pander to our need to make ourselves happy and distract us from the day to day.
Face it folks...immersive games are here to stay. They are the electronic crack of the 21st century.
...but being unrealistic isn't one of them. They know what their products are like and they know the golden rule, "You don't have to have the best product to win the product wars."
Beta vs. VHS...Zip drives vs. Jazz drives...etc, etc.

I hear there are aftermarket plans to convert it to beta/8-track formats...l33t g34r
How the porn industry will exploit these changes. Whole new meaning to "phone sex".
Could make a TON of money by selling rides into space to both NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys.
Then they could make several times more then that by accepting donations to leave them there.
There's hope for Michael Jackson's face even still...

Personally...I think they should change the title, "Return of the King". It's an afront to Elvis, the King never died, he doesn't have to return.
...and pretend I'm old school l33t.

Actually...Apple makes great portable computers.
But what does that have to do portables that can be a viable gaming platform?
The answer? Nothing

I tore the label off my mattress in protest, so that should help.
Seriously though...they were screwed, Steve Jackson screwed...that's just wrong.
Those select few who are in the beta test for SWG. I mean sure, there are about 3000 in the test, but how many signed up? 100,000?
ditch your user account
...whatever...
This from someone without the @#%!'s to even log in?
That software like this continues to be used by anyone. I mean really...why? Let go of the past, ditch Pine.

Bah...fine, Amiga vs. any "comparable" product of it's time.
The point remains though, you don't have to have the best product to be Number One.

But until Linux has more n00b friendly versions, it's not going to work that well.
...if they'll ever figure out that we all came to the net to get away from commercials?
Tasteful banner ads for online porn! Afterall, it's still the online money making king.
