I would think that translating a language would be one of the hardest parts of localization (PAL -vs NTSC is just a mostly a hardware issue, right?). I guess translating from English to "Queen's English" is too bloody hard for them? Maybe its the whole metric to english and back to metric thing that is throwing them off? I mean in the Japanese version the steering wheels are already on the right, correct?
First they drop the online mode, now this? Crazy. Its like they are trying to piss people off.
I mean, it's no secret that downloaded software ran under admin privilegies can do basically whatever it wish to your system, regardless if it's a Mac or not.
my account on my mac is an admin account. when i download a program and run it, if it is going to modify something on my system, it prompts me for an admin password. most programs (90% or so in my experience) dont do this.
if i download a program (that does not prompt for my admin pw) and run it from my admin account, i feel fairly confident that it will not run amuck on my system.
the only game i've seen that has a real spectator mode is ghost recon... ghost recon allows you to just ghost people... you dont have to pick a team or anything... oh yeah, RTCW has this also...
all the other games basically just have a "dead" camera wheere you can see whats going on instead of just looking at your dead body...
i'm thinking that this would be cool if you could check out some of the action going on before you even join the server... or a full server could have a waiting cue or grandstand type area...
i've never owned any computers other than macs.. I owned every copy of marathon they released...
i'm not pissed about halo being an xbox game... that just means that i can play it from the comfort of my couch on my 32" tv while listening to teh sounds over my 5.1 surround sound system... oh yeah, i play it with my kids and friends too...
that sure beats the hell out of playing it on my powermac 7100/66 or my g3 imac... actually i probably would never have played it because i wouldnt upgrade my computer for it...
i pre-ordered 2 copies... i have 2 xboxes now and want my own system link games... plus then i wont have to fight with my kids over play time... but that is another story...
I just looked a the reciept in my wallet (which has been there whole time) It's dated March of 2003 i think... i cant tell for sure because the thermal ink on the paper has almost entirely faded...
The original Halo didn't even last me a week. That's how long it took me to complete the story mode with a friend. After that it's just another deathmatch FPS in a world that is already overflowing with better more competitive ones. Oh well, gotta love media hype and the way they get gamers to jump to their tune.

ok, I'm not a big PC gamer (I have a mac)... I've played some quake3, UT and old school marathon games in college... I firmly believe that halo is the best game ever... wanna know why? you have to look at the big picture...
this was the first time I ever played a FPS with a good story... you don't have to read anything to follow the story either... (here is where the xbox with its controller start to shine over the PC) you can go through said story with a friend, in your living room, sitting next to you on your comfy couch.... you can watch the story on your nice big TV and hear it through your home theater...
on top of that, you can play it on "pathetically easy" to "incredibly hard" with 2 mid-points in between... halo on legendary is the way it was meant to be played... the AI and the balance of the weapons becomes apparent here... if you never tried it like that, do it now...
the game itself is extremely polished (yeah the textures are repeated and some of the maps are copy/pasted)... you have eth AI of the marines and covenant... the vehicular combat... the explosion physics....
and now we start with the multiplayer... fast enough to be fun for vets... slow enough for n00bs/sepectators to follow/learn... EXCELLENT multiplayer map design (blood gulch, sidewinder and hang 'me high are 3 of my favorite multiplayer maps of all time)...
jumping in/out of vehicles on the fly... 2 or more people in the vehicle at the same time? this crap is groundbreaking... this game predates BF1942 here folks... system link lets 16 people play on a network... unheard of on the console world before halo1... awesome gameplay types (totally customizable) involving vehicles... not unheard of, but never done this well (you can save custom gametypes to keep you from having to set them up each time)...
here is some flamebait here... I am pretty good with a mouse/keyboard, but I prefer to play halo on my xbox (other than the lack of online mode)... I put in some hours on my brothers PC playing it right after it came out... I think the game itself was tweaked to play with the controller... the vehicles are much easier to control with a controller...
from the previews/info I have seen on halo2, I am completely excited... I cannot wait for 11/9... I am buying 2 copies of this game... 1 for each xbox I own... I have 2 xboxes, so I can play 8 person halo at my house...

This sound like the Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, only in reverse and not funny. and no crazy people falling into puddles of fluid. and of course, no Vic Romano and Kenny Blankenship.
I have counter-strike for Xbox (I have a mac, sadly half-life was never ported to macs). If they used a similar AI for condition zero as they did for xbox counter-strike, you guys are in for a treat. On xbox, you can scale the AI from Walking Meat to Unblievably Tough (with a couple steps in between). WHen I say unbelievably tough, I mean they are hard as hell. The bots actually camp. And they dont just sit there, they will move around a little, then camp a little. Its pretty cool. I couldnt believe it when I first saw it.
I know this is off topic, but its funny anyhow... I saw a screenie from UT2004 where this portion of a map (don't know which one) looks just like goatse...

Back in teh 80's I used to have a plastic comb in the inside pocket of my jean jacket... this comb had all the teeth removed (except at the end)... it was for track and field... I could make my guy run hella fast with that comb... A friend made a battery powered thing to push the buttons that was cool, but did not work to good...
If you can just sniff and serve up IE a different style sheet to make your site render correct, who cares?
No more hacking to make work arounds for IE. As long as you dont have to change the design of your site (except for a sniff for IE), who cares.
I have a story just like that from my school (Drexel)... I was always in the computer lab downstairs doing work... every so often someone would say "I'm Gathering" and you would hear 6 people start up marathon...
I used to play it soo much, I coild configure all of the keys in like 10 seconds (I had the order memorized)... those were the good ol days...
no coop on Xbox there is co-op. It is quite fun actually.
guns with no accuracy ummm. the pistol is hella accurate.. too accurate if you ask me. actually the only weapon that is not accurate is the assault rifle.
and full of bugs(no space bugs, mind you)! I dont see teh bug in this game. All I see is repetitive textures and level design in places. And the things that come out of those brain looking flood aliens look like bugs to me.

i have halo on xbox (thats why I said there was co-op). the xbox version is not buggy (blind haters wont admit that)
