I was not talking about the specifics of GTA in prison, rather I chose to comment on the wrong assumption that prison time is time you spend being punished. Yes, I'd probably agree with your opinion...

It truly annoys me that there are still people who do not know what prison is for, yet they choose to write self-righteous replies pointing out wrong facts. I'll give you a hint: it's called a corrective facility for a reason. The fact is that through our education and social memes we have gotten to believe that prison is for punishment. It is not, and we need to be categorical about this. The fact that people still believe that you are being punished while in prison, let alone that you are in prison so you cannot do more harm is indicative of the ignorance of basic human rights that were that were the object of much fighting in 18th Century France and America.

Even more indicative of especially the American public's specific fascination with the equation "prison=punishment" is that you actually think it is the death penalty is a conversation topic when all of the developed world has understood that when the establishment chooses to murder one of its subjects, the battle is lost. Also, as far as I know, federal prisoners automatically lose their right to vote and to be elected. In many western democracies, taking away these rights is reserved for only of the worst of criminals and, specifically, ones convicted of high treason or political crimes.

They have convinced you that, because you get more fps you get a better gaming experience and, because you are a true gamer you need more fps. So "bullshit" to you, kind sir.

So go on, spend your money on useless things, play Quake 3 at 300fps and marvel at how you see things before they happen. Fact is, you cannot see the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz.

Assuming the shipping date does not change (and, other than editorials there is no indication it will), the version they used is most probably the final one the publishers have, giving them a couple of days to ok the product for duplication.

Also, you do not drop features from a beta. Features get fixed at the end of the alpha. Beta is for optimisations and bug squashing, whatever the product.

What I find amazing is that you say that Metroid Prime is just Metroid in 3d. Pardon my question but have you even played the game for more than a minute? I own all three consoles as well as a pretty high-spec PC, and there is not one game out there that offers the immersion and playability of Metroid Prime. Saying that Metroid Prime is anything but genious is like saying that Half-Life is just Quake with a story.

As I said, no offence had been intended. I sidestepped diabetes by apparently a very very narrow step last year. My sugar levels were pretty high and I managed to put them down to normal levels through a sugar-free diet and regular aerobic exercise. I also know people who have diabetes and they simply don't care, which is weird enough since the consequences can be grave, if not lethal. One of them reflected what I thought was the point of your post "there will eventually be a cure so why should I diet", something I find stupid, especially since he's fast approaching 200 kilos. It was that attitude I was replying to, not the specific of your situation - you actually have my sympathies as well as my apology for any offence perceived.

Insightful???? Yes, that's right, the XBOX's failure in Japan is not because it is too expensive, not because its games are not appealing to the Japanese people, not even because there is no strong third party Japanese software. Not even because it is so HUGE that it doesn't fit in the average Japanese appartment.

Of all this you chose a nationalistic non-explanation that bears very little relation to the reality of Japanese people. It is not market protectionism that doomed the XBOX in Japan, it is shit marketing.

Yes, I forgot the MIDI interface. What was amazing about it was that in some games, specifically Sierra On Line adventures you could connect a MIDI keyboard and have unheard-of sound quality. Simply amazing... I remember a lot of people at the time complaining that the ST had a MIDI in and out, but no MIDI through, I guess the good outweighed the bad and the ST remained king in this area...

  23. Re:Infogrammes bought Atari on The Last Days Of Atari - In Full Color · · Score: 4, Interesting
No. Atari went downhill when Jack Tramiel failed to compete with Amiga. The Atari ST (FM/E) was not a big deal in the US but it was HUGE in Europe, especially Germany. I remember most of the software available, especially apps, was German at the time, including an amazing DTP software (Calamus), an EXCELLENT Mac Emulator (Aladdin?) and most, ahem, disk copying software.

Amiga was better than the Atari ST in one crucial thing: games. It had both stereo sound and a hardware blitter chip. It was designed for multimedia, whatever that meant at the time. However, most people, myself included, who would choose the ST did so because of the Hi-Res 640x400 monochrome mode that was AMAZINGLY good on Atari's excellent mono white phosphore monitor. Mac emulation, for example, was a joy since you could run Mac programs both faster and at a better resolution than a Mac classic which, frankly, was good enough for almost everything at the time.

Atari lost it first with the STE. It was too little, too late. I don't remember specifically any games that used the advanced capabilities of the STE except for a couple that required it for paralax scrolling. Playing Shadow on the Beast on the ST was painful, for example, while it was a joy on the Amiga. Although I do remember tears of joy when I came upon a demo that managed to replicate perfectly the well-known and amazing, for the time, bouncing ball demo that sold more Amigas than people can imagine.

Then, they lost it with Falcon and the 68030 machines that were too expensive AND sported a TOS (operating system) that was mostly incompatible with past versions. Even though they were great machines TOS and GEM could not compete with Windows any more and many people, myself included, migrated to Wintel. But don't kid yourself, Europe was 66% Amiga, 33% ST at the time for computer games. PCs were few, they were very expensive and had ugly, UGLY CGA games. How could an EGA PC compare with the beauty that was Defender of the Crown and all the other beautiful Cinemaware games? ST was a force over here and I have not regretted any hardware sale in my life except the sale of my 1040 STE and monitors.

The Atari 800 was also a great computer, so I really have to disagree with you that Atari went downhill after '76. Arguably, what destroyed Atari was the overhyping and underperforming of the Jaguar, as well as Tramiel's grandiose figurehead management.
