I say if you fire an employee unjustly or lay them off to hire some workers for less money then you deserve punishment. While there are not technological solutions to capitalist exploitation currently (only political solutions exist to my knowledge), in the mean time I hope you IT staff who are unjustly terminated bring the pain and cover your tracks.
ok, if you are really concerned, unplug the power adapter and remove the battery. Remove the top bezel from your laptop, just stick a black stick or screwdriver under the right part that goes over the right henge and lift up, it might take a little force (don't he-man it but it's ok to use a little force) and it will pop up. This should expose a few screws holding in the keyboard. Unscrew them. Take the keyboard up, and unplug the connector. Take some %90 alcohol (isopropanol, or ethanol, methanol, or just about any light alcohol will work, but I would prefer isopropanol) Hold the keyboard away from the laptop and give it some sprays with the alcohol. You don't have to soak it to the extent of immersion, but get it good an alcoholed. Let it sit for 3 hour so that all the water that was mixed in with the alcohol will evaporate. In the mean time use the alcohol on the screen and all the exposed plastic. Wait an hour. Reassemble keyboard and bezel.
This proceedure should kill just about everything, especially if you use isopropanol or methanol. Acetone might work also but I am not sure.
Don't be so paranoid.
This sort of nonsense will continue in retail jobs (and everywhere else) until workers UNITE. There is no sense in taking this sort of abuse. Circuit City employees: your company does not care about you, if you want to receive something like fair compensation for your labor then you have to unite with your fellow employees.
I am opposed to DRM as the idea of intellectual property is flawed in the first place. Aside from instructions detailing the construction of a hydrogen bomb, the free exchange of information benefits mankind. The internet long ago made obsolete the business model of the big record companies, and it is time that we stop trying to prop them up artificially. Let artists make a living the way they have since time immemorial, by performance, or creating physical art. Software programmers can contribute to mankind's collective knowledge and ability, and if they don't have anything new to contribute, there are other jobs. Rewriting software that accomplishes the same task with the same efficiency is silly. Open source must be the law. Intellectual property is a ball and chain that our our society must (and will inevitably) shed. The question is, how long will we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot and hold back human progress?
There is not one person reading Slashdot who has not copied a tape, "pirated" software, or swapped an mp3. You know you have done it, and you know that you do not feel guilty about it. Stop lying to yourselves.
Workers in any industry must unite to wrest power from the bourgeoisie. Extracting profit from labor is immoral. If you develop technology, it's your technology -- not theirs. You do the work, they sit back and let their money do their work. They do not deserve it. They are stealing from you. Band together and take back what was yours to begin with.
Giving the capitalists something else to rent out to the oppressed masses. Just what the third world needs. Great thinking guys. This model already works out so well for everyone with sharecropping and worker dormatories. The "community" pc indeed.
this paragraph sounds particularly humanitarian: "The Jaagruti kiosk Community PC platform will have certificate-based access that will allow lending banks remote-access control over payment plan participants."
Why is the above comment marked flamebait? The article abstract was poorly written. Who could deny it? Especially the sentence phrased as a question that changed subject 3 times, and then going on to not be a question at all.
How about creating a progressive tax with an exponential curve?
The more gold you have stowed away, the more the game gov't gets every day.
Perhaps with the more tax you pay, you could gain some sort of prestige or privalige or something, so that a normal rich gamer would not be straight robbed.
Bacteria can be grown to be resistant to nearly anything, within reason, given enough generations.
It seems that if we wanted to seed Mars with life, we could take a suitable microbe, expose it to martian level radiation until 99% of the organisms are eliminated, then allow it to regrow, then expose to radiation, regrow, and continue this process until the UV is no longer harmful. The nutritional substrate would have to be something similar to that found on the martian surface, of course, but it really does not seem that far fetched to me.
the real concern would be, do we want to seed mars with life before we are certain that there is no native microbial life?
I suspect that this technology could be part of a comprehensive weight loss strategy. Eat all you want, and burn the calories by powering gadgets! exciting:-)
Now see you obviously missed the part where it said "those people looked the other way" rather than "those people put the jews on the trains"
Of course it is ridiculous to make 3rd reich comparisons to IP... sure it is...
Microsoft calls people who disagree with it, a "cancer," and "Communists."
Microsoft attempts to dominate everything software related by hook or by crook.
If Microsoft is given an inch, they take a mile. Oops sorry that is an intergal part of the operating system now.
Microsoft feels that 3rd world nations are somehow inferior, so it produces a product with reduced functionality just for them.
I could go on and on, pal, but I won't.
The problem is, that people do not understand what a detriment to society intellectual property is. Findings in science must be freely shared for the good of humanity, profit be damned. In the early days of computing no one every thought of "owning" data, but somehow that has become the norm of thinking. Well it must stop. It is of a gravity that deserves a third reich comparison. So blow it out your ass.
You obviously have no core priciples. Either that, or you are a coward. Intellectual property is a detriment to our society, and it is complacence from cowards like you that allows this evil to continue. It's people like you that looked the other way when the trains took the Jews away. You make me sick.
I ran debian for a while, but I have moved on to gentoo on my desktop and ubuntu on my laptop (the laptop is too damn slow to compile its own binaries)

What he should have said was:
anything that is opiate will have some addictive potential
What he should have said is
anything that is an opioid will have some addictive potential
as this drug will act on the opioid receptors but is not an opiate because it is not derived from the poppy

Where the hell is "Cat's Cradle," by Kurt Vonnegut?
I think not
if this became some sort of standard, I am sure that I would use whatever tools were available to me to circumvent the advertisements

Is the reason that SUN won't just GPL the regular Java because they want to have final say on what is the gold standard of java?

Why is a firearm not a disgrace to the sport? Shouldn't one use a spear? And no atlatls either!
I hate to say it But Zaphod ruined the movie. He is the Jar-Jar Binks of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Well duh we are in sector 001, being bisected by the line dividing the alpha and beta quadrants.

of course the article is shens, but is it really a bad idea?
