I was under the impression that even if you set the pagefile setting to 0 in XP that windows is still actually using a page file, just not in a set location (ie dynamically creates it). So it's actually slower as the pagefile isn't up the front of the drive and is fairly fragmented. Anyone in the know know if this is correct?
Well said, I'd love the opportunity to buy an electric car. I understand it's not for everyone, but there has to be a market for them even if it is smaller. Ala, I think it's probably oil giants lobying in the other direction (or all directions at once just to confuse the way forward).
On the lightning fast startup front for PSP, I have to say if you use the standby mode (much like a laptop), it starts up insto. if your playing the same game for a while and not switching between disks it makes for very easy quick plays.
But yes, so far Luminies has invaded my PSP most of the time...I dont think that means games like Ridge racer and Untold legends are bad...just that Lumis is totally addictive!
unfortunately you've just summarised capatalism. Reduce your labour costs through "more efficient" tech and the reduction of labour numbers...gain short term benfit...look for next way to extract more surplus value from the workforce. repeat until workforce = 0?
Unfortunately slowly but surely the workers are getting the raw end of the deal.
Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that their "
net profit for the three months to 31 March were $1.4bn" and yet still somehow this equates to we should axe 13000 workers...I guess IBM will be the first with their backs to the wall in the revolution eh?;)
REAlbasic is pretty cool, works as advertised. It's great to write something then have it work on PC, OSX and linux as native EXE's. Has a nice VB like GUI and decent language.
I guess the thing you'll run into is that no-one's hiring RB developers (as far as I can tell), cause nobody has heard of it...Sometime you have to ask yourself if it's worth investing the time learning one of the lesser known tools (even if they are excellent), given that your employment opportunities are so small.
just my 2c.
I'm about to move back to Aus from the US and was pretty depressed about not having access to TiVO anymore. Hope this takes off and becomes a success.
Also it's not JUST for skipping ads, IMHO it's more for making shows available on YOUR schedule, not when the broadcasters decide to air the show. It's very liberating and even in Aus with only 5 channels there's still a lot of content, so I think it'tt be a big hit. Once people understand what it can do, might take a little product education.
I'm always curious when people are complaining about IE why more people don't sugest IE replacements like Netcaptor or MyIE2. Both allow tabbed browsing, popup blocking etc etc.
I've been using Netcaptor for a while now and like it alot.
Cheers
Just downloaded the OSX version and still don't see any way to import or use the native OSX address book. It may seem like a small point, but when your trying to roll out a new mail client, being able to keep you old address book is a very handy thing indeed.
Cheers

RunRev mobile can't be overjoyed with this little piece of news, fingers crossed they alter this policy.

two digits....42. Bring on the prize!
He may well be a troll, but if his posts spark discussion in the end we all benefit right?

oh an no they didn't do it on a whim...they did it to maximize shareholder stock values. Evil? Nope. Sad state of affairs for society as a whole? Yep

Didn't the old Macromedia Xres pluggin accomplish this kind of streaming low-res -> Hi-res image?
Sounds a lot like they've re-invented Roboform.
