err, mayhaps i should rephrase that. i hear new bands listening to sirius satellite radio on the couple of indie/alt stations they have (which are actually pretty good). save those artists names, hit kazaa for more of their stuff when i get home, and buy cds if the rest of their stuff tickles my fancy. hasn't let me down yet, really. a lot better than trying to do the same with fm.
i was actually talking to a friend about this while we wandered around a best buy the other day: if cds were priced more reasonably, i know i would buy more cds, and i'm sure other people think the same. i own about 300 cds, and i can only imagine how many more i'd have if they were in the $9-12 range instead of $16-18.
and holy crap, i buy cds of bands i like that i found thru kazaa! what is the world coming to!?
to make this somewhat on topic, i'd actually say that i have to disagree with the article. i think if you concentrate and try to push it out to a demographic thats not familiar with gaming, they'll just resist it more than they normally would. i think to spread there just needs to be more 'killer apps,' for lack of a better term.
i was one of the people betaing MCO back in the day. a big part of the problem was that, after we had been betaing for quite a while, we found out that the version that went gold was like three patches older than what we had been betaing. between that, and it actually shipping with no features that weren't in beta but were said to be (custom paint, etc), most of the people in beta who SHOULD have been shoe-in customers, said they'd had enough.
it also didnt help that there was nothing in the final game that wasnt available in the beta easily (the economy was so out of whack in beta that you could get anything you wanted within a few days, so everybody had ubercars).
see, but with Deus Ex I always figured that was supposed to be on purpose, sorta showing his ability to remain calm based on his inhuman parts, etc etc. plus, if you deliver your lines sorta average, they come across ok if you're playing as 'good guy' or 'bad guy' without having to record a second line for every situation.
the Soul Reaver series, in particular Soul Reaver 2, has some inredible voice acting matched up with pretty darn good writing as well. I was really impressed with some of the dialogue between Raziel and Kain in that one.
i actually meant to post the correction anonymously. however, your little diatribe took up more room than both my posts combined, only to reiterate the point i was making, which is that the moderation system is broken. it's not my fault nobody modded it offtopic.
i imagine that it will still be able to play the expansions and the mods, its just not including a toolkit, so there wont be any mods made by mac users.
at least until some mac user writes their own toolkit anyway.

..i already spend more time playing games than i do watching tv, guess i'm ahead of the trend.
but is this the fault of better games or worse tv?

i may have just been fished in (most likely), but if this is anywhere near serious, i'd love to see that news article if someone has a link.

christ, calm down.
i still can't explain how entertained i am by the replies and mods this post is getting. this is the most fun i've had on /. in months.
my hats off to you man, that was the best 'fished in' moment ive seen in quite a while. =)
err, got modded. keyboard moved under my hands.
i can't freakin believe this god modded as Interesting. I wish I could mod moderations as Funny.
mmmm...breading...

are
incorrect.

as long as they don't bother us anymore, I don't care what they call themselves.
DANG, my joke woulda been a LOT funnier if I'd thought of that. My hat's off to you, sir!
ooh, ooh. i got another one! "Microsoft and Homeland Security! Greatest oxymoron since Microsoft Works!"
sorry, I'm bored. but i can see this thread will be a fun one already.
i'll go first! "well, there goes the neighborhood."
I'd prefer to see a PDA with a 640x480 ... I'd even settle for 480x640.
...wha?
the other ones were funnier.
i was wondering the same thing myself. woops, here comes an offtopic. =)
i get ten rods to a hogshead, and thats the way i likes it!
