It seems that we hear about these "breakthroughs" pretty often. At least long enough to generate an initial round of investment and then we never hear anything from them again. Hopefully this will not be the same. I personally still believe that hydrogen fuel cells are better option. Especially with the recent advances in membrane tech which allows the rapid creation of hydrogen from ammonia. An Australia firm has recently made this more attractive from a cost perspective.
I am looking forward to electrically powered cars. I think electric engines are better in nearly every way. Also, vastly less to go wrong in terms of mechanical bits. Batteries however are crap. In 10 years, it will be an unusable heap of e-waste that must be replaced. Sure, some of that battery can be recycled, but much will go to a land fill. Not to mention the environmental impact of lithium mining. There is very little that is "green" about current battery tech. Not to mention the fact that the current power grids of the world cannot support everyone having a plug in car. Fire back up the coal plants I guess since nuclear is politically not possible in most countries.
That is a big reason hydrogen is a good option. Ammonia can be created in bulk offsite using renewables and transported using current infrastructure then using membrane tech, which is not that power intensive, converted to hydrogen onsite at a filling station.
Seriously, I don't know if they are all trolls or what, but you ever read the comment sections on any of the British websites that have anything remotely to do with Brexit or the EU, I would say it is clear that the brains left the UK a long time ago and the island is inhabited purely by Trump loving psychopaths. Some of the arguments those people make are literally retarded. I would say they have absolutely zero reasoning skills.
I am not surprised by their market share. It is so damn convenient to shop with them. In the last 8 months, I have made a concerted effort to avoid buying anything physical from Amazon. I do use Amazon to search for different products of interest and to get an idea of the price. I then try to find it in a local store and if the price is reasonably close, I buy it local.
I had a look around last year and noticed that a lot of stores seem to close and suddenly realized that I am part of the problem. So, I buy local when I can, even when it is less convenient. I also remind other others to try and buy local to save money from themselves down the line. After all, when people don't work... someone needs to pay the benefits.
I would imagine that for new students, by the time they reach of the end of their schooling, the landscape will be completely different. We are already starting to see programs that will code for you. I could imagine in the not too distant future, there will be no need to know code. "Programmers" will be more akin to architects, arranging code blocks like Legos to get the desired outcome. The program will do the rest for them to complete the application.
I think that things are advancing fast enough that we will surely see this type of situation before my children are grown. Personally, I feel that time is better spend learning core disciplines, like mathematics, physics and especially critical thinking skills. I think when you have a good grasp on core areas, that it becomes much easier to derive the correct answer in other areas.
The problem is that these companies, Samsung, LG, Huawei etc. think that they need their own special sauce as a differentiator in order to set their product apart from the competition. What they fail to understand is that people do not buy a phone BECAUSE of Touchwiz, they buy it IN SPITE of have Touchwiz. It's like the earlier days of PCs where OEM jammed loads of crap ware on the PC even though people just wanted a Windows machine without all the nonsense installed. I am sure there are some people who like Touchwiz, EMUI and all the other flavors, but in my experience people are far happier with "real" Android. This is why the Pixel sells. This was why the Nexus phones were successful. Or the Motorola "pure" editions outsold the normal variants via their online shop. Of course, they still don't understand it and insist to add their stupid broken versions of Android. I long for the day of a common phone architecture where a person can just install the OS they want. Phone makers are HW companies, not SW companies. Focus on that.
I had the Huawei Nexus 6P. It was a great phone and always had the latest and greatest Android version running. Sadly, it was very slippery and I dropped it one too many times..the last one into the pool and I was never able to fully repair it. I liked that phone so much that I replaced it with a P20 pro. Boy, do I regret it. Compared to the 6P, it is a dumpster fire on a hot Texas summer day. It never occurred to me that Huawei would break so many stock Android features with their ridiculous EMUI.
Want to interact with a notification from the lock screen? Nope, cannot do it. Want to pull down the top menu to enable or disable wifi from the lock screen? Nope, cannot do it. Want to select a wifi network directly from the pull down menu without going to wifi settings? Nope, cannot do it. Dismiss alarm from lock screen? Nope, cannot do it. Want the huawei clock alarm to sound during quiet hours? Nope, cannot do it. Want the google google clock alarms to work for more than 2 days without the need to turn on and off the alarm? Nope, cannot do it. Want to use a cellular data connection WHILE your phone is camped on a wifi network which has no data connection? Nope, cannot do it. The phone will NOT use cellular even though wifi data is impossible. Want to double click power button to turn on camera? Nope, cannot do it. You can use the volume down button though. Want to use the volume double press to turn on the camera whilst listening to audio or in a call? Nope, cannot do it. Want to fully disable the insane beautify mode for selfies? Nope, cannot do it. It goes on and on and on. This is really the first phone that I genuinely regret getting. The only good thing is the battery life. Of course, the phone is so fucking slow, it's no small wonder the battery lasts two days.
Seriously, this article is fucking ridiculous scare mongering, pure and simple. Let's see. They need physical access to your phone. They need to have your password because the phone must be able to install as a modem, but Android does not do without enabling it EACH time you plug it in. They need the modem drivers. Then, they need to send AT commands after all that. After they were already holding your unlocked phone.
Likely most people have no idea about AT commands. Yes, they are still used. They are also mandatory to support, should you wish to certify your phone according to PTCRB, which, unless you are selling only to VzW or Sprint, you MUST do to be allowed on the network. AT commands are normally not used by people. They are used by machines. They are used by SIM application tool kit for example. Your SIM card has applications on it that handles things like steering of roaming. This is done via at commands to the modem. Or changing the PLMN as another example.
If you really want to fuck with your phone, then DL a copy of QXDM and start tweaking NV items. NV items are used by qualcomm to control everything about the radio. Change the bands? Sure, no problem. Change power class? Yup. Of course, the physical HW would not support it and likely you would damage the PA, but you can still set it. There likely wont be any matching circuit in the antenna path either. So if the PA can transmit in that band, you will get some pretty wicked spurious emissions. There are tons of settings you can make to brink your phone straight away. This takes the same level of access then sending stupid AT commands.
As I recall hearing a few years ago, border agents do not need cause. They can search whom ever they want. Americans or not. Cause or not. It's called the border search exception or doctrine. They often seize electronic goods for their own use and there is little to no recourse for the unwashed masses. Your government is literally out of control. Nothing matters anymore. Your politicians can say and do literally anything and it doesn't matter to Americans. Look at all the people who still rally behind Trump. The same hypocritical, inbred motherfuckers who shouted red faced that Clinton must be impeached because he fucked an intern. This dude pays off porn stars, works with the Russians to win the election and suddenly, it's all OK. Likely if you supported Clinton impeachment and are OK with Trump, you are a piece of shit. Maybe you should join the border patrol?
I have heard a lot of people screaming about these two companies, but so far, no one has produced any evidence of wrong doing. At least not that I have read about.
Is this just cold war scaremongering or is there actually something behind it.
It seems like a political statement more than anything. Perhaps some protectionism for other network infrastructure providers. Huawei has dominated in LTE. It is actually hard to find a network configuration that is not Huawei at the moment.
Seriously.. All these studies are just ridiculous. One week, a study comes out saying that too much sleep will give you a stroke. Then, not enough sleep will give you cancer. Then too much sleep will give you cancer. It's like red wine. Every other study completely contradicts the previous one. What is the point? There is so much conflicting information that it is literally impossible for any "normal" person to make any kind of informed decision about to or to not do. I say, just live you life normally without giving one single heck about this crap. It seems clear that if you eat a diet with little processed foods and exercise a bit, you should be fine.
5G actually has nothing to do with MiMo. LTE already has MiMo as a mandatory feature. Though, 2 antennas are used. The higher speed is generated from carrier aggregation. Basically, using multiple channels on the same band or different bands to effectively increase the bandwidth. LTE has a max carrier bandwidth of 20 Mhz depending on the band. Some bands only support 5 and 10 Mhz bandwidths for example. Category 16 can support phones support up to 4x carrier aggregation, which does use 4x MiMo and 256QAM modulation. Anyhow, 5G certainly does use MiMo, but that is not what makes it 5G. The modulation scheme is totally different from standard LTE. This is how it is able to dramatically reduce the latency and increase the data throughput of a given bandwidth. The 3GPP standards were only recently ratified, so it will still be at least a year before you see anything in real life. Likely longer. Phones require certification to be on the market. So far, no equipment maker is producing any 5G test equipment. Additionally, the test cases are not fully defined by the RAN group.
If you have physical access to the person you want to harm and that person is already in a state where they need life monitoring equipment and can apparently not shout to the nurse or anything... It seems easier to just.. you know... harm them. Shoot some Drano on the IV drip or what ever. Seems pretty convoluted and slower to rig up some hack.
This is a strawman argument and you know it. Is there no demand for fast broadband at a reasonable price? Of course there is! Then why hasnt your magic market offered it? I guess it because LACK of choice is very good for businesses. Companies want to do one thing and one thing only. Make money. Do people want a SUV that gets 50MPG? Of course they do. But, it is far more profitable to offer one that gets 18 mpg. The margin on trucks and SUVs is amazingly high. There is zero incentive to change the situation. In the end people in the US cannot live without a car. So, they have to buy what is available. Just look to history man. Without governments forcing companies to do shit we would still have company stores and companies dumping all their shit into the rivers, using poison instead of the proper foodstuffs. Basically all the shit you were seeing in China the last 10 years. People are greedy as fuck. Groups of people will try to fuck you every way they can when there is money involved. Don't act like the market will fix everything because we know from history that an unregulated market is evil incarnate.
Must be the case, because you would need to give your actual name. Assuming you are not paying in bitcoin or something. I guess you never paid a bill online either. Pretty sure they wont accept a fake name.
The funny thing about republicans. When it comes to denying rights based on race or sexual preference the republicans are always banging on about states rights. Want to prevent people from getting insurance? States rights. Gay cannot get married. States rights. Not let blacks into uni? States rights.
Want to prevent your children from breathing poison? Who do they think they are? States cannot just do what they feel like.
If are a Republican and support states rights to discriminate against people you hate dont support their rights to protect their residence, then you are a racist piece of shit. Full stop. Sure, you can pretend you are not a racist steaming pile of shit, but we all know you are. Personally, I could not care if you are steaming pile of shit racist or not. What bothers me is your hypocritical. Stop being a coward and just admit what you are. A steaming giant pile of shit.
I would be pretty surprised if Apple offered a 2nd SIM via an actual SIM tray. Likely the tray will still be one SIM, whilst the 2nd SIM will be an embedded SIM with OTA provisioning. Apple has pushing PTCRB to accept embedded SIMs only for years and they were heavily involved in the steering groups and standards committees for embedded SIMs. I doubt they did that just for fun.
Did your iphone not come with a set of headsets with the proper plug? Why would you need a dongle for them? Why do you need 3 dongles? How many headsets to you actually require to listen to music? Most people just use the one or two. I have one at work and one at home.. not counting the bluetooth set. That lasts about 6 hours, which is way more than I need. The only time I could imagine needed to charge and listen to headphones at the same time is at work, but I am not really the type who can focus on work and listen to music at the same time, so for me it is a non-issue. I guess wireless charging would solve that issue.
For my personal use, I have found that switching to a phone that uses only USB-C, the P20 Pro in this case, I didn't really care about the headphones jack: I thought it would bother me, but since head phones are included and an extra dongle is also there, I has not had an impact. When I bike to work, I use a bluetooth sports style head set and in the car, I use Android auto and never head phones. I think it is technically illegal where I live to use headphones on both ears in the car anyhow.
It does remind me of the old says when companies would come out with weird proprietary connectors for headphones so that you would have to buy their special headphones if you wanted to listen to music on your phone. Now, you can buy a dongle from them. Sure, maybe they only make 1$ on it, but how many iphones did they sell? Plus people will probably just buy new headphones with that lightning connector, which will be basically all profit.
Seriously, why would Google possibly care? In what way does it have any impact whatsoever on the Android Eco-system?
Who is it hurting to run this software? If someone wants to use their phone to run cycles on mining or watching hard core Japanese porno, who's fucking business is it?
And with the average broadband in the US being about 50Mb/s DL and 5 UP, I guess it should take a while to fill with content. Not to mention, Cock (or is it Cox?) will surely throttle your connection long before you ever get the chance.
It seems that we hear about these "breakthroughs" pretty often. At least long enough to generate an initial round of investment and then we never hear anything from them again.

Actually, A hydrogen atom is about 0.1 nm in diameter
I don't get it...
It seems likely that Apple will still start out with 32Gb installed, and charge an extra 80% for 1Tb, even though the costs are pennies.
