  1. To eliminate the crapware that comes on a mobile phone, and to install a hosts file based block of ads & facebook. It makes android a delightful experience.

    Thank you....

I've not had an android phone before, so was curious as to why this seems to be so popular.

Do all Android phones come with this "crapware" as you termed it....apps are installed that you don't want and can't delete? Is this common for all android phones, or does it vary by the price range of the phone?

Does Facebook come on these android phones even if you don't make an effort to download and install it from the app store?

Thanks for the info....I've had friends try to get me to buy android next time, and I'm trying to find compelling reasons to move from iPhone....having to hack around on the phone to get rid of stuff like this sounds a bit disconcerting.

  2. LMFAO, you got an ARM based tablet computer for computing horsepower? And "buying a string of less capable items" (an i5 or i7 with a decent graphics card is about the same price but faster)? And the Canon 5D3's wifi is likely slow as molasses. Copying "11 RAW images" while plugged in over USB over microSD will take seconds to transfer GB, not minutes (and be less taxing on battery life)

You might wanna get your facts a bit better....?

The canon 5D3 doesn't have built in wifi....not sure where you got that.

I use a card reader to unload my cards to my main work computer.

I just moved some files between dropbox and the iPad Pro for working on while I'm out and about, and it works great.

I only mentioned the camera version of the RAW images, to give an idea what size files this things is working with to stitch together or focus stack...the pano was 11 images each one about 28.2MB apiece. It took a bit for the iPad pro to do it, but I've seen laptops that would struggle more than the iPad did.

But again, this is not my main computer, I have a workstation set up for my serious photo and video work, but it is nice to be able to do some work on them while out at the pool, etc.

Again, not talking transfer speeds, but processing speeds of a unit that is amazingly snappy and capable, I'd not expected it to work quite this well.

  3. I won't be buying Samsung any more. They're the ones who partner with AT&T to lock down the bootloader so you can't root your own damn phone.

I"m curious....why would you want to root your phone, what functionality is it lacking that you need to root it?

Is it for needed functionality, or is it more of wanting to climb that mountain "because it is there" type thing?

  4. For a higher percentile number, I imagine there is a higher correlation with the 12â iPad Pro... which I really donâ(TM)t get. A recent flight in first, I was the only plebeian with an old beat-up iPad Air... For flying they seem completely impractical as anything but a status symbol.

My first iPad was the 10.5" one...the Pro model, I got it decked out with full memory and cellular (if I were to need it).

I didn't buy for a status symbol, frankly, I don't know of anyone that would consider one a status symbol, much less have people look at it and readily know what model I had.

I bought mine for the computing power, while traveling I often use some pretty intensive apps, like Affinity Photo and Procreate....the former can really churn the capabilities when you are stitching together 11 or so full RAW images from a canon 5D3....into a panorama, or focus stacking images like that.....or doing "painting" with it.

That pencil that you can get to work with an iPad Pro is an amazing tool,....but it costs money.

And if you save your pennies, it isn't that hard to save up and get something really nice and useful, rather than buy a string of cheaper, less capable items over the years.

This would go a long way of circumventing the sanctuary cities that don't obey the laws and cooperate.

I mean, while no one likes it, under current US law, there's really NOTHING that is codified as being illegal about it, otherwise we'd be stringing up tons of companies over this type thing.

The only good thing that could come out of this, is for the US to pass at least basic privacy laws for our citizens and let it be know that WE own our own data, have rights to see/view, and opt IN if we want it shared or used for us, and can also have it removed/deleted if we wish.

I'm not much of one for most EU type laws, but that last one on data privacy could be used for a model here, if anything useful is to come out of this FB data outrage.
