They have been quite anti-consumer lately. There is no fair use support in Playsforsure DRM, MSFT implemented the protected media path which disables features on consumer's PC components. MSFT DRM is tied to WMP and windows. MSFT's CEO is a vocal supporter of DRM and has stated that he will only allow his children to listen to music DRM'ed as Playsforsure or Zune's marketplace DRM. MSFT's Vista operating system is one big rootkit/DRM which prevents you, the consumer, from using your own hardware to it's full potential. Cancel or Allow?

HD-DVD is supported by MSFT. HD-DVD initially was not going to support anything above 480p through component video which would have forced everyone with a non-HDMI HDTV to "upgrade" to a newer HDTV. They relented "after" Sony came out and said they would not enforce content protection for the first couple of years and allow 1080i through component.

There are numerous Blu-ray burners/drives for PCs and macs out right now. Where are the HD-DVD burners for macs? Where are the consumer level HD-DVD burners for PCs?

Would you care to explain again how HD-DVD is more accessible to the average consumer? I'm not into anime or that sick tentacle porn so I could care less about movies from other regions. DVD burners make DVD accessible as a "format" for consumers with video cameras and the emerging Blu-ray burners will make HD video from HD DV cameras accessible. How is HD-DVD accessible to anyone if you need pro equipment to author it?

Every PS3 is a blu-ray player out of the box.

How is it Apple's problem that tools written by third-parties are not as good? Is it not possible that the third-parties stopped putting so much effort into their solutions as iTunes started to improve and provide some of the features that they were offering?

Without a complete specification, the BSD code will not help someone much if they need to implement the codec in silicon via an FPGA.

While this original authors of OGG may claim that they did not copy code, having a specification to implement a decoder using clean room techniques can help protect manufacturers from potential copyright infringement suits if it turns out that one of the programmers did copy someone's code "accidentally".
