This message thread comes at a time when I have been scanning, touching up and inkjet printing old wedding photos onto matt 'photo' paper for a 40th anniversary party. Several things have become apparent:
Ink prices are outrageous--I got through 2 tri-colour cartridges to print 40 mostly monochrome pictures on an HP 3420. The cartridges cost 18UKP each!
Despite the photos being saved and printed as 8-bit greyscales, the printer/software (Corel Draw 10) insisted on using the tri-colour cartridge to mix the shades--the black cartridge was hardly touched.
The printer will work with only the black cartridge in place, but if 'forced' to use it, the picture quality was ambysmal--ie: I had to mix CMY to get a decent picture.
I take note of all the other comments hereabouts--my next inkjet will be a Canon!
I thought about mentioning this pen, but I don't think they're good for anything but brief note-taking: I have a chrome 'bullet' version and although it looks impressive and writes on pretty much any surface, at any angle, the ink is quite thick and I find it makes writing anything longer than a few pages of brief notes quite a drag. After a while it's actually a relief to go back to anything else, even a Bic Crystal.
I love the pen for 'show' and signing things but I wouldn't use it for anything 'heavier'.
Bummer about the program dude--we're real sorry; in fact, we're soooo sorry, we've stress tested your network and Internet connection free of charge to make up for our codely tardiness."
All MS has to do is rewite some basic error messages and we go from...

Hey dude, Bill reckons you've been working so hard in Word that you deserve a break so we've closed it down for you. Go grab a diet soda (we've gotta watch that sugar rush!) or chill out by the water cooler for a while and then return refreshed to start all over again. We're so glad you've chosen to take a break we've even emailed Bill and told him you're not skipping on your personal time.
Er, hello, has anyone seen our bluetooth-controlled homebrew robot. It was kinda zooming along when it sorta flew out of range (ie more than 5m away from us) when Joe, who was controlling it, dropped the RC when his Segway sorta 'bucked' for no apparent reason and he was thrown to the floor (weird that--anyone else had this happen to them?). We think one of its methanol power cells might be leaking too so stand well back if it comes your way 'cos Joe says it might take off with a 'whoosh' and behave sorta like an ion propulsion drive--who knows where the damn thing may land.
If you see our robot, please email us. Don't try instant messaging us cos our copy of Trillian seems to have stopped working and our Cingular GSM cell phone seems to be dead too (weird that--anyone else had this happen to them?)
Joe reckons all our comms breaking down has something to do with our uni campus being built under a power line so he's off to put his foil hat back on, but I did notice our Ukranian lab assistant wandering around with a hammer just now and I was a little suspicious when he asked me if I had any old hardware I didn't want, and I'm sure 'deztroy' isn't the name of his home town, as he claimed.
Keep your eyes open for us. Thanks.
PS: Why is Darl gonna present his evidence 'sanskirt' - is he a cross-dresser? Does he like to be called Darlene out of business hours?
But can anyone remember putting the dealer-supplied strips of black tape over some of the perforated holes on the front of the inside of the original IBM PC to improve airflow over certain parts of the board?!!
Please cease and desist in promoting this notion as it is in volation of my 1997 patent #0987612345 "A mechanism for the establishment of peer review bodies to determine the existence of prior art with regards to patent applications and patent disputes".
Interesting feedback. I did come across
this paper whilst researching the subject - essentially it's a phone/meter
linked together to forward results for analysis and feedback, but it's not a single, integrated unit. Research sponsored
by Vodaphone (UK) with trials supposedly started in July 2003.
Strangely enough, I've just posted to a diabetes newsgroup on this...
Having a mobile phone with a built-in blood glucose meter would be a real useful thing, especially since the number of people with the disease is growing at an alarming rate.
Imagine what could also be done--you could IR, bluetooth, USB or phone in your results to your computer or an online data store or your docs. If your BG indicated a possible hypo or hyper attack you could press OK to dial one or more numbers for assistance, or the phone could be pre-programmed to automatically dial for help if you did not hit NO/Cancel within, say 10 seconds. With calendaring and alarms, the phone could also remind when it's time to take medication.
As a type 2 diabetic, I have to carry a meter around with me that's about the same size as a mobile phone, so having the two integrated would be great.
In the UK (and probably rest of Europe), Alt Gr + 4 gives the Euro symbol
Just scanned across the keyboard of my S2450 Tosh Laptop - NO SCROLL LOCK KEY!!!
Still got Sys Req though, so only partly short-changed by the designers.

Disney eh...? Imagine a BigBadWolf cluster of those!
There *IS*
Maybe you're thinking of spoons?

Wow! Imagine if that had hit a beowulf cluster.
What's this...it's modded funny AND it IS!!! Is this a new /. policy!?
Nice one!
That was only so that MS engineers could mock-up BSODs so they could get the text alignment and wording right ;-)
Surely we can just crank up the transmission power of the phones and fry the little beggars!? Die Die Die!
And is fine after a reboot
Sltil no crue for cnacre
As some may say.
Aint that the truth. And I've a Wireless access point that clicks quietly but noticeably in a quiet office-damn annoying!
But can anyone remember putting the dealer-supplied strips of black tape over some of the perforated holes on the front of the inside of the original IBM PC to improve airflow over certain parts of the board?!!
And don't forget the additional light pollution through the transparent case - pity the astronomers.
Your god may advise you that although you've put a spam trap in your profile's email address, you've missed it out in the email address in your sig!
Mind you, with a bit of luck, he/she'll strike all spammers down with a bolt of lightning for us - would you have a word?

...will volunteer to do a couple of weeks sitting on the end.

I posted my funny comment on fark.com when this story was posted there about 3 days ago.
