I'm not saying we need to crush windows. Just that choices are a good thing. having Linux as a choice isn't bad. That doesn't have to mean incompatability. Once software companies see taht there's a demand for software that runs on both platforms, you will see and increase of dual-packaging (the Linux and Windows versions in the same box). Most of the standards you mentioned were hardware, because it's hard to have 2 compeeting hardware standards co-exist. In software that's not so much the case. You can have multiple file format standards, just as long as there's a converter. You can have different OS platforms, as long as 3-rd party software writes compile code for both. Do i think the whole world should run linux..no. Do i think the whole world should run Widnows....no. I think that choices are good and that in the software world having multiple OSes/Software pagkages that have the same function are not bad, as long as the can all open documents. Should MS be required to release the source code for Word...No. Should the be required to realse the spec for a *.doc file.....maybe...i don't know. It's a big difference between saying that Linux would be a good CHOICE to have and saying KILL windows!
However if it is filled somewhere else it opens up the possibility that the US court would rule against them and then the foreign court rule for them. Since these 2 courts whould have no baring on each other. This would mean that Kazaa looses, and the Media Companys have sanctions against them in some foreign contry that has no power to inforce it's rules. it needs to be one case decided by 1 judge to prevent this kind of situation. Besides, you can't bring US Monopoly laws charges against a US company in a foreign court, you would have to bring that country's laws against them, which wouldn't help Kazaa's US case at all.
The other MAJOR factor being that by and large right now, most people go to CompUSA/BestBuy/Dell to get a computer. Now matter how good linux is, the see Windows, Windows and more Windows. Until people have a choice when buying their nice new computers, they will use windows, because it's on there. I also know the bigest factor for people it 2 things. 1) Software....they don't realize that there is software that's alot like, and compatable with what they use now. They hear that Linux doesn't have Word and then freak out. 2) Hardware....people want their hardware to work right out of the box, they don't want to have to get it out, and then go searching the manufacture's website for drivers, sometimes to find out that that support just isn't there. When these things get fidex then Linux will really start to grow.
Who ever said that the record/movie companies attempts to prevent piracy were all that fool-proof or that they didn't hurt the technology? You also have to factor in that if they sit through it 2x they have a greater chance of getting caught. Besides, MOST cameras have that same limitation so they arn't going to lose that much revenue....if someone wants a camera, and they all have crappy recording times, then they get one with a crappy recording time.
Actually the reasone MIGHT be closer to the fact that a feature film is 90 - 120 min (not counting the 3 hour movies). I would bet that this limit is to make it harder for people tape movies in the thearter. I know that's why VHS-C tapes were originally kept that short, even though there was room for ALOT more tape in the shell. You don't think the Record/Movie companies started playing dirty with the internet do ya'? They been limiting tecnology for years.
I love how people like to take it out on the SUVs I have a full size van (that I use like most people would use a full-sized truck) and I get less mpg then most SUVs. In fact MOST full size trucks get less the SUVs. Why do people LIKE picking on the SUVs yet very few people are up in arms about Silverados and F350 and Dodge Rams? Maybe because people who have these types of vehicles actaully know how to use them? Any thoughts?
You don't need a program. There's usually an easy way to tell. Look at what else the user is sharing. If they have multiple copies of the same song with just different formatting/spelling of the title...odds are they are gunna be fakes. After all most people don't keep 5 copys of songs with different titles on the HDDs. Just use about 2 min of checking and a bit of common sense you can reduce the chances of getting a bad song.
If your read the article you would realize all the window does is become solid, so that your projector can project onto it. HOWEVER even without that this could be cool, a window taht you can control the transparency of......i could use this really block the light out of my TV room.
It's really not about intelligence though, it's about determination and effort. There are alot of really brilliant people who never did much, because they didn't care. There are a lot of people who are of average intelegence who work their asses off to be in the position what he is/was. Don't worry about your intelligence, worry about setting goals and going for them.
Ever heard of sequestering the jury? Then their families/new media/any thing but the facts can't affect their judgment. In fact in the US sequestering juries of a murder trial is common. The real problem is before the trial ever happens. It makes finding an un-biased jury harder. However the gag orders usually don't come into play that early anyway.
I think the point here is there are already ARE handhelds with bluetooth and not GPS...SO if that's what you want this unit isn't for you. HOWEVER if you want a GPS one and don't care about what's "standard" because you want whay you need, this MIGHT be the unit for you. That's what's great about not having ALL handhelds be the same, people have choices, adn can get what they WAY. What an amazing concept....choices.......
I don't care about the comercials, what really pisses me of is DJs who feel the need to talk all the time, and try and make jokes that really arn't funny! Just SHUT UP and play music. I guess that's why I got the CD changer in the car; because all the do all morning is talk, and nothing they say is at all interesting or funny.
I have read recently about "disposable" DVDs. They would "break-down" after like a week or something, i can't find link now (sorry). However I also remember reading (way back when CD burners were new) that the CD-R were supposed to ahve a shelf live of 70 years after they were burned. Now It doesn't talk me NEARLY that long to scrach the hell out of them, but if you were really careful with them. Anyone else remeber this, or know more?
There's an even easier way. Look at whay else they have shared. Often the "crap" servers list the same song 15 - 20 different ways (spelling variations, different title formats). If you see this it's a BIG hint that they aren't all "clean" copies. It doesn't help if someone else has already downloaded and re-shared the crap. However you CAN take note of the name and EXACT size, if someone else is sharing this exact name and size file, it's probably a copy of the bogus one. It's not 100% fool proof, but it does limit the number of bad songs you'll get.
You forgot the other big advantage.....nice thin wires that are easier work with in the case. I KNOW someone will mention the round ATA cables, but those don't bend so well. The S-ATA wires are more like the wires for the CD-Soundcard. They are much easier to work with.:)
Actually it sounds like they will be required to put it into XP SP2. Now that's a download/install of it's own, but this isn't just about new installs. Here's the real fun part of this, everytime Sun releases a new JAVA MS will be REQUIRED to include it in the next SP. SO if you don't use java at all, you will still be required to download and in stall it if you want the latest security patches in the newest SP.
Unfortunanlty, when dealing with something like this there has to be a paper trail. SO if they just call him up, and somehow it turns into a big issue they could find themselves in a position where they shot them selves in the foot. Is it right that they lawyers need to get involved and draft a legal letter, no. However it's what they NEED to do for legal reasons. The way I understand this, he was offering a great service, they had a small problem with some of the format he presented the info, they come to him in a legal way to try and get this resolved (nicely) and he desides to shut down his service. Why is he shutting down? Sounds to me like he's shutting down out of spite. Now that's a good response, punish everyone else because your ego got bruised becasue someone else did something the proper way. I know, SOMEONE is gunna feel the need to modify this a flamebait, and if that's how it goes fine. The point i'm trying to make (which is not flame bait) is that there doesn't appeard to be any LOGICAL reason for this service to go away, it just needs a few changes which would probbly take almost no real time to make.
It's just one of those weird things taht happens when your right hand types faster then your left, and your already thinking about the next word, and that one just comes out all wrong. I SHOULD preview, but slashdot always seems to take forever to load, so i just get lazy.

Yeah, but usually they don't have a patch that could have prevented it that they reliesed months prior. Usually the fix doesn't exist yet.
Just line your computer with C4. The FBi shows up, press your panic button. Then let them try and prove you swapped anything. HE HE HE :)
No they used to sell good coffee, but as they grew in size, the quality of the coffee went down. Kinda Like McDonald's :)

Um..it would be stealing. Or is that "nothing"?

Ok, has this judge ever seen an arnold schwarzenegger movie? Would his "highly exaggerated muscle tone in arms and legs." make him non-human?
