And why must this be a "liberal attempt" at anything. As soon as anybody says anything negative about the Bush administration - it's decried as liberal this or liberal that.
Liberal = anything short of vehemently supporting and defending Bush in everything he and his cronies do and say.
For most people, existance has to be at least somewhat pleasant in order to be worth it. That's why the idea of Hell scares so many people - interminable, infinite pain. If oblivion was believed to be even worse, religions would have used that instead.
The issue is whether we, as Americans, will tolerate corporations which are based in this country, pay taxes in this country, avail themselves of all this country has to offer, and are owned and operated by American citizens, behaving in a manner that belies everything for which the United States has stood for over two hundred years.
Oh, don't worry. Many of them don't pay taxes here.
You'd rather your money go to put beer in the belly of some spoiled yankee college kid, than food on the table of a chinese family, and you don't see racism?
Maybe he/she wants that spoiled yankee college kid to get alcohol poisoning.
Of course you are assuming that the behavior the government wants to impose on the populace is in fact good for them, as opposed to what they would do naturally. Very doubtful when the government is a repressive oligarchical dictatorship.
I believe that this is why the most successful societies have evolved systems of government where representatives of the people are elected, and those representatives can dedicate themselves full-time to getting informed so they can make those decisions in the best interests of those they represent.
Wish we had such a system in the US. Congresspersons have stated that they don't read most of the bills they vote on.
Unfortunately, the job of a Congressperson is not to properly represent their constituents. The job of a Congressperson is to get reelected, which involves getting large amounts of political contributions, which involves pandering to various special interest groups.
Nah, there's a much simpler solution. The EU could simply declare that MS copyrights would no longer be enforced. Maybe some people would still purchase MS products, but most would simply buy pirated versions, like they do in many Asian countries.
A friend of mine tells me that he was looking for a basic construction job, manual labor, and even for that they required FIVE YEARS of experience.
Nobody wants to have entry level employees.
Once these places are tapped out because of increasing internal demand the cost advantages are going to dry up and then we will *really* hear the whining from business who don't want to pay a real salary to their technical professionals.
Or they might stop whining altogether. At that point, they might just realize that there isn't any large source of cheap labor they could get at if only they could convince the gov't/some other group to let them go after them. No convincing could make people appear from nowhere.
If China and Japan were really smart, they would be buying American companies or even their own companies.
Buying up American companies is one thing, but I read that China requires all companies within their borders to have a majority owned by the Chinese.
Besides, if big American companies decided to pull out of China, I imagine the conversation would go something like this:
American business representative: We're sorry, but we've got to look out for our own interests. We're pulling all our wealth out of China.
Chinese representative: We are sorry to hear that. We believe we can expedite things a bit. All the wealth in the companies you have here is now ours. [presents soldiers] Also, we've arranged to have you stay in our finest detention camps, indefinitely.
Men find sexual behaviour and dress in a woman attractive because it indicates availability. Women don't need a man to demonstrate availability however - it's a given. A man is attractive based on whether he appears a suitable partner, not on whether he is feeling horny or not. So in that sense, dressing nice and appearing friendly and confident is more interesting than pleasegodno wearing a snug loincloth.
Also, it helps for him to be apparently wealthy and tall.
I see all these people around in $300,000 homes and two brand new cars, living on nothing but credit, it wont be long.
My concern is that, despite the fact that I have actually saved up a decent amount of money, that the coming recession, depression, collapse, or whatever happens will hit me just as hard, as a number of things could easily destroy everything I've built up.
I wouldn't go anywhere near that far. He has several pieces of good advice, I'll agree. He's always put me off because he sounds way too much like a salesman all the time.
As for affording to live in Canada. I don't believe its the taxes that are difficult to live with. Its the lack of work. Lets face it there are more opportunities in the US. Canadian companies are pansies and won't take a chance on someone if they have no experience. Have you looked at what the requirements are in Canada for working in the computer science field. I can safeley say that most job postings are unrealistic when it comes to the job requirements.
I'm in the US and haven't noticed any difference on this count.
Don't forget the fact that even if you leave America, you can't really escape it. American foreign policy often been "Do what we say or we'll blow your freakin' heads off."
You forget, IOKIYAR - "It's OK if you're a Republican."
By a very slim margin. And with wide allegations of election fraud.
I think somebody didn't get the memo...

It would be far more effective to end the "catch and release" policy of the INS.

Anything like this?

One who does not believe in God or gods. It makes no mention at all of other supernatural phenomenon, including things like the afterlife.
You are likely thinking of the term "materialist" or the like, who do not believe anything but the perceivable world exists.
How exactly do you think we'll get people to work as judges, or prosecutors, or cops, or any other part of the justice system?
I'd only go so far as saying that justice should not be based on your ability to pay - ie, richer people shouldn't get "better" justice.
