I agree that collecting meal data can certainly be viewed as racial profiling. What does your chosen meal have to do with whether you are a potential terrorist or not? What about domestic terrorists who choose beef or chicken?
I'm confused, isn't there already a concentration of wealth and power? Isn't power/money already unequal? Isn't our court system already corrupted?
Why/How would a change towards civil liberties and personal freedoms make things worse? We've been failing with the two party system for quite some time now, why can't we just try something different? It can't get much worse at this point.
I feel wierd saying it, but I'm not proud to be an American right now, I'm embarassed. I love this country and its people. I am very thankful for the oppurtunities that this country has provided me. I feel very lucky to have been born here. However, our government and political systems are no longer fighting "for the people".
This would be a great advancement in driving for the elderly. Just imagine, a car that plows through a farmers market automatically! They should beta test it in Florida.
Honestly, what does the Google toolbar offer that Firefox doesn't already have, or that isn't already adequately covered by another extension?
Google's toolbar isn't just for searching. This also allows Google the future oppurtunity of including some sort of advertising component (see: AdWords https://adwords.google.com/select/) into their toolbar.
Anyone remember Roger Clemens' MVP Baseball for NES? It wasn't licensed by the MLBPA so the game developer couldn't use any players real names except for Roger Clemens. It was a bit annoying at first because as the previous poster stated, part of playing sports games is getting to play with your favorite team, player, etc. Once I played it a couple of times I got used to it. The player attributes are the same, the only difference was the funny names like "Tim Snow" for "Tim Raines" or something. They were just a play on their real names, and a lot of them were actually pretty funny. If you really knew the players on your team then you knew who they were supposed to be.
Hopefully ESPN will do something similar with their games. I'd buy an ESPN game for $20 for better gameplay without the right names, than $50-60 for an EA game.
I just installed Gresemonkey because I wanted to look at integrating TaDa lists, I haven't had any stability problems. Firefox is starting to take up quite a bit of memory due to the numerous extensions I am messing with, but processor time hasn't been affect. I'm using XP Pro. I have encountered similar behavior with Firefox before, it would constantly take up over 70% of processor time. I'm guessing it had more to do with the ridiculous number of extensions and environment(XP died soon after) versus Firefix itself. I completely uninstalled it, installed with minimal extensions and everything works fine.
I disagree, I do not believe it is free to the sender. I still have to waste my time going through my mail and throwing away the junk mail. I probably don't get more than 2 or 3 pieces of real mail per week, but sure enough my mailbox is full of crap every other day.
AOL sees the $$$ in the DVR industry, but the big networks will give them the least path of resistance because AOL allows them to still generate revenue from its solution.
I think they made a good move by delaying this. They decided not to alientate those potential customers who are not already Matrix loyalists as other movie franchises have, i.e. Star Wars, LOTR. It is tough for a non-franchise fan to get into the all movie hoopla if they haven't seen where the franchise originated, especially if they have to spend $50 for a special edition for a movie they aren't even sure they will like.
Opinions may vary on what franchise is best, or whether or not this was a good move for the current fan base, but in the end it will all work out. The Matrix fanatics who are complaining and freaking out about the announcement will still be the first ones in the line to purchase the special editions next spring.
I have been told by a retired Airforce serviceman that Interstate highways are used for emergency runways. As I have been told, after a certain stretch of an Interstate highway it is required that there be a 1 or 1.5 mile straightaway. The person who told me said the strips can be used by the military for emergency purposes. I am not sure how long the stretch is in between straightaways. I have not researched this, so please don't take my word to be 100% true. Although I have no reason to believe my source would have lied to me about it, it was a "matter of fact" comment when discussing roadways. If I think about the 4 hour drive I take to my parents house, all on I-95, I do recall a lot of short straightaways, but I could be wrong.
Has anyone else heard about this? Is it true? Urban ledgend?
FYI, he told me this before 9/11 so attribute this to a crazy military person ready for war.
They create a virus and release it on the Internet, then they sell you and anti-virus product to protect you against the virus they just released. That would be like Microsoft selling you and OS, then charging you for an upgrade to fix the security holes. Damn it, they arlready to that, I'm getting robbed!!!
My telephone line went dead about 6 months, but my DSL still works. After a few days of peace and quiet I decided I had no reason to call BellSouth to get it fixed.
Once a week we send our backups to a secure offsite location. We chose a site that was built specifically for the purpose of data storage. It has safety measures to account for temperature, humidity, fire, hurricane, etc. We can have tapes delivered to us within one hour in case of an emergency.
The iPhone has WiFi capabilities as well, although I'm not certain it's for voice only...

Can we get this discussion over with and just copy and paste all of the comments from the Unbox post from yesterday? http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/09/07/233223 9

Sorry, had to be said. Someone else probably said it first. Effers.
Let's use Google's super secret business strategy formula.
A = Google's "Do no evil" Philosophy
B = Wal-Mart
A + B = Evil
Nope, not gonna do it.

I simply wouldn't buy them.

You will forget about caffine(among other things), and soon won't be able to afford a cup of coffee.
Nope. You could send me bill if it was forced upon you, but you choose to view it yourself.

Yes, I agree with your above comment. Movie rentals are cheaper than purchasing. But the topic of the conversation was purchasing not renting.
If you can't beat them, join them.
