The people that talk about how console FPS's lack a mouse and keyboard should be looking at what matters about the game, like the actual gameplay and content, not the interface.
The interface directly affects the gameplay, though. How you play something is as much the gameplay as what's actually going on with the game. Analog sticks are simply counter-intuitive to FPS control -- at least to me -- since the way one moves the stick seems at odds with the concept of aiming a weapon. The analog control is nearly always far too sensitive to effectively aim something quickly and precisely enough, while a mouse can be as precise or quick as one needs.
As I said, though, this is my experience. I have had this same discussion with others, and they have concluded that I just suck at analog controllers....
If you are going to hire someone for a position in which presentation and looks are important (face-to-face sales, professional media -- e.g. TV news, etc) then I don't have a problem with you hiring on looks, dress, and so on -- because *that's what you're hiring*.
But when you hire someone that is going to sit hidden from the world in a cubicle all day, what is the point? Hire me for *what I can do*, not my appearance. Hire me for my technical skills, not how well I can "sell" myself, which is basically what the whole moronic resume and interview process is about.
I am not a salesman. Do not expect me to become one to get a job at your company.
Because if you don't like the way The Distro does things, you have... oh, what's it called, don't tell me... it's on the tip...
CHOICE?!?!?!?!!
*sigh* kids these days... *grumble*
(and hey, Slashdot, your "confirm you're not a script" is UNREADABLE. If I get this post out, it'll be amazing since I cannot figure out what a couple of the letters are thanks to the hard squiggles all over. How stupid...)
If you need to hire someone that won't be a crybaby when you make them work long hours for tons of money, hire me. Programming 100+ hours a week for good money is infinitely better than unemployment.
I'm using Wine 20040813 and what little I played seems to run well except for the sound being a little scratchy. English patch installer ran flawlessly as well.
To initiate a voice command, click the "Voice" button on the View toolbar, or press the Scroll Lock key. Then say the command, for example, "Opera reload". After issuing the command, let go of the button.
Me: Opera reload
Opera: Sorry, i did not understand *tries over and over, trying to be even more clear each time, with same results*
... does any voice recognition software really work? I've not gotten one to recognize me yet.
Some have the complete opposite view of you, though.. like me. LCDs hurt my eyes because of the motion blur and other intangible qualities (meaning I don't know why, it just does) making my eyes hurt after looking at an LCD for even a few minutes. CRTs are much better for me, though of course the refresh rate has to be sufficiently high.
I'm quite happy to hear this news, though. I feared that one day I would not be able to buy a CRT.
I keep thinking LCD screens might get better, but going down to a computer store/Best Buy/wherever and trying one out still gives me headaches, due to motion blurring. Most people say they don't even notice it, so I guess they're fine for everyone else. Just keep selling CRTs for me, please.
I saw this a few days back and gave it a try, but no such luck - the game refused to run at all, giving me an "unhandled exception" right away. Strange thing though, is that plain wine (20040615) ran the thing fine... well, if you call "fine" looking very washed out, textures missing/wrong, etc. However, everything was very bright and you could actually see where you're going without a flashlight!:)
My home page (front page, whatever) is very "smart" -- it makes absolutely no assumptions on where I want to browse to. It's very fast to load. It's simple, clean, and nonobtrusive.
Next year on FOX: 24 - The Lord Of The Rings version!
*cue a screen with a sundial, replacing the ticking digital clock*
Starring Keifer Sutherland as Bilbo and Dennis Haysbert as Gandalf... and Elisha Cuthbert as Arwen, who travels around Middle-Earth getting into all kind of trouble...
This is exactly what I don't get about people who argue that Linux gives too much choice. I pity these poor people that have to have choices made for them when they buy things at the store, clothes, a car, a house...
"Here, Mr. Doe, we've chosen your house, car, clothes, and entire life for you." It must be Bill Gates...:)

Or is that Firera?
You are aware that some folk like to put the day ahead of the month in dates, right?

I didn't try the OrgView player, though.
Even before this, I've been wondering if there is an alternative to the MS Help viewer (hh.exe) for CHM files, like xCHM in Linux?
I did get xCHM running under Cygwin but for some reason the images don't show up...

Don't forget Festivus!
I've already got my aluminum pole out...

45 seconds of commercials, 5 seconds of the FOX logo ("You're watching FOX Fone!"), and 10 seconds of actual content.
I'll pass, thanks.
No signal splitting. These are LCDs hooked up to one computer.
Hell, even the CRTs that are signal split are crappy-looking. I stay away from those displays when judging their worth.

Looks like that site now has a *lot* more ricer posts to put up. Thanks /. !

Amazing, that. Pepsi products can be on sale for $2/12 pack and I'll still buy Cokes at $4.
Pepsi's taste is just not to my liking. I'm sure Pepsi tastes fine to you (and others) but I can't stand it (and any other Pepsi product).

when's the "Extended Edition" coming out?
I was able to figure that one out pretty easily, actually.
Now the puzzle maze in Zork III, on the other hand...
