  1. The real question: on The Future of Science Revealed! · · Score: 5, Funny

The year is 2125, a mars outpost is posting their first research on the inter-net-net using the tachyon stream to transmit their data.

A well known website known as Slashdot.org posts a link to the research papers, all of the sudden, the entire universe collapses because the tachyon stream was overloaded.

That is the end of the universe, all of humanity blinked out of existence.

Slashdot.org, a useful forum of information, or the end of the world waiting to happen? You decide.

Photoshop in linux...? Could this be a bad thing? Once you have the end-all photo editing suite available in linux, what happens to all the great photoshop-esque programs that opensource devs have been woring on for years? It sort of sticks a knife in the gimp's throat, if you know what i mean. Now, being that it's running on WINE and not being ported to run on linux directly, this might not be the case.

All the lawsuits, et cetera certainly didn't help SCO get any farther with their stupid ways.

I think, if SCO really wants to redeem themselves, they should donate at least 5 million to the EFF, give away free linux laptops along with a Zaurus, and also give me a free back massage at a place of my choosing.

In closing, I'd just like to say that this entire post was a waste of time and that I don't think anyone will read it since it's close to #500

The internet is inherently insecure, and leaving the hands of the country to the internet could lead to a number of problems... I can see it now..

Huge office buildings in foreign "enemy" full of hackers skewing the voting system, or a number of different problems...

Can you IMAGINE the 'recount' scandals, et cetera, after the world's first vote with the internet as a voting measure?

Also, if you have someone's full info (Social, driver's license #, name, address, et cetera) how hard would it be to place your vote as someone else?

The whole thing just seems like a "bad idea"(tm) unless something was reworked to make it infaulable, which isn't really possible, anyways.

But the problem with DNA is that you need a sample to test against the subject's dna.. what use would this have to a criminal? High-tech duplicating and leaving at a crime scene? The cost alone would leave it to large orginazed crime stuff, and that still doesn't seem to me like it would be a problem.

    USA: Right-o, Mr. Red

China seems to be all talk and no substance. Personally, it seems as if they are just trying to tell the rest of the world "Look, we can do it too!" but never actually doing it.

And I don't like how so many people consider a 'space-race' a good thing... the USSR/USA 'space-race' did speed up technological developement in that department, sure.. but the goal was for the totally wrong reason, and it happened wayyy too fast.

We're going to the moon! ( 10 years later ) We're on the moon, hurray! ( 5 years later ) Uhh, we're on the moon.. I want to go home

It seems like soon as we beat the USSR and reached our goal, being that there was nothing worthwhile for the government to invest in (winning a space race = instant world respect and nationality rises considerably, i guess) so it just went stagnant.

The government should have a program that helps and directs corporations getting into space directly, and showing them how a profit could be made... that's where the real ticket is
