Its just a little spit and polish away from beign a real windows competitor. Or so it appears. Of course then you have to fight the lack of software available. blah blah adoption ect. but that stuff can wait. right now rc2 still crashes a lot more than any rc should. I ordered rc3 a couple of days ago, but it hasn't arived yet. Oh, and they are going to have to get a newer version of gcc on the thing. You can get some GPL software to work on it, but you have to know what you are doing ( ie editing the source code). So why not run linxu kde? zeta is still tons faster. and more polished gui.
That the majority of users are not using windows XP. The majority of windows users are still at the win 98 stage. Apple is instead trying to make it work well on the newest platform available. People who spend mor eto upgrade thier computer are more afluent and therefore are a better demographic to have running their software. Plus, it probely wouldn't look as "good" as it does on XP. Thats most likely the real reason.
At least, thats how I first read the headline. I understand that detail is important when giving a review, but often a reviewer feels so obligated to offer their opinion on the least important, inconsequential details that it drives me insane. I think SlashDot has taught me that only my opinion matters, and to never listen to anyone else's opinoin.
RTFA.
The point of the article is that mainstream desktop distros are not any better off than windows xp in terms of requirements. Therefore, they cannot be used to replace windows 98 instalations on corperate desktops and as a consequence linux is losing a major oppertunity. That is the only point the author was trying to make.
Sort of silly argument, but Intel and AMD haven't been sitting on their thumbs since 95. They also have improved the design of their processors. So I'd think that the advantages is probley the same. But considering how little the 970 has in common with the old powerpc chips, its anyones guess.
Be played a heck of an end game, but when you look back at Microsoft's antitrust lawsuit with the DOJ you'll find soem interesting things. Microsoft pointed to the existense of BE as evidence of competition in the OS field. At the time, Be was still focused on trying to win over apple fans. A be executive replied that it was a joke. Be didn't compete directly with Microsoft. Then after the trial Be launched a lawsuit against microsoft using the microsoft's own evidence against them.
In my opinion ( this makes it non trolling and non flamebait as I am entitled to my free opinion, right moderators?), Anime sucks. Stupid storylines, not great artwork, bad animation, etc.. Most of it is probely lost in the translation. The english speaking voice actors do a horrible job. You know we the geeks here liek to rag on those who are fans of such uncool things such as NSYNC or Limp Biskit, but really the blind stupidity surrounding anime is even worse.
Basically, your list is a bunch of things that you want without any logical flow. Where's the proof? Why do you think that destroying clear channel will make them more money? Why do you think they treat their customers like criminals (haven't been handcuffed, searched, threatened, chained to the wall, or even interigated, what exactly do they do to treat their customers like criminals?).
Control more important than money? Please, wake up. Do you think they care who is popular and who is not (as long as its one of their artists)? All they, like any other buisness, want to do is make money. Do you think they haven't done market surveys and analysis to determine the price point of their product to produce maximum revenue? You give them far too little credit. They are not stupid.
But all of the clones could use dos. That was the cool thing that made clones possible. a compaq couldn't be a clone of an ibm pc if it didn't run dos. If IBM had signed an exclusive deal with ms for dos, then they would have been screwed. So yes, Dos sucked, but it sucked equally across all of the clones. And that is what got us where we are today.
It doesn't say that it was cleverly designed to do a single purpose so that its as fast as modern processors. It says that its parallel tape drives were so fast that it can match modern processors. That is a ridiculous statement. Now, that doesn't mean that it isn't as fast as modern computers, but that it isn't because of the speed of the hardware.
Thats the cool thing about slashdot, you never know who you are talking to. If you don't understnad my post for what it is, I'm not going to explain it for you. Slashdot is a lot like an inkblot test. If you want to see evidence in every post of a grand conspiracy against microsoft, I suppose you probely can, but in doing so you reveal more about yourself than the you do about the author's original intent.
If this were a serious message board or mail list, I would have gone into depth seting up a position and supporting it with various pieces of evidence, but this is slashdot. I realy just don't care. But apprently I care enough to explain how I deal with slashdot after soemone replys with a terse acuatorial response. Ah the enigma that is Bill, Shooter of Bul.
Thats exactly what happens with microsoft. They release a patch for a potential sercurity problem, a smal percentage of users apply it, then virus writers read the security buliten that microsoft releases along with the patch and creates a virus that exploits the majority of the computers that haven't been patched. I've always know that it works that way, but I never realised that it can be used as a sales tactic. Ingenious.
Ursus Maximus is an odd name to have unless you are really into ancient greek and roman culture. I wouldn't be suprised if this "review" was written by the author himself. Happens on Amazon all the time.
Maybe we brew our coffee differently, but mine has at least as much as starbucks. I did go through withdral last january. Now, I limit myself to one quad shot latee a week ( mondays the only thing that makes it tolerable). Its much better when its a reserved treat.
Yeah, they can be a little intense. Ada was the first language they taught at my college. Avoided it like the plauge it is. It was incredible what students didn't know how to do after two years of ada. Good programers can program in ada while ada programers can... program in ada.
well you start a rant you have to stick to it I say.
I can't believe anyone can legitimately say that. Is it easier to move the mouse than it is to press a button on it? Its a heck of a lot easier on the hand s and wrists to use a wheel mouse than to drag the slider. mouse movement should always be kept at a minimum.
That is the stupidest head in the sand responce i have ever read on slashdot. Congratulations!
No one else in the entire world sells a zero button mouse. no one. no one sells a one button mouse. jsut like the hockey puck mouse, they are more concerned with a little bit more style, than functionality. Thats what they want to be, not a technology company that provides value to its customers, but a cool company that also sells technology. the mouse is such a small detail that speaks volumes about the company.
Goodnes knows I would If I were linus. Hmm. come to think of it how do I know I'm not linus? I shall require five pounds of herring and a finnish swimsuit model. Only then can I know for sure.
Well the jerk store called, and there out of you!
Well, you'd better tell your mom to switch perfumes.

Logical error != error in continutiy.
study logic, for an error in continuity is a logical error, but a logical error is not always an error in continuity.
I can think of a few things more annoying than someone doing something "wrong" in a fictional world.

To try to convince semi legitimate companies to not make the same mistake that real made. Companies can be convinced.
