What he means is that out of Java and C# he cares for neither of them and cares even less about what happens to them. That explains his little analogy:D
Thats exactly what I was thinking. One standard means less targets to... well... target. It also means, providing that the standard is open an un-patent encumbered (I know, big dreams...) more OS's can be more compatible with less work.
Just what I wanted to hear. Although, what I really wanted to hear is that DRM would dissapear of the face of the earth, but this is the next best thing.

You don't need to "Run" KDE to get Koffice to work. You just need the KDE Base libraries and the Qt libraries to get it going. You don't have to run it as your desktop environment.
There is a good reason why Evo is being included -- having the contact information centralized and standard in every Gnome installation means that other Gnome applications can use that data.
Hi, first off I am an enlightenment user but I use KDE apps quite a lot. Now that thats out of the way...
Instead of hardcoding these "information sharing interfaces" between concrete classes, why not create an interface, or a set of criteria that any program may implement, meaning you can include a very basic pim suite in gnome, but users can use evolution if they so wish. This means that people don't run into the "mosquito with nuclear missile" problem and not having to use a complicated application to suit their simple needs.
If this "interface" is standardized, people will have the choice to use whatever application (contacts, calander, im client) they wish but the intergration is still the same. KDE has started to do this with its PIM IM client intergration, as long as an IM client implements a certain interface (DCOP interface IIRC), the programs can intergrate together and share data. So you may use KDE Contacts with GAIM if you felt so inclined.
Lets face it, the Linux desktop is not going to magically unite, so programs must be written to be modular and compatible.
x86 Linux, x86 Solaris, x86 BSD, Sparc Solaris, MacOS, x86 Windows, Symbian OS (mobile phones), Palm Pilots (Superwaba runs on mine!)... J2ME also runs on smartcards, pagers, set-top boxes.
Also, please note this CPU that executes Java bytecode as it's instruction language.
It sure is a pain having to read that garbage isn't it.
Pointing out that the KDE project is full of ignorant, stupid hype-mongers who don't know a debugger from a chisel yet still feel qualfied to comment on technical issues, is a valuable job.
Thats an interesting point of view. More importantly it proves the fact that you are just a troll bent on stirring things up, so I won't reply to any more of your posts. Also, I guess you wouldn't want people finding out about brilliant projects such as this. Pretty good for a bunch of developers that don't know what a debugger is.
And be sure, if you had the courage to post as a logged in user you would be on my foe list for sure. I've read almost half a dozen AC posts along the same lines. Also, do not write me off as a KDE fanboy, I am an enlightenment user and use a mix of GTK/GNOME Qt/KDE apps.
Please, just stfu now. I can tell you now why we have the "Desktop Divide" between KDE and GNOME. It's morons like you man.
The KDE project has it's share of followers like you as well, but your all the same. The only reason the desktop wars rage on is because you open your mouth with your opinion that you think everyone wants to hear.
Yes GNOME has been working on similar projects, heck it was even mentioned on Slashdot front page a while ago you idiot. KDE is getting a lot press at the moment because of aKadamy and the 3.3 release so why don't you shut up and let KDE have it's moment.
Why not Linux? Most 64-bit ready OS's these days are Linux (SUSE 9.1, FC2, Gentoo) or Unix-ey (MacOS X).
So it's pretty much tough shit for you then. Microsoft has abandoned you, their 64-bit OS will not be out until late 2005 (but you can have their crummy beta for free). Bahahahaha.
Recently installed FireFox and I will NEVER use IE again unless the page requires the active X crap. I love everything about Firefox, and as more extensions become available, I love that I can make it work EXACTLY how I want it to work.
Now, imagine that kind of power and flexability in your entire operating system, not just your browser. Do yourself a flavour and grab a copy of SUSE 10.0 when it comes out:)
I would love to see an extension that spellchecked text boxes in online forms though...
Konqueror in KDE's suite of programs accomplishes this. It's very slick. It's Linux only but SUSE comes default with it.
Novell is combining Ximian Desktop 2 with SUSE linux (8.2 i think) to create "Novel Linux Desktop 1.0". This is looking to be their enterprise desktop product as Ximian Desktop is very easy to use and quite nice.
This is coming from a long-time KDE fanboy (but not going anywhere:) so listen to what I say!
The guy who came to speak at our LUG told us that the SUSE Personal/Pro distros will keep going to serve as a testing ground for their server software.
Konqueror has "Open in background tab" which will open the page clicked on (I use my middle button for it) in a new tab but keep the current tab active. So you just need to close the tab and you're loaded page is there waiting.

are you able to tell us a little more about this?
What plugins did you use etc...
Thanks,

Here's what you do:
Dump your lame window manager and get one that has "Remember" support.
Get a session manager (GNOME and KDE have one, but my guess is your not using either) like rox-session.
Problem solved.

errr, isn't that what references are for? When a guy refers a book to someone else he shouldn't get a reference for it? Ok....
And you should be deploying pre-1.0 software in an enterprise environment?
Here's your sign.
Easy, you can just create more TLD's.
Or, become a company that just gives subdomains (no point in everyone having a secondry level domain).
i.e. james.rememberme.com
bob.accessmybox.net
etc..
Just thought you should know:

Yes, yes, +5 funny.
The point is that this sort of thing has existed in OSS IDE's (look at eclipse, it does this very thing) for a fair amount of time.
The only thing is, in eclipse when the list gets updated when you save the files (eclipse compiles each file on the fly).
Would bring a new meaning to the term "Rain-fade" i imagine...
