I thought the most interesting aspect of this was hackers attacking these immoral corperations.
If hackers could destroy the RIAA botnets that would be increadible... hardly immoral and a better solution than just boycotting (Though that's what I intend).
If it was under the BSD liscence they could make it easy to use and sell it.
Pear PC is not the easiest peice of software, and cherryOS is supposed to eventually remove the need for another operating system (by coming packaged with linux I imagine).
Those NDA's were set up so you couldn't sell the info to another company. Publishing it for everyone is a little diffrent and should be treated as such.
Though firint employees who do this kind of thing is AGAIN not something the government should be getting involved with!
How the hell is the American government saying it should get involved in stuff like this and the RIAA trials and not getting involved with American companies using child labour.
America seems perilously close to an ultra conservative free for all state while still making terrible decisions about responsability... I think we may be witnessing the birth of a new unfeasable and monstorous political system... I dub thee CareWhenIt'sInOurInterestship.
One standard was moving to mpeg 4 (Some strange version though) and the other was staying with mpeg 2.
With Codec's like XVID you can get a REALLY high quality rip on a 650 meg CD.
Personally I'd like to see mpeg 4 on either format.
There is a 200 Gig DVD coming down the pipe anyway.
Converting movies to mpeg 2 has always been difficult, I'd like to see more power in future DVD players (Geode for example) which could lead to the adoption of recordable DVD's in the living room.
Phillips already released a re-writable DVD burner in the living room but it should become standard.
I'm surprised people moved away from VHS when they could record 16 hours of SLP to DVD where they can't record at all.
Linux coders work independantly, a lot of them don't care about software patents. Why? Because they have no incentive to, the truth is in software there is often a "best way"tm to do something and if it gets patented they'll probably trample on it.
SCO sent out a precedent, a company with massive software patents, access to the full source code, and a history as one of the founding forces behind Linux and it couldn't win!
Further Linux stood up to millions upon millions in legal fees thanks to the EFF and others.
Future cases will have to be very convincing to even GO INTO court, no scare tactics will cause companies to shell out for linux licences, and the absurdity of trying to sue software created for society was repudiated and ridiculed.
No books (Damn textbooks), no radio, No TV, no CD's, No DVD's.
Devices: Tungsten E - 32 megs of books, is A LOT OF BOOKS. One charge = about one read book, I get a lot of sci-fi short stories, a bunch of classics, the bible (I can look up quotes with find), william gibson (Though I own several copies I still enjoy the ebooks more). It's backlit for when I go out to smoke, or am lost at night:P
Computer, DVD Burner for backups. I can encode with XVID from DVD when I want to. 240 gig SATA raid.
Nomad Jukebox 3: In 1998 the iPod wasn't out yet (or it was only 10 Gigs) anyway it wasn't an option (And I still don't like it) This thing is 20 gigs. Fits in my pocket and it's TOUGH I took it for 6 months through asia. Lots of diffrent power sections, diffrent operating systems, it's got 24 hrs battery life. Line in and Line out optical and analogue. It's got all my music. My computer also has it all.
A modded Xbox, now this is key, after I finish ripping a movie or Downloading it I can transfer it over the network and leave it on the Xbox or play it directly from my computer, I usually keep a few music vids and a movie on there just in case someone is curious and I don't have the ethernet plugged in. It plays DVD's which is useful since I still have about 200 Chinese Korean and Japanese movies I bought in Beijing when I was over there (Haggle you CAN get them for 75c it just takes patience). So I guess I'm not DVD free, and I have a stack of Operating Systems on my desk on DVD mandrake,Suse,Redhat etc.
Um you can use it as a DVD player which there aren't any restrictions in the EULA about doing. You can use it to put your CD on the XBOX and use the music to play in game.
Um you can backup your saved games a feature the Xbox lacks thanks to HD.
I've done all these.
And I can watch a documentary from my computer upstairs on my TV it's teh sw33t!
That being said I'm gonna look at PS3... prolly easier to mod, and will have backup compatibility with two systems I don't own.
Most people started switching away with the intrusive pop-ups.
Sites like IsoHunt have some features that are supported in some clients and not in others like multiple trackers with backups so if the main tracker goes down it will switch over.
He's not trying to implement any sort of eXeem crapfest at least.
I'm a bit confused about the bulk packets thing.
Yea there are people who will want to use over their neighbors wifi and will need some stronger restrictions (when it spikes to 300 down neighbors internet goes kablooie) but I'm not sure that making it mandatory is the best solution.
More! But Just until distribution costs come down (-_o)
Wikipedia might offer some open source free gambling software or discuss the problems associated with gambling like addiction.
Wouldn't it be funny if patent refrencing software was patented... hahahhahahaha... oh wait...
Good lord I'm evil.
The first device to die was the FAX most faxes are spammed non-stop forever.

Actually there are some very serious problems with current I.P. laws...
There are lots of places with a little knowledge could really change everything for them.
You don't put a price on the betovens who never got to listen to him etc.
It's an ecconomic problem, you don't die, you don't go to jail you get sued.
But you should keep trading without hiding because they are wrong and if we hide no one will ever understand that.

I'm using the classic system, how many songs to the midi?
I'm going to regret this but irc.nullus.net
I've gone almost totally digital.
:P

Not to mention Gui's and File systems.

To test whether wikipedia is being moron democratized I looked up the physics section checking for newtonian vs Relativity based theories.
Both are expressed, Netonian is further listed as the historical view.
So all the old people who grew up before Einstein was proven right haven't broken that one at least.
Wikipedia doesn't seem concerned by becoming cumbersome if it can express 2 valid and posible viewpoints.
Some countries have fair Use?
Whuuaaaa? Or to disuade American ecconomic tampering in the region?
Most american's think their boss has more power than their government or god. I'm pretty sure that everyone else doesn't want an American boss.
Ironically this is just what they are accusing apple of :P
My feeling as a Canadian who's father is a lawyer is that Canada does have very strict laws concerning privacy but almost never enforces them.
Things like wiretaps and recording conversations can be done with a government order but in the States they are done without court approval.
Basically if they think you're bad you're in worse trouble up here, but until they have some evidence you ARE bad you have a lot more freedom.
I can't even combine two internet connections on my machine.
Or give them tasks DESPITE having diffrent IP's on my usb wifi device, and 2 nics!
What's up with that?
802.11i holmes???... you treading on my turf.
Um those are called spam bots.
I hope you have good protection against comment spam.
Other than katamari Damancy name another game where both your thumbs are on the sticks?
