    ZZT is badass:

Although ZZT's graphics were obsolete before it was even created, ZZT managed to become fairly popular because of its integration of a simple but effective object-oriented scripting language known as ZZT-oop. At the time this was groundbreaking as most functionality in prior games had been hard coded. The language allowed extensibility that no other game was able to provide, and allowed a large degree of community involvement that extended far beyond simply creating level terrain with the excellent in-built editor but involved writing programs to make the game run.

There was an ask slashdot last year about getting kids into programming, wish I had remembered this game, its one of the things that got me into C++ and its OOP goodness.

Thats the coolest thing about Wikipedia and tabbed browsing. I can start at Ascii Art and end up on Alberto Lleras Camargo in a few clicks. Maybe I should make a plan to read all of Wikipedia and get a story on slashdot like that Bratanica guy.

I miss hanging out at airports, its the only place I've ever seen a teenager huddled over a laptop with a penguin sticker on it, under a payphone with an acustic coupler connected to a PCMCIA modem (this was '1997).

No I dont have a boarding pass, no I've got no luggage, passport, or destination, i just want to get through security like everyone else and munch on some cookies and coffee. Is it going to kill you that I spend my money at the airport? Fuck it, frisk me, if I'm not carying a bomb I should be allowed to get through security just like everyone else holding a ticket.

PS: I'm tired of having to say goodbye to loved ones before heading off on a trip at the curb outside because they cant wait for my plane to board in the terminal.

You know that scene in THE movie where the guy realises he loves the girl and never had the guts to tell her, and now shes at the airport waiting to board a plane to hong kong, never to see her again. And he races down the freeway at 100 MPH+ speeds just to get to the terminal and kiss her and proclaim his love? Not gonna happen.

I understand Microsoft, but Dell and their cable providers? That's like blaming your car manufacturer and the department of transportation when your car gets broken into.

I tend to lean towards 'its not the user's fault', however after admin'ing for a few years and answering the same questions by the same people over and over my opinion has become a bit cynical.

Still, Microsoft could make a secure OS and browser, and that would help, but nothing is going to prevent joe sixpack from downloading some spyware ridden P2P app and bonzi buddy, except for that DRM encrusted Trusted Computing thing.

It will look nice at first to the clueless users like the guy in this article, but hopefully it wont be too late before everyone realizes what a mistake they made. Actually, I don't think its going to make it very far, most admins will fight it and if it doesn't make it into the businesses it wont make it to mainstream.

My dad was a war photographer in Korea. He had some level of clearance and once was working at a base on the coast of Florida photographing experimental weapons. He was walking around the facility and started talking to a major. The major was complaining about the fishing boats close off the coast, saying that they were known communist spies doing surveillance of the bases secret operations. The nature of the operations made them need to be outside and there was not much they could do about keeping the spies from photographing their operations from the fishing boats.

My dad suggested that they build a pipeline around the base and pump extremely hot water through it. The steam would keep the spies from getting clear photographs of the bases operations.

Ever been to the airport and notice that distortion coming off the top of the jets in the summer? The waviness is caused by the steam and heat coming from the plane. This is the basis for the pipeline.

The major had the pipeline constructed and shortly after the fishing boats stopped snooping around the base. Think of it as a photographic firewall...

Fill up a card, eject it and pop it in the ipod, it should sense the card and automatically download, transmit and format while your poping in another blank card.

the ipod with CF adapter and Wifi adapter would be plenty small enough to keep in your pocket and has its own battery. keeps drain off camera battery and lightens camera. also if wifi is unavailable the ipod just keeps the pics on HDD. with the wifi in camera option your SOL if theres no access point, not to mention bandwidth concerns with 20MB raw, or like other poster said, processed jpegs
