Gentoo also provides a lot of over-yappy fanboys. If it's so good, people will use it without you all going off about it whenever someone says "Linux" as if they had trash talked your momma or your mac. But I think the amount of fanboyism and the Gentoo-only mentality might speak to all of your confidence in that quality.
Personally I run Slackware and I encourage you all not to since if it came anywhere near becoming the most popular Linux distribution I would lose this awesome feeling of being elite.
So when are they going to add the scroll wheel to the stock mac mouse? They can even make it so that it doesn't click so as not to confuse 48-year-olds.
The problem isn't so much that you can't use a multi-button mouse but rather that the programs tend not to do anything useful with the extra buttons once you have them. Look at Photoshop for a really good example of this as the right-button still doesn't do anything particularly useful in the Windows version, which is a side effect of the Mac heritage.
And there really is no excuse for this as software such as Alias's Maya not only work fine with a 3 button mouse, but require it.
But nice mac trolling there, buddy. Good to see that/. is still free for differing opinions as long as they all agree with Apple's design decisions.
Funny how if you replace "Linux" in that with "Mac" and "Apple" with anything else (ie, Linux, Windows, BSD, Toaster Oven) you'd get modded like +5 insightful. I thought/. was supposed to be all super biased in favour of Linux.
Not that I read it extensively, but in quickly glancing over the Apple hardware warranty I didn't see anything about voiding your warranty from opening the case. Though they do claim that the warranty does not cover third party parts or non-Apple certified service providers.
You can read their warranty information for new hardware (excluding iPod and iSight) here and Apple's warranty page is here.
Nice try at flamebait. Unfortunately for you (who there is obviously something wrong with) you don't seem to be able to read. I never make claims that you can't "get work done" on any system. It's all about work flow. It's the same argument I make against 3DS Max, that it's clunkier and more annoying to use than it has to be.
But feel free to continue trying to flamebait if it makes you feel better about paying all that money for your mac. I'm sure it makes you feel very superior.
By best written you mean boring and annoying, right? And note to mods, trolling and having poor opinions of your fanboy hobbies are two different things.
I liked Firefly a lot. But I think it's completely laughable to call it scifi. It wasn't designed or implemented as a science fiction show and just because it takes place in the future and in space hardly makes it so.
Though it definitely did innovate by not sucking, something that can't really be said for most space-based pseudo-scifi shows lately.
As an animator I can safely say that Linux is the most productive operating system (it's not the computer, moron) that I have ever used. I think the main reason you don't find lots of people in those fields using Linux is because they are either a) stupid (lots of artists are not so very bright), b) told how big and bad and scary it is, or c) there is a particular piece of software or niche category of software that is not available.
The first isn't really going to be able to be solved. Just look how many "artists" can barely run their macs which are supposed to be so "user friendly" though I have never found them so.
The second is fixed by dingbats like you keeping your holes shut when you're too ignorant to talk from experience.
And the third will get there sooner or later, though there really is very little with any market size that isn't available.
If the software is available (which for the vast majority of people who aren't playing games, it is), Linux beats both mac and windows for productivity by huge margins.
Though feel free to flame and troll about how much Linux sucks and has no software, it's just so precious when you windows and mac kids get all defensive.
I was just saying it's something we can all enjoy. Though I was thinking more along the lines of the now-defunct Slackintosh project.
Except maybe the hardcore windows fanboys.

Yeah, well that's just because no one will help make my game: Early American Steam Shovel Tycoon.

How is this news?
Come on kids, we can do better than this.
I can download OSX minus the GUI? Hook me up, brother!
You usually don't get away with doing that outside of the internet either. So other than the possible threat of doing so I don't see the difference.
They'll probably just follow the Sony school of naming and call it XBox 2.
Could buy one of these.
Hey, at least the oceans would shrink leaving plenty of room for all the run off from melting ice caps!
The proper term is fascism, friends.
Because you wouldn't want someone to open it? That seems pretty obvious to me. Though I wouldn't know if that applies in this case.
You can read their warranty information for new hardware (excluding iPod and iSight) here and Apple's warranty page is here.
Yeah, you and I might be. But that doesn't apply to corporations. They only get the sunny side of personhood.

Yeah, unfortunately they left deep space nine and voyager on for YEARS.

Which is why oral sex should be used as a better example. Though I guess two women do still have fingers and toes...
How's that any different than the current /.? You guys going to just not let the mac kids talk anymore so it'll be 100% microsoft fanbois?
Or did you need to look up that guy who was offering to send people dictionaries?
