I don't care if page loads faster if it doesn' show correctly. I bet lynx can load it faster than IE, but that doesn't make it the best browser.

Last time I checked HTML was designed to preserve content but does not force rendering on browser. So you can for example render HTML on text-to-speach machines. Lynx is a perfect example here.

i am going to receive flak from slashdot in general, but here goes: there is actually material on the internet that even the most socially liberal, libertarian-minded society would find objectionable, and has every right AND duty to block

I have never accidentaly found child pornography when browsing the net. I never looked for it but I assume if you really want one you can find it. It's just you can't easily stumble upon it. That means blocking such site is not required to protect people from accidentaly viewing such materials.

On the other hand, if someone is looking for child porn than he will not look on WWW but probably through torrents or usenet. Which means blocking publicly accessible web pages has no merit at all.

Not America but private companies. If you start using tax money to clean up space those companies will stop care at all about polluting space with debris.

If not, then the group whose sat is taken out by a dead sat or by their junk MAY turn around and sue. My guess is that a law suit will start on either this one, or the next collision.

Problem is there are (almost) no laws in space so it's rather hard to sue anyone.
