    if we drop a boatload of cash into a bunch of Solaris boxes, and MSFT buys up and dissolves Sun tomorrow, then what?
    And what about all those users who are buying Microsoft products ? What happen if Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates die in a plane crash the day where Microsoft is punished in court and must stop all selling activities ?

    IMHO, you are wrong.

    If the Fraunhoffer institute decides that every MP3 decoder must buy a very expensive lisense, you will not be able to listen legally to your music for free.
    Dont say "it will never happen !". It CAN happen.. Look at the Movable Type story.

    It's why MP3 codec is not available in the default Fedora system.

    If you convert all your music to Ogg Vorbis (like I do and there's more and more Ogg Vorbis compatible player), you can be sure that in 100 years you will be able to play your music legally for free !

    It seems that a lot of people aren't aware of the difference between a "Standard" and a "De facto standard"... There's a huge difference...

    Then switch to Linux..

    Well, I think it's feasible to have in Gimp the features you want.

    Is there somes really big differences between The Gimp and Photoshop that you can't ever think about switching to Gimp ? (I don't talk about the interface, just about features)

    Well, with $15k, you can hire some opensource developpers and start your own image editor (by forking the Gimp).

    Or, better, you hire somes developpers to work on Gimp.

    Is it really more expensive to do that ?

    I don't like programming in Java, but having a free Java (as in speech) would be really great !

    Think about how it can be easy to include Java in a Linux Distro.

    If Java becomes free, I can imagine a lot of thing. Why not bindings with GTK for example ?

    1) my card is not working perfectly : I cannot change the volume 2) somes applications use ALSA and crash with OSS (totem for example)

    I've seen a lot of Intel8x0 fixes in the changelog.

    Am I the only one with a Nforce2/Intel8x0 soundcar who cannot change the volume and must use OSS emulation for all applications since direct alsa doesn't work ? (2.6.3 kernel)

    Does the 2.6.5 fix those problems (I don't understand fully the changelog).

    Well, I prefer spending my time to develop applications using gstreamer and feeding the gstreamer's bugzilla.

    I've seen some mail about helix on the gstreamer and on the matroska dev list.

    It's very interesting, because the only thing that helix folks can say is : "Helix is really better because we have the best codec ever made : RV9. And if you join Helix, you can build a player that play RV9 file. If you don't join Helix, your player will suxx because it will not be able to play proprietary encoded RV9 videos and RV9 is the best codec that everybody will be using."

    I maybe wrong because my english is not perfect. I hope to be wrong... If not, please forget helix. it's disgusting...
