The parent poster was right.
'MAC' is an acronym for, among other things, "Media Access Control" or "Message Authentication Code".
'Mac' is an abbreviation for Macintosh, a brand of computers made by Apple Computer Inc.
If you consider the text of the Torah to be the body of a message being transmitted, then would not an included digital fingerprint or series of microperforations be additional data included in a header (in this case, for authentication purposes)? I know that a digital fingerprint or a series of microperforations are not precisely the same thing as adding more Hebrew characters to the body text of the Torah; but is it not conceptually possible to represent the pattern of data included in the fingerprint or the perforations within the same Unicode scheme as Hebrew characters are represented? Thus in effect would these unique authentication identifiers actually transgress the rule against adding more characters?
If natural selection really works(and I think it does) then people with moral misgivings about this technology will refuse to accept medical help from stem cells and will have a higher mortality rate than godless heathens.
Good point.
This was brought up by science-fiction author Cory Doctorow in his novel Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom (available online for free download).
In this story there exists a process for individuals to back up their memories at publicly available terminals and then to restore themselves from back-up into a cloned body at a later date (for instance in the case of accidental death or severe inury). It is mentioned that anyone who thought the idea of restoring from back-up was [immoral/evil/disgusting] refused to do it and all died out, while everyone else went on to their second, third, etc adult-hoods.
Games makers - All the game makers have to do is add an opening scene where that kid that spray painted those cars gets caned. No matter what the games was about it would be socially acceptable in any Asian country.
Is this similar to how people who make stereotyped assumptions about other cultures are socially acceptable in any American country? Maybe all our games should open with scenes of non-violent drug offenders getting the electric chair.
Except, now, that I have told them that they will either have to go out and purchase new computers (with new Windows licenses), or purchase Windows licenses (or be pwned by script kiddies), or switch to Linux.
...
Of course, the snobs in the family are considering a move to OS X (probably cause I was showing off my newish 12" powerbook), but thats another story.
So the only options you gave your family were to use a legal copy of windows or to use linux... while you are showing off your powerbook. But when your family members want to switch to OS X too, they are "snobs"?
If you want to be environmentally friendly, why not build a wood house and keep it for 50 years?
Well, you could make one of these houses out of recycled cardboard, removing the need to chop down even more trees. When the house gets old/decrepit, you could strike it and recycle it, and build a new one from recycled cardboard. When a wood house passes its lifespan, you have to chop down more trees to build a second house.
I am aware of Goedel's Incompleteness Theorem. But what you have described does not follow from my argument. I claimed that the increased level of security in OS X was due to more adequate security measures, instead of security through obscurity. However, this does not imply that OS X is entirely without flaws. It just implies that Apple does a better job of dealing with the flaws they have found.
Many people look for Windows exploits and find them, but don't let the world know. They write virii and worms instead, which cost users a lot of money and wasted time. It is possible that discovered flaws are also exploited for OS X, but they have noticeably less repercussions than those for Windows, or are reported and patched in a reasonable timeframe.
The idea of having "bug free software" is indeed an illusion. However just because a greater number of bugs are found in Windows does this necessarily entail that there are unfound bugs in OS X? These are independent probabilities, so please check your QED at the door and analyze your own argument in greater depth.
That would lead me to the assumption that if its the least used then people wont bother writing virii and bother trying to hack it.
Am I wrong to think this?
Yes, one of the first things taught in many network security classes is that security through obscurity is not reliable. The implication here is that Mac OS X is more secure because of the security measures in the OS, not because no one has bothered to look for or exploit flaws.
What?? I thought the Libertarians were the Guns-And-Dope Party!?
No the Guns and Dope Party would never be caught hanging around any group that said they had the "right way" of running your life (or the "right person" to do it for you, for example, Badnarik).
If you feel up to the challenge of self-government, just write your own name in for President. Besides, I doubt the Libertarians are ready to talk about ostriches.
This sounds like the software "Earth" in Stephenson's Snow Crash, that let the user do a virtual fly-by of composite satellite photos, as well as scale closer and closer to a particular geographic location, getting more detailed maps.
A contract is a contract, and Apple violated their's. Yeh, it was a contract that was stupid as heck in the first place, but a contract none-the-less.
Are you referring to the 17th Rule of Acquisition: "A contract is a contract is a contract - but only between Ferengi"?
If so, then I don't think Apple Computers has anything to worry about because Apple Computers and Apple Music are not the same species of corporation.
How much longer will people vote for politicians who let corporations shit all over consumers in the name of profit?
In a perfect world our votes would not be tabulated by non-voter-verifiable voting machines with backdoors, whose manufacturing companies donate money to those same politicians.

Max Cohen would be ashamed.
I'm sorry our run-in with those aquatic aliens made you urinate in your suit, but you are just going to have to suck it up.
Repeat after me: "Correlation does not imply causality."

Oh wait... that's only the US.
When this appeared on the web a few years ago, wasn't it shown to be a viral marketing campaign for a movie?
How long until one crew member goes crazy and eats the other one?
Ah, but can you recycle an overpass?
Johnny #5 is alive!

The irony being that Bungie, the makers of Halo, were previously a Mac-only development group. (Halo is the 4th game in the Marathon fps series.)
Microsoft bought them up, licensed Halo for the X-Box, and half-assedly requested a port to the Mac at the last moment.
This sounds like a good application for swarm intelligence.
When I first read the headline I thought it said "Do you thrive under crack or pressure".
Someone please mod parent up. These panoramas are amazing.
Any magic that is indistinguishable from technology is insufficiently advanced.
i read this post... what makes this "Interesting"? not much in the way of details...
